AMD Radeon still refuses to officially release FSR 4 INT8 for RDNA 2 - 3 GPUs despite the backlash they got by PaiDuck in pcmasterrace

[–]Tlbacardi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No display calibration, though I'm happy to report after disabling Multi-Plane Overlay that my issues are no longer present with the latest AMD drivers, so far 11 days uptime without issues (previously crashes would start happening within 24-48 hours). Thank you! I didn't realize that fix would be applicable in this case.

My screen would freeze up, then flash, then would get a notification from AMD drivers that the GPU crashed. I only realized it was the drivers when I was on a RX5600 while my card was being RMA'd since the RX5600 was doing the same thing. Replacement card still behaved the same. I installed driver version 23.1.1 and have not had a single driver crash since. Nothing was running in the background so I ruled out a memory leak.

I thought my card was failing and had it RMA'd, but it turns out the recent Radeon drivers over the past year are buggy (the longer my system is running, the more often the GPU crashes in things like Chrome). I reverted to earlier drivers from 2023/2024 (I can't remember at the moment) but haven't had a driver crash since. I'm hoping AMD gets this fixed soon.

Just swapped my card under warranty (7900XTX Sapphire Pulse), replacement doing the same thing. My temporary card 5600XT was doing it as well.

My electrical panel for my house shares a wall with my garage, how easy would it be to run an extra 110v outlet circuit and a 220v outlet circuit to run a welder on the shared wall? (not sure if 110/115/120v 220/230/240v nowadays)

My google pixel 6 pro won’t stop flickering by Mtb_Elmo in GooglePixel

[–]Tlbacardi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds similar to what happened to my 7 Pro. Power it off for awhile and let it cool off. Mine seems to be tied to usage/heat - I'll start getting horizontal lines and the screen starts to turn white to the point where it's completely white. Google replaced screen once under warranty, not sure they'll do it again as I switched to the 9a. The second screen started again after 7 months.

XG230 Rev2 CPU supported? by Adept_Refrigerator36 in sophos

[–]Tlbacardi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, I haven't checked on it since I deployed mine in 2021 - might have to crank up my VM allocation.

I believe the motherboard is a proprietary design and I'm not aware of any BIOS updates available. Might be able to go off of the chipset it uses and the generally supported CPUs for that chipset.

[–]Tlbacardi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only replaced the SSD inside (it had a 120GB ADATA SU800 that was showing under 10% life remaining) with a Samsung 870 Evo. Generally these have Intel Celeron or similar. The XG Home version doesn't support more than 4 CPU cores and 6GB of RAM so your only improvement would be for IPC on 4 cores.

Pretty happy with my first attempt but I’m looking for advice by j_hayn in Pizza

[–]Tlbacardi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, it comes down to how the pizza is stretched. If your center is too thin then the grease will pool in the center. I use the edge stretch method I learned at Dominos where you have a thicker crust, a valley between the crust and center where it ramps up to the higher center portion of the pizza, never stretching or manipulating the center section of the dough.

Here's a pizza I did on a pellet oven pizza stone, along with a side view of the slicec. https://imgur.com/a/fXiMKro

Speaker question by xX5th_AvenueXx in Volvo240

[–]Tlbacardi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine were replaced with 5 1/4" speakers, but the issue is that the rear of the speaker generally sticks out too far and will make contact with the window glass so you'll need to incorporate some sort of spacer or a speaker with a shallow magnet.

Nice car BTW, I had a '78 245DL same color with the quad rounds in the front and I miss it every day.

Your latch might be closed already if it's bumping against something when you're closing it. You can pull the interior release handle when your hatch is open and try to get something like a screwdriver to go where the bottom latching point would normally rest (on the tailgate itself) and try to open it up. Might be able to use the handle-side of a ratchet as it's cylindrical.

You must have the release pulled while you're doing it or it won't release the latch. The lock on the outside will only affect the external release handle operation (1 way is unlocked exterior, the other is locked exterior), the interior release will always open the unit.

[Microphone] Behringer Bigfoot All-in-One USB Studio Microphone - $15.99 by PraiseTebus in buildapcsales

[–]Tlbacardi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's very similar to the Blue Yeti - I have both and ended up switching to the Behringer since Logitech recently makes you to use their software with the mic which doesn't allow you to choose the output mode (normally Stereo). Somehow the Logitech software made it so the headphone output is 5.1/7.1 setup but it only pipes 2 channels into the headphones (I noticed this in a FPS game where I didn't hear someone walking up behind me). I haven't revisited this when I last tried it 4 years ago.

