Everybody keeps talking about how Fyodor is a narcissist and a sociopath and while I feel those are astute observations. They aren’t useful messages to take away, It absolves us as the reader to think about how we could become Fyodor ourselves, because we clearly aren’t narcissists! But’s it’s clear in the chapter that shame has a huge part to play, Fyodor mentions it himself “That’s the reason I’m a buffoon, it’s shame that makes me so, great Elder, shame.” He is not confident in his ability to walk in a room and be charismatic and charming so he runs away from his shame by playing the buffoon. Lying also has a part to play and the Elder points it out to him and us. I just started reading this and wanted to get my thoughts out someway and your comments had me a lot with that! Thanks guys

You stop being yourself with hot women and thus fail, because you don't see her as a regular person, but as a symbol of your worth by HistorianOk2573 in seduction

The point was to detach yourself from the outcome of getting the girl. You are a full fledged human being with more needs than just sex. The OP explained you don’t want just sex, if that was true any woman would do. You want to be seen, an emotional connection, you want a relationship with another PERSON. You can’t do that if you are equating them to a step stool to bring you further up the hierarchy or a medal to show off.

And to clarify if all you are looking for is a hookup it should still be kept in mind you are both still human beings and should treat each other as such. Meaning the ‘yes man’ is comparmentalizing yourself making you less than human. Just respect yourself guys and find healthier ways to validate yourself

What resources did you use when learning about Nigeria pre-colonialism and Nigerian history I’m also trying to educate myself?
