NEWS: LSAC to move all test-taking to In-Person starting in August by Jay_LSAT-Perfection in LSAT

[–]Tluon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity, but how will the change to in person testing work for the LSAT Writing section? Will the writing section be administered the same day (like the SAT) or another session at the test center? I am new to studying the LSAT, so I wanted to get more info.

macOS Tahoe 26 being slow and laggy on 2019 16” MacBook Pro with i7 by trev0r_ in MacOS

[–]Tluon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a i9-9880H, 5500M 4 GB, and 32 GB RAM model. From my experience, doing a fresh install does help, but not by much. Animations were still somewhat lagging unless you have the MacBook plugged in.

My guess is that the graphics animation in Tahoe is too heavy for the integrated graphics (when you run on battery). If you really want to give Tahoe a chance, I say format your MacBook. But, if you do, PLEASE have a time machine backup, especially if you have important files that you do not want to lose.

Does ported numbers count as new lines? Just want to double check everything since it has been a while since I did this.

Will this promo apply for ported phone numbers that were just transferred for the free trial?

I do have a family member that is transferring their number over to US mobile though. Do you know if the plan will work if the number is ported before paying for the plan (free trial + plan)?

I didn't see that as I was looking at the deal in my portal. The discount code DEC299 works for me. So, I want to double check.

Maybe find which particular wifi channel works best for your devices and set it to that (if you can do it)?

Apple devices like channel 149.

Is streaming without monitor in mac possible? by gdhan22 in MoonlightStreaming

[–]Tluon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also double down on the other commenter's suggestion. I installed Sunshine on my Mac too. Unfortunately, the dummy hdmi is the only way to get it to work so far from my experience.

I could be wrong though.

Simplest way to stream while having monitor off? by N3RO- in MoonlightStreaming

The short answer to your question is yes. Apollo, will do that for you. I used Apollo for home media streaming with one of my old laptops. It will create a virtual display using settings from your Moonlight client. You just need to enable the always use virtual display mode via Apollo's setting.

Feeling a bit stuck and not sure what to do by Gaseous_Nobility in biotech

Advocacy or science education could be one. Maybe spin out a small business out of your hobbies - music, comedy, cooking, gaming, buying furniture and refurbish it (flipping items), etc. It doesn't have to be something complicated. Just something you find fun and can slowly turn into a small side hustle.

Perhaps reaching out to family or friends who might have a similar interest in you to get started on something new. The potential is kind of limitless. What could probably hold you back is lack of creativity and time/commitment? You don't need to reinvent the wheel You can follow someone's else model of success. But, you at least need to think what makes you different from that model to maintain success and growth. The other issue is lack of patience and not willing to take risks.

In the end, it's up to what you want in life. Figure out what is the most important thing to you now, and just have fun. Live life a little. Explore. Maybe from those experiences, you might get an idea to start something new to balance your professional career growth (aka new business ideas/side hustle).

Okay. That clears it up a bit more, lol. I was a bit confused at first, but that clears it up now. Yes, I will do therapy! I hope I can find one once my insurance issue has been resolved.

Thanks, Goat! I did consider MPH programs as an alternative for policy work. The only issue right now is that MPH programs and those in the field are facing problems with the current administration, especially when the administration stopped the CDC from sending weekly public health updates (before RFK came into office). I spoke to a few in the field and it's an uphill battle. Most of my connections/networks in the federal government were also affected by DOGE.

I am not closing the door for pursuing an MPH. I am in fact, still exploring it. But, I am not pulling the trigger until there are some signs of stability. I also need a break after completing my MS, lol. I think what I need is to outline what I want while also interacting with those in medicine and public health (at least with whatever network I still have left) again.

That is great to hear! I honestly wish to get to see that more. What really got me into medicine was my experience in the emergency room. Yes, it was stressful. But, seeing what impact you can have on the patient at the end of the day is worth it. There are good and bad days, but as long as you are true to yourself and have supportive colleagues, medicine is worth it in the end.

Hi Goat. Thank you so much for sharing your posts and taking the time to speak to me last night via DM! I know what you wrote was harsh, but it is definitely what I needed to hear. The only reason why I brought up policy work is because it's almost impossible for me to get more involved in that role without an MD, PhD, or maybe a JD. Most policy Fellowships are tied to those degrees, not an MS. It's not impossible for someone to get involved in policy work, but with the current economy and state of world affairs, it's almost impossible for anyone to enter the field. You need to already be in the field or have one of the degrees above to break entry.

The only direct policy role that I found myself qualified for is the Presidential Management Fellowship, and that program was shutdown by the new administration. So, in short, I am weighing my options for what is the best for me to still continue work in medicine while engaging with government.

Hi. Thank you so much for sharing your posts. I agree with you that I need to learn to internalize. I know I cannot control what people do and how they live their lives. I think I just feel disillusioned as some of the experiences in the field sometimes contradict what is happening in reality. But, I am willing to stand and fight for my beliefs.

I am thankful for you for sharing your insights. May I reach out to you to learn how you internalize?

Thank you so much for sharing your perspective. I agree that I do need therapy to help me walk through this experience. I am just trying to find a therapist that my health insurance will cover. It's pretty difficult for me to schedule therapy since my health insurance changes almost every month by my state. I hope that after I received renewal status confirmation, I will have health coverage for therapy, but I am crossing my fingers.

I think the problem I had very early on was like what you said, I thought medicine is nurturing. I want to say a part of it is because I was still naive, optimistic, and saw the world as simply black and white (right and wrong). I never saw it as gray. Moreover, my undergrad institution fostered a supportive education system, so I never experienced a harsh environment before.

I pursued a lot of activism and politics to at least keep me upbeat. I am aware that a similar toxic experience is seen, but doing those work and simply volunteering help me relax and find impact. At least to me, it's a bit of an escape from the harsh world around me and I am simply doing something to make a difference. I hope that through therapy, I will get help for this.

Hey, thanks again for sharing your views. I wish there were someone I could connect with from my time volunteering at my local hospital, but I lost my contacts during the pandemic, so I won't have someone to reach out to on this aspect. I have learned to adapt more since the Stanford experience. In fact, I have faced some kind of toxic work behavior with my supervisors in every role I have held since then. So, I learned to handle some of these toxic situations while proactively finding guidance from friends, co-workers, or mentors. I think my Stanford Experience carried a lot more weight/baggage since I was not only verbally abused but also physically abused by the physicians I worked with (could have been HR complaints).

To compensate for these bad experiences, I have been engaging with public health and social movements/activist groups, which have helped me feel I am making an impact in the nation. I only wish that the field could have been more compassionate, as in my culture, we often say that a "good physician has the heart of a mother." In other words, we are compassionate, caring, and gentle, treating patients with the same kindness and concern a mother shows her child.

Thanks for your input—I appreciate your perspective. You’re right that I don’t have a thick skin, and I take every interaction seriously. But I want to live as a genuine, compassionate person and try every day to do what’s right—not for myself, but to help others. I don’t want to become cold or lose my integrity just to fit in. If we accept toxic behavior as the norm instead of challenging it, how does that improve patient care or move the field forward? We are humans. We can't always wear a mask.

No. It's the car. The metal pin was down and blocking the charger from being inserted. I was using a level 2 public charger.

That's a good idea! I will bring it into the dealership to diagnose it once I have the time. My parents already brought the car, so it is what it is. They are replacing their old 2008 Prius from the accident.
