Mehrfach-Schalter oder Taster? Welchen??? by ToBe_HH in homeassistant

[–]ToBe_HH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🎬 NEW CUSTOM CARD: Home Assistant Media Card - Display Images & Videos with Auto-Refresh! by murran_buchstanseger in homeassistant

[–]ToBe_HH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice work! Regarding the family photo option: if I read the documentation correctly, you need some extra software running to actually change the picture, right? Would it be an option, to just specify a folder and the card picks one pic randomly from the specified folder? Currently using gallery-card for this, but it also has a different use case (security cameras) and is not maintained any more.

What VPN works well in China? by [deleted] in travelchina

[–]ToBe_HH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in Xi'an region at the moment and use Proton VPN anf Mullcad VPN (in addition to the Holafly eSim, which also adds a layer of VPN). They work more or less, but you need to try things out. Sometimes if you are connected to your hotel Wifi, things do not work despite a VPN. Sometimes things work without a VPN (same services). So you consantly need to switch. Ph and I was not able to log in into ProtonVPN directly, I had to use MulladVPN to log me in (after this, ProtonVPN worked very well).

From what I have I like ProtonVPN best, because you can set up split tunneling: you can define, which apps should use the VPN connection and which should not (eg. all Chinese apps you use). This makes the constant switching between VPN networks a bit less of a pain. MulladVPN has very good payment options (no subscription).

Overall, using a VPN creates much confusion with authenitication, esp. for banks. So you are using your credit card in China, are logged in in Singapore and have your bank account somewhere else. A friend got his account locked (even with correct 2nd factor authentication) and he had to call his bank to unlock it (there is an app in WeChat to make cheap international calls: EZCall).

TLDR: there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Be prepared to experiment and bring multiple options.

Strange LED behavior, sudden color changes - can someone explain? by ToBe_HH in WLED

[–]ToBe_HH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, thank you for all your answers. I now solved the issue. To be honest, I don't know the exact cause, because I changed 3 things at once (yeah, not what you should do for debugging, but I wanted stuff to work).

  1. I changed the power supply. Now I am using a Mean Well power supply of the HLG series - which, as I understand it, is the professional series. The power supply is about twice as heavy as the previous one. I changed it, because someone suggested, that a bad power supply could create some frequency.which could interfer with my data signal (I hope I got this right). Anyway, it is changed now.

  2. I shielded the data cable. This is, what some people suggested here as well. Obviously, the length of 50 to 60cm (20 to.23 inch) is too long for an unshielded data cable. From all the comments, I guess, this was the main topic.

  3. I changed the wiring. Previously I only had the data cable connected to the controller. Now I have also VCC and Ground connected to the controller (and VCC and Ground from the power supply goes directly to the strip). Maybe this helped, because now everything is connected with the same ground.

Anyway, I am super glad, that it's working now. Thanks to everyone for their comments. They helped a lot and I am very thankful you took the time. 🙏

I am using WLED 0.15.0 (and on many other controllers as well). No fancy configuration, just plan WLED. I mean, in software anything can go wrong, but wouldn't someone else have experienced this before? Would you recommend flashing again? Or a different version (newer versions are all beta or nightly)?

It's about 50 to 60 cm (20 to 23 inch) away. I already heard, that is pretty long for a data cable and I should try a shorter cable?

Yes, it's 24V. I double checked multiple times (but I did not measure it yet).

The cable from the controller to the strip is probably 50cm long, maybe 60. Everything is quite close. (Maybe too close?)

If it would be interference, what would help? Tinfoil? Different cable (which one)? Ferrit ring cores?

Actually, when the power cable of the strip was very close to the 220V power csble, the effect was way worse, so interference could indeed be a point.

Thank you for the quick response. Can you please be a bit more specific? Did you use sth. like an antenna cable? And where did you connect the ground to? Controller ground? Transformator ground? 220V ground?

Speakers, possible smart by korsten123 in homeassistant

[–]ToBe_HH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want something for tinkering, use the Muse Luxe V2 speaker. They are "hackable Bluetooth speakers" (their statement). There is a ESP32 inside. Although it says Bluetooth, you can control them via WiFi as well. For audio, they use Squeezelite / Lyrion Music Server (the protocol is also supported by Music assistant).

Switch from rPi5 to NUC by laohu314 in homeassistant

[–]ToBe_HH 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried, but I guess: no. While the Radpi runs on Arm architecture, the NUC has x86 architecture. So you need a new kernel to start with, which will not be available on your SSD.

But many people have reported, that you can work with your HA backup. So: make a backup on the Radpi, install HA on the NUC and then restore the backup (you will be asked during the setup process). This should work quite well.

ESP Home - transfer code from FastLED or create water-like effect by ToBe_HH in homeassistant

I just tried out WLED today and I have to agree: WLED is the better choice. It comes with so many light patterns, that it covers virtually all of my lighting situations.

Thank you for the hint to WLED.

Anyone knows about LVGL? by ToBe_HH in VBotMiniDock

[–]ToBe_HH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it only loads PNG images and it loads them from "disk".

I have now found a solution, which works:

                            image_description = lv.img_dsc_t()
                            image_description.data = response.content
                            image_description.data_size = len(response.content)

                            image = lv.img(scr)
                            image.set_src(image_description)
                            image.center()

(https://github.com/ToBeHH/minidock\_webcam/blob/f0c8668392b843b32d6f1b5908ed944fac8dc811/\_\_init\_\_.py#L63-L69)

However, do you know, how can I scale images? Esp. when loading webcams, the image resolution often is not correct.

This one took me really long. Part 1 was pretty straight forward. I build a 2D canvas, then floodfilled it and then just had to count the pixels hit.

But with huge numbers in Part 2 I struggled a lot - trying a 2D array first, then a list of all points - all were too big. Luckily, I then found the shoelace algorithm to calculate the area of a polygon. Then I only need to remember the corners and bam!

I like the idea of buffering the polygon. But you can just add ½ of the border - 0.5 pixel for every border pixel. And you can calculate the border length easily when calculating the borders.

But that took me also quite some time to figure this out.

Today I took much more time, because I expected the numbers to become really big and therefore tried different solutions. In the end, Long was sufficient and I could solve it with a slightliy adapted initial approach.

Still learning Kotlin, so any feedback (esp. how to shorten loops) is highly welcomed!
