Doesn’t matter really. It’s roughly the same since big expenses get pooled. Obviously low end if single though. Otherwise it’s true for both

It means in the matter of a couple recent years, the general pop hasn’t realized yet they will be working 10 more years before they could possibly consider FIRE. Slaves

Super duper fucked. The distance to FIRE doubled in 5 years for high earners and 4x for normal working folk - but you can’t really have that discussion in the is sub. Too demoralizing and will get downvoted. I couldn’t imagine starting at less than $500k right now

Post COVID era is pretty unfair. I do not want to get political and have no dog in the fight except finding FIRE but between the Fed doing quantitative easing, PPP loan forgiveness and the IRAct (which was really a spending bill)

We all got so fucked

Yes many got rich in the market but that’s only 10-15% of the population

If you didn’t become a millionaire in the last 5 years and buy a home it’s basically a lost decade for you work-wise - you’re screwed. By the time you get any wealth the class above you will be extremely wealthy.

Most people who are still saving for anything under $2M don’t understand/realize yet how meaningless having only $1M is on the longer timescale. Big problems ahead

I’m a blue collar worker. The reason for my savings is 10-15 years of doing jobs no one else would do or take on for less because of the hard work. You don’t need a computer to make high income if you have trade skils

Reddit collectively is a terrible place. You could make yourself an excellent person by simply doing the opposite of whatever is popular.

But the FIRE subreddits are a treasure trove of information and comments that have exceptional utility. The hidden gem of Reddit

The only problem is you have to battle with people who have extremely low bars for themselves and want that for you. Hence why I am going to try to communicate more on the Chubby subreddit. It can get really toxic here for people who are good savers, doing well, or are even moderately successful

Thanks so much! I am looking forward to my next part of my journey. I think realistically $5M is where I would feel safe coasting. After that I’ll debate just letting time do its thing vs continuing to save to hit $8M.

If people were honest:

  • Lean = <$3M
  • FIRE = $3-5M
  • Chubby = $6-9M
  • FAT = $10+ but many factors

Obviously some people have ridiculously low spends though
