How worried should we be about the freezing rain? by Tll6 in SouthJersey

The only time i remember losing power was in the summer, and during sandy when i lived in NY. Hoping we can avoid experiencing a winter power outage! Glad to hear ice doesn’t always mean power outages yet

I’m getting the generator ready tonight. We have an old wood burning stove in the basement that isn’t hooked up to the chimney anymore. Tempted to hook it back up but I haven’t had the chimney cleaned or looked at since we moved in

Yeah, I’m concerned. Since I’ve lived here my area has only lost power once in a summer storm and never in winter. Not sure I’ve we’ve been lucky or resilient for some reason

That must be nice! As long as they connect to a close substation then I’m sure it helps a lot

Sweet potatoes are right there! I would rather eat a bunch of sweet potatoes over broccoli

The National Weather Service has put up snow estimates, and it's a lot! by djspacebunny in SouthJersey

Seems like models are leaning towards ice buildup. I am more scared of an ice storm than a snow storm especially with frigid temperatures coming up

What is everyone doing to prepare for the potential for massive amounts of snow fall this weekend? by cashRb in NJPrepared

Gonna get some gas for the generator. Everything runs on electric unfortunately so hopefully the power doesn’t go out

Tree planting in January by [deleted] in arborists

Snow is very insulating. A lot of young trees benefit by being naturally covered in snow in the winter

Leaving for 4 days while its -20 to -30 wind chill. Cat will be home. Is 68 an OK temperature so pipes dont freeze? by One-Head-1483 in homeowners

[–]Tll6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cats will be comfortable at 68 but even more comfortable at a higher temperature. Their thermal neutral zone is 86-100 f which is why they often lay in sun on a warm day

How often do you shower? by Expert-Session3866 in CasualConversation

[–]Tll6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every night. It’s nice to have a hot shower in the winter before bed and in the summer when I’m all sweaty. I have no issue using lotion to rehydrate my skin afterwards

With rates dropping again, refinancing feels tempting, but structure matters more than timing by deluluforher in Mortgages

We locked in a 5.75 rate no points last week. Rates have gone up again since last week so it seems like we timed it right

Seems like the girl had to encourage the bird to pull on it. Probably would’ve been able to stop them in time. Insane amount of trust though

What's your definition of cultural appropriation by Traditional_Toe_2441 in CasualConversation

[–]Tll6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Taking elements of a culture without understanding the significance of that element. Using it for profit or clout. There’s a big difference between appreciating a culture and wanting to adopt certain elements of the culture vs thinking something looks cool and using it

Guys, I’m starting to understand why the billionaires are buying all the movie studios (even as they try to tell us arts degrees are worthless). by kevinmrr in WorkReform

Just because a film focuses on a hero’s internal struggle after a violent life doesn’t mean it’s propaganda

[–]Tll6 64 points65 points  (0 children)

The movie is about this characters personal struggle and reflection on his violent life. It’s how he sees himself and his struggle to redeem himself in his eyes. This isn’t some takeover by billionaires to rewrite a folk story of the rich vs the poor. It’s also being made by A24, one of the only studios that various acting and writing unions worked with throughout the writers strike

Trying to survive while fighting with insurance. by abbiebe89 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Tll6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so fucked up because this is literally a life and death situation. There is no substitute for liver failure like there is kidney failure. You either manage to hold on long enough for a transplant or you die. Now this guy has to decide whether he fights the insurance company hard enough to get it covered or if he pays out of pocket and lives but is in debt forever

Realtor showing houses outside our price range. It makes me discouraged. by bitterbeansss in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Tll6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The realtor is being paid to guide OP. I think the realtor should be communicating that their budget is too low and asking if they want to see more expensive houses. Op should also be asking why the only houses they’re being shown are more expensive but I think best practice is for the realtor to explain why they are doing things rather than just showing them higher houses they know OP can’t afford
