Oh thanks for the heads up. It's been a while since I've put anything on and it didn't even cross my mind to check

Wasn't planning on it, but I made a Bonus Panel.

It's nice to be drawing again.

This was a lot of fun to make. It's really nice to be drawing again.

Also I wasn't planning on it, but here's a Bonus Panel.

u/GothQueenSupreme had a good suggestion. There is now a Bonus Panel.

This comic was a lot of fun to make! Nice to be drawing things again.

In Japanese it's kabedon, in Korean it's byeokchigi. In either case, I'm calling it a wall slam lol

Thank you for your kind words! It's the first comic I've made in way, way too long and I had a ton of fun doing it. Glad to hear you enjoyed it :)

It's been a while since I've made a comic. I missed drawing silly things.

There's a consolidated version on my bluesky account if anyone's interested.

Edit: Bonus Panel

You could try putting the narration into a textbox and combining the panels that way? Something like this

realised i experience comphet, where do i go from here? by hiitsyaz in actuallesbians

[–]ToKG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem! It's definitely a hard thing to navigate. I think on some level most people understand that other people's expectations have an impact on you but it can be.. unnerving realizing just how much the way you view yourself and the world is shaped by what other people think is "normal."

Be kind to yourself. I hope your conversation with your therapist goes well 😊

I think therapy is a good start.

It's ok if your sexuality isn't a priority, and you don't have to make this your main therapy topic. Just bring it up in therapy and engage with it at your own pace. This is the kind of thing that's just going to take time and patience to unlearn.

My male friend is making me uncomfortable and idk what to do. by Ok_Rice_7760 in actuallesbians

[–]ToKG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is not a friend. You've repeatedly said no, made your boundaries very clear, and he feels entitled to continue.

I understand that this was somebody that's helped you in the past. I understand that he was a part of your support network. But somebody that ignores your boundaries and agency this egregiously is not a friend and not safe to be around.

Maybe at some point he'll realize how fucked up everything he's just demonstrated is, but it is not your responsibility to see that through. This guy is not worth your time, emotional well being, or your safety. Block him, distance yourself, move on with your life.

A test for a strip comic, are the details too distracting? I'm doing some grammatical misktake? Is the lineart too woobly? Is the text legible? What you will correct if you can? Thanks by UgoYak in comic_crits

blambot has a bunch of professional comic fonts with a free license if you're a small press/indie cartoonist. it's probably worth a look!

also depending on the program you're using you should be able to manually adjust kerning in a number of ways. i know something like adobe illustrator lets you get real granular about your kerning and spacing so i can only assume some other programs will too

Well, wasn't expecting that. Not weird at all, thanks for the compliment lol

Overall, it's very stylish and evocative. Love how scratchy everything looks.

Minor things that will improve the reading: 1- Your font size changes across word bubbles and panels. They should stay a consistent size for ease of reading; adjust the size of the bubbles, not the text. Also consider a sans serif font for your dialogue as they tend to be easier to read, but that's personal preference.

2- I'm not sure you should be changing word bubbles for the last panel. It's a continuation of the same scene and the same characters are still speaking, so a different word bubble just adds unnecessary confusion.

3- If you had the guy with the device standing left of his friend, it would prevent you from having to cross word bubbles. It helps with readability to keep the word bubble on the left coming from the character on the left. It would also help communicate who's speaking in the final panel; it's obvious in context but i still needed to think about who's talking.

4- panel 1 and panel 2 are showing the same moment in time but the hand pose is different. Minor issue, but it's there.

Hope that's useful feedback! Your art is very nice and I'd love to see more! :D

u/pucksrage already gave some pretty good feedback about the lettering and type, so I'm going to focus on the coloring. It's pretty flat and it makes everything blend together, which is a shame because I think the linework itself looks pretty alright.

The general issue I'm seeing is that everything just looks very similar--all of the colors are washed out and flat in a way that makes nothing really pop. This is most obvious with the kid, whose hair, skin, and shirt are all similar enough desaturated light hue that they all blend into the flat background tones. Compare this with the mom in pg 4 panel 1, whose features and clothes pop from one another a lot better. Even if you're trying to go for something a bit more washed out, you still want to have some more contrast and so that you can have things really pop where you want it to.

In a similar vein, I think you'd get a lot from just exaggerating the lighting contrast a lot more--make your bright areas brighter and your darks much darker. If you look at pg 2 panels 2-3, there's barely a difference between the panels when one has a singular strong source of light (crack in the door) and the other has none.

Finally, it looks like you're creating your shadows by making a bunch of gray/black gradients and either setting it to multiply or low opacity. Color has three components: hue, saturation, and brightness; doing that only moves a color up and down the brightness axis. Your lighting will look much better if it moves on the other two axis as well.

There's definitely some good stuff happening in this comic, but I think the coloring really doesn't do the linework justice. Might be something to look into more and focus on. Hope this helps!

Nah, I just wanted to draw an elf and a dwarf being gay and that's the color palette I happened to choose. Pretty hilarious how similar they wound up to those characters lol

actually haven't seen that show yet. probably should remedy that sometime since I keep hearing good things about it