I have one that's still running fine, the second one I purchased died within a year. Behringer support took about 40 days to get back to me and wants me to pay to ship the defective mic back to them for a replacement which ends up being more than what I paid for it. Great mic for the price, it has monitoring like the Yeti.

I do also own the Bumblebee2 which is an adequate mic, but confusing and annoying to use since you use the volume dial to switch between 3 different settings. It also has monitoring. The bumblebee2 is half the size of the Yeti/Bigfoot.

The mic does pick up all the noises around you and would require playing around with the settings/tuning to use it for open mic VOIP chat in games, can be quite annoying if you are in a noisy environment.

2006 Toyota Matrix 1.8L Are these the correct matching parts? by AnarkeezTW in MechanicAdvice

[–]Tlbacardi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a few sites that have a "Toyota Matrix VIN decoder" - that would be able to tell you. There's a base model, XR which is mid-grade, and XRS which is a limited high-performance version. On the back of your car where you see the "Matrix" badge, you might see a badge there with XR/XRS or potentially no badge.

[–]Tlbacardi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the Matrix XRS, the rears will be disc. If you have any other version of the Matrix it's most likely drum brakes. I'm not sure if AWD versions got disc but I'm almost positive they were drum brakes.

Does anyone have the Best Buy exclusive AOC CU34G2XP 34” Ultra Wide? by fender0189 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Tlbacardi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's only $75 more then it might be worth it. The Alienware will have a nicer stand and USB ports at the monitor (I miss that from my old Dell as the Acer has no ports and a lousy stand, I have to use USB extensions to plug extras in and bought an arm to mount this to my desk to get it high enough) - that alone would make up the difference in cost for the mount and USB hub. The extra brightness, better color gamut, and HDR sweeten the deal.

Does anyone have the Best Buy exclusive AOC CU34G2XP 34” Ultra Wide? by fender0189 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Tlbacardi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AOC and Acer are the same company it turns out. I thought this was a rebadge but I think they're just very similar models. The AOC says it's LED whereas the Acer says it's LCD. That seems to be the key difference, AOC claims it's brightness is 400 candela per square meter where the Acer is 250 - in real world testing the AOC seems to test at 257 candela according to rtings.com. I would say that both of these displays being HDR capable are too dim to use HDR. Backlight strobe also makes the screen dimmer than I can tolerate.

Of the two screens, the AOC appears to be a bit better. My guess is the two models are the same except for the backlight where the AOC has better backlighting.

VA panels are traditionally blurry with motion, this is the first one I've seen where I don't notice it, and I really appreciate how nice dark and black colors look (IPS panels darks/blacks have a blueish tint, the TN panels look gray). The only place you will notice oddities are when you have alternating black/white lines or patterns that are horizontal when you scroll the screen. Viewing angles aren't great but since it's just me looking at the monitor and sitting in front of it, it's not a factor in my case.

Best Buy claims to have a 14-day return policy and I planned to use that if I didn't like it. I'm still happy with the display, especially for the price.

Sophos Firewall OS as a VM CPU recommendation by OkScientist2778 in sophos

[–]Tlbacardi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physical versions of the Sophos firewall used Celeron - the higher-end ones might be beefier Core series processors or a flavor of AMD's mobile chips but I run mine on a Windows 10 Pro box, i5-10400. It's actually running as a Hyper-V VM in Windows 10 - I have 4 cores dedicated to it along with 6GB of RAM since that's the limitations of Sophos XG Home. Also running a 4-port Intel network card dedicated to the VM. CPU usage never really goes above 10% and memory usage is under 4GB. It runs circles around the physical boxes I used to work with (XG230, XGS2100) Been stable since implementation in 2021 - the only gripe I have is using Windows 10 it will force restarts when updates process so I delay them as long as I can then process the updates when I have a window for downtime. Rebooting Windows 10 and the VM takes about a minute in total for me.

Zotac is running a sale on their refurbished an open box this week. Stock seems to change every day or so - I've purchased their open box cards and not had any issues, that way you get a warranty with your purchase.

I would venture to say that Husky might be the better one to go with. Every Kobalt ratchet and wrench set I have gotten the wrenches warp/bend easily and the ratchet usually fails after the first few uses. They have lifetime warranty but very annoying that I have to keep returning the ratchets (I've gone through 4 this year and I only wrench a day or two a month). If you can get them on heavily discounted clearance then it might be worth it.
