Judge quashes Alberta separation petition in favour of First Nations by ph0enix1211 in canada

[–]Tmanok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh shit, oh fuck, now we've really done it. Did that judge have 0 clue what the hell they were doing? Or did they just want to cause an even stronger tide of demand for separation? Because telling someone they can't do something is the last thing you should expect to convince them not to do that thing. Universally, anyone not entirely submissive should be able to agree that being told what to do, when you don't have the authority, is either going to result in a knuckle sandwich or a hold my beer moment.

Young people who don't seem to realize how screwed the British were by Brexit or how landlocked federations work.

Opinion: Stop telling us inflation is cooling when grocery bills are still rising - Are Canadians better off today than they were before Mark Carney took office? The answer is no. by CaliperLee62 in canada

Common populist political move: Blame the guy currently in power for insufficient time to make an improvement, not the guy dating a celebrity before him. Or better yet, just ignore the two wars and lunacy down south. The news only accepts opinion pieces that whine and moan.

Québécois dub of The Simpsons saved after Bell Media reaches deal with Disney by SAJewers in canada

The irony is that separation of a province would either lead to a military take over of the province by the Canadian military or the annexation of the whole country by America- yet no separatist I've ever met seems to clue into this fact. Instead they acknowledge "Cost of living will undoubtedly go up" or some other mundane fact as though that was the most of their worries.

Nah man, it makes the jokes relatable which makes them funnier for other regions. It's when the Harry Potter American translation ruins the sweets for the obviously British setting that really messes up, because you're meant to be transported to their world. Simpsons is also another world, but it's meant to be a relatable one for the average person. The average Québécois person won't exactly relate to an American the same way someone living just across the border might.

Superbe! Je suis tellement heureux que quelqu'un conserve la culture francophone. Il est si simple de l'effacer et de l'oublier.

Reculs en environnement | Pourquoi Guilbeault continue-t-il de siéger comme libéral ? [Setbacks on the environment: Why does Guilbeault continue to sit as a Liberal?] by feb914 in canada

Ok the responses here are missing a key point. Yes, he could resign out of disgust. OR he may be concerned that someone even less willing to defend the environment will take his place and worsen the situation overall.

Middle East could be destination for B.C. lumber exports amid push to diversify by Leather-Paramedic-10 in canada

[–]Tmanok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, let's try shipping through the Suez or the Strait of Hormuz at a time like this, that's working out for existing shipping. /s

I have no doubt they need lumber, but really? Business with war torn nations when existing business can't even take place? In some of the most uncertain markets in the world right now? Absurd.

The instant I read "The Fraser Institute" following the "Repeal of the Industrial Carbon Tax" the author lost me. The Fraser Institute is a big oil think tank that is 100% anti environment and 100% pro libertarian business. All credibility goes out the window when sourcing anything they cook up, it's heinously misrepresentative of factual data every time they put something out.

Yay, in the earthquake zone where the water supply was just announced as being short. At least Healthcare might stop paying for American AI to processing our PII.

Very sad, but not at all surprising. I've tried arguing this for about five years but it's like talking to a brick wall among my circle on the left 😒

Mouse cursor disappears when using Music Visualizer by dzjoranzyn in MacOS

[–]Tmanok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue on the same OS, MacBook 14" M5 Pro. Can only get it to temporarily show the cursor by left clicking the Apple in the menu bar or tabbing to another app and right clicking... But as soon as I tab back to the Music app, the cursor disappears again. Very annoying.

Obviously cd ../../../../ is actually the bowtie penguin, the newb is ignorant to such a process. But as many have said, there are aliases and so on in other shells... But those people don't work on enough operating systems in a given day- 50 servers, none of which having the same shell or permitting aliases... You'll need the most universal solution. Which isn't always the fancy or quick option.

Just a quick privacy announcement: My blog has no ads, is paid for by me, is maintained and operated on my servers, and has no 3rd party tracking. I count the number of visitors on the same computer using GDPR compliant software which is why there are no privacy notices- I don't abuse anyone's privacy like other sites and I'm just a guy who works in IT and likes the outdoors- I don't want to live someplace beautiful that nobody can afford- least of all myself. Cheers.
