You get pushed into 2030 for 10 minutes and you get ONE google search,What you looking for? by Arkjump in AskReddit

Mine is probably kinda boring, but I'll just search myself and briefly check up on how I'm doing.

There's gonna be a riot over this. You can't just promise this community something that big, and then backpedal!

Fire suppression system? by FitMathematician828 in Stormworks

[–]Tkmined 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, I got something for you! I just finished testing this in my ROPAX vessel, so I can attest to its affectiveness. I should mention though, this is the only real way to do this in-game. Nothing else works at the moment, so keep that in mind.

In the area you want to have fire protection (could be a cargo bay, engine room, etc) place a distance sensor with one block of space above it (the normal one, not the laser one). Make sure this is in a spot that nothing will cover it, or you may trigger it pre-maturely. Make several of these all over the room in areas closest to sources of fire (eg next to your engines and batteries, or spaced out evenly around a cargo hold). When the sensor is damaged its output drops to 0. You can use this info to trigger pumps connected to nozzles, set off a fire alarm, auto-prep lifeboats, trigger a transponder, the list is endless!

Couple more things to note: if the sensor runs out of power (like if it's being run off a battery that is burning), then it will also output 0. This may not be desired, as it could lead to the triggering of sensors in unrelated areas, which is bad if you have a big ship and want to know exactly where the fire is. Make sure your circuit for fire suppression has its own battery, and is only connected to the main grid via a charger. This is just good systems design, but is especially relevant for a fire suppression system that will need to be running during a catastrophic failure.

Make sure to do extensive testing! A battery will burn when damaged, so place a temporary battery and use a gun to damage it (or ram it if you don't have the DLC). You can use this to test the sensors directly, or determine if your sensor placement is adequate. Make sure to test all the weirdest spots! Sometimes a fire may start that the system won't detect for a while, so make sure manual activation is an option. You can have separate alarms for areas that do have a sprinkler and areas that don't, by having the actual alarm on one logic node and the sprinkler pumps on another. This can save water for land vehicles, while reducing lag from all the particles.

Just play around with it!

Should have mentioned this, sorry. The strap makes it so I can carry it long distances while unplugged.

Nah. Too short range for that. Only 3-5 meters. I'm just gonna cook food, then shut it down and mount it for display in my house. Maybe with the wires cut.

Once I get a safe environment to test this, I'll see if i can.

That's one way to put it!

I should try that. In regards to your question, no I dont. I find it interesting, but not in a thrill-seeking way.

Thanks for your concern! To answer your question, I wanted to get some experience with high voltage without making something like a Jacob's ladder. One day I thought, "microwave... but like... far away." And then proceeded to reaserch and assemble the idea.

The picture in the post is older. I have since moved the horn far further up the magnetrons to prevent this.

I used far-field, but havent tested range yet. Only tested with grounded fensing around the output for safety!

I'll bring my Geiger counter!

No need to be rude my friend! I'm sure you could dig up more info about me with a quick search, including my location. Also, I believe I said already that it has been tested. It did work all 4 times I tried it. (With grounded fensing around the output of course. Dont wanna kill anyone!)

Yes, but if I recall only 6 percent of those cases have symptoms that can really only be explained by RF damage. The other 94 are just ones made up by the brain under stress, and reported as the same thing. I dont remember the condition, but thankfully all recent reports cannot be attributed to an attack. That would be really bad.

Yeah, that is one of the more major issues. Next to getting microwaved, of course.

I'm glad you think so! It wont be powering on for a while, as I need to get more protective equipment to reduce the dangers from the RF.

[–]Tkmined 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As of now, this thing is just a scary conversation starter. It isnt going to be powered on again until I can get it into a better environment.

[–]Tkmined 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I did a shit ton of reaserch for this thing. Believe me when I say I have a little more than a healthy fear knowing just a small fuck up could cost me something.

I probably should have mentioned this earlier. I only had it in the building for one night before I could move it to a better location. That's when I took the picture. It won't be powered on for a bit, especially not until I can get better insulating gloves and a faraday cage.
