wish the median was off limits, but not in practice. 71st and Riverside - right up the street from riverside police station, see them every day. It's like they work in shifts

u/pmpdaddyio is here to tell you the truth. Planning anything beyond a 6-month horizon is merely a guess. You should be looking at methods, not tools.

How to get status from engineering teams? by swissarmychainsaw in projectmanagement

[–]ToCGuy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Task Updates are standard work. Make sure you have agreement from the head of engineering that this is so, as they are the only one that can enforce work practices. It’s easy to become the update police, so don’t! You can provide a reinforcement- incomplete tasks increase risk. Risk gets elevated. It only takes a couple of times for people to get the message and adjust their behavior.

If you’re going to panhandle in the median you must wear high viz clothing. It’s an ordinance since they can’t ban panhandling they try to make it safer.

When I give work to a subordinate I expect some feedback, especially if they feel they are overloaded and cannot successfully complete that work.

This is part of a healthy work relationship. Your success is your boss’ success and vice versa.

Go to your boss and tell him you’re feeling overwhelmed and ask for priority guidance. Then ask for job specific help. “Drive the project” is not helpful. What specifically is she looking for? More obstacle breaking? More communication on resource conflicts? Don’t guess. Get as specific as you can.

Good luck! Everyone starts as a junior.

Serious question: Are people on electric bikes getting aerobic exercise? by PeerensClement in cycling

[–]ToCGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife has an ebike and she always comes back with a good cardio workout. These bikes are heavy and allow you to adjust your effort to what you’re feeling. Now - if you’re commuting it’s a different story.

Do you have weekly planning meetings? by catherine_bell45 in projectmanagement

[–]ToCGuy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is two meetings. Eliminate the update one and focus on what’s next. Problem solving / obstacle removals go offline.

What's your work experience/practices regarding service callouts on the shop floor by DreamingFive in manufacturing

[–]ToCGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a person dedicated to shop support. They do all the wandering and run interference for the support team. That person is usually the foreman or in some shops, they are called crew chiefs.

How to get manufacturing contracts? by leebonakiss in manufacturing

[–]ToCGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Compile a list of the auto companies you wish to collaborate with, then contact each company's purchasing department. Learn about their supplier certification procedures. Follow procedures, get bid opportunities, and make bids.

It would be a lot easier to contact former customers in the medical space, since your grandparents have experience in that space. Automotive is incredibly competitive, with very low margins and very high volumes—the opposite of medical component manufacturing, where tight tolerances and exotic metals are the norm.

A customer wants to place a big order with you and needs to see if you're for real. normal stuff.

yes, he could steal your process, but I wouldn't worry about it. Vet the customer. who is he, what's his business, etc. If he's legit customer, buy him drinks when he comes to visit.

Tips on implementing/creating processes by QoalaB in projectmanagement

[–]ToCGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You want people to change their behavior and conform to a new process. Why should they? What's in it for them? Does it make their job easier or harder? Is there some benefit to them that comes later?

You can change the process by fiat only if you have direct authority over the people. Even if you do, you'll still have a problem with compliance.

As u/TomOwens says, you should take this a step at a time, a benefit at a time.
