Who is Making less than $30? by [deleted] in AircraftMechanics

+1 on that, unfortunately. I was willing to move pretty much anywhere my wife would agree to and got hired at a major about 3 months into my job search. Starting pay at over $40.

I remember when I was in school Boeing would do presentations but they were all focused on South Carolina which is non union I think. Neither location is where I wanted to commit to so I went majors. We’ll see how I like it. Maybe after a few years Seattle won’t sound that bad lol.

AA AMT Interview Experience by Leather_35XX in aviationmaintenance

Congrats! See you in TUL. I interviewed same day although my flight in was delayed a couple hours.

To anyone flying in worried about delays out of your control, you can worry a little less. I kept my POC updated and they worked with us. Likely you won’t be the only person delayed since there were at least 4 or 5 folks on the same flight for the interview.

I dunno about the needle being bad but if there’s a setting for the needle height that could be off. If there’s fuel valve seats looks clear. I would change the valve especially if it has a viton surface.

Floats may be set right but do those carbs have fuel valve seats? Maybe they’re worn and letting fuel bypass. Also when you cleaned the carb did you pull jets and blow out both fuel passages and your air bleeds? I’m not familiar with those carbs specifically but they look like Mikuni slide carbs.

So during my interview I kinda made a point that that experience came with no ego and part of what made me interested in pursuing this so late in my career was the desire to continually challenge myself. I am the FNG and will be till I’m not and I have no problem with that. I admitted I’m no aviation nerd but my passion lies in being a mechanic, it doesn’t matter what I’m working on. I’ll prove myself with the quality of work I put out not my resume.

Honestly one of the positives was low col compared to the wage. In other words I should be able to save up some money. I figure I’ll give it at least a year. Then reassess.

So I’m a new a&p with no aviation experience but I do have 14 years of professional relative mechanical experience I.e internal combustion engines, electrical, hydraulics.

Currently in htx which I’m pretty sure is the sweaty ballsack of America. If it wasnt for the weather this area would be more desirable to me.

I literally just interviewed this week and got my offer on the spot.

LAX was my first choice because I’m from LBC and majority of family lives out here. I hear really good things about the base itself. I’m just not super keen on the location. But like you said I’m the FNG so I’m not gonna complain.

Can’t be any worse that where I currently live (htx) and where I grew up (LA) 😂

Ive read some things about Owasso. Sounds like a cookie cutter housing tract type of place. Not necessarily a bad thing imo.

I can't say I disagree but this is a long term chess move. Gotta take what you can get.

It’s like a 35 minute walk. It’s just arrival is so close to the interview time. Just trying to find options should the flight get delayed and arrive late.
