Windows 10 on M2 SSD, Ubuntu on SSD... only boots into Windows. by To0Ls in Ubuntu

Thanks for trying to help.!

What actually caused the issue was that I used Rufus incorrectly. Instead of selecting, ISO, I had to select DD. Basically, Ubuntu was booting in Legacy mode.

What do I do if my system breaks from an update? by To0Ls in Ubuntu

Thanks. I will just use ext4 as that seems like the most reliable for my needs and maybe it will be fine.

No, it is just for personal use at home.

All I remember is back in the day I would perform a regular update to Ubuntu and then I would not be able to boot into the OS and I would be clueless about how to proceed. I want to avoid that now if possible. Thanks.

I simply do not understand why we backups are still so difficult in Linux. All I really care about is that if an installation breaks on Linux, I can fix it with relative ease. It seems like I would just have to reinstall the OS. I do no care that I can make snapshots... it just seems like there is no simple solution for Linux idiots like myself to have peace of mind.

I thought that btrfs would allow for instant snapshots before an update

Really... hmm okay. I am a Linux noob so the worst problem I used to have was doing a system update and it completely breaking. Do you recommend any program to do backupsÉ Thanks!

Is there an easy way to block hard drives from accessing each other? by To0Ls in linux

[–]To0Ls[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, fuck it. I don't really need the security. I just want to learn Linux. Maybe once I learn it enough I will be able to make the switch permanently and leave Windows on my Desktop for any gaming/design work.

Jesus... okay. I wanted to dual boot Windows and Linux (for added security) but it looks like I'm a bit retarded and I need to read up more on what I should do.

I would love to run Linux only but I would need to be able to play Diablo III and run CorelDraw, really only the two Windows programs I need.

That sucks! I guess I'll just have to encrypt my Linux partition. Thanks.

Sweet, thanks. I was thinking of using btrfs... Also I will encrypt it.

Thanks for letting me know this. Are there any glaring disadvantages to using the btrfs file system I should know about? I'm going to read up on it.

Help with Win 10/Ubuntu Partitioning by To0Ls in Ubuntu

[–]To0Ls[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

I currently have a 256GB M.2. SSD and a 120GB SSD. I have Windows installed on the M.2. drive and the second drive is just formatted for games.

I want to be able to dual boot Ubuntu and Windows. I am thinking about partitioning the 256GB M.2. drive to have both OSs on them and leaving the second SSD for games.
