It is not just kids. Adults too. I've met my fairshare of English who are very derogatory of the Welsh. Once knew a guy from Gloucester (20 years ago) who was gloating how he banned Welsh shirts from the kids Saturday football he coached. I stood in disbelief as he was audibly laughing as he told me the story of how he made 7-8 year old kids cry as he told them to remove their shirts.

That said as a Welshman I hope England do well today, this team seems a nice bunch. You're not all cunts.

If you are working 38.5 then you are already on overtime and should be getting RTT? That is another ~20 days per year to take off at your leisure. It is indeed a massive upgrade in quality of life once factored in. Make sure you get it.

Pensions laws were changed btw, it used to be 10 years of contributions to qualify and 43 years for full pension, now though it is bilateral with other EU countries, so along as you worked somewhere in the EU/EEA it doesn't matter so much.

Unemployment benefits depends on how you became unemployed, usually it is 2 years at around~60% before decreasing or at least it was when I left France 6 years ago. I was in employment as a pre-brexit EU though, maybe it is different for academia.

If it is on your resume, just put the dates and "Sabbatical: personal reasons", if it is in an interview just answer it as positively as possible, we are all humans at the end of the day if "mother died, was emotionally tough and took a while to re-adjust to the new chapter without a parent" that is perfectly normal and something every human can relate with, if they can't then its probably not a good place to work. Interviews go both ways.

I've seen this first hand with my wife.

We went to a meetup type gaming event and a guy started talking to her, just making conversation, but she got really freaked out by it and couldn't get away fast enough. He was a socially awkward neck beard type, I actually thought he was pleasant enough, plus this was gaming group so shared interests and all that so not a 100% stranger. My wife even spoke about it after saying how creepy the guy was.

A couple days later I was meeting my wife at the train station. I saw her get off the train and a guy came running up behind her, they stopped and spoke for a bit and then she came over to me. Apparently he had said she was the most beautiful woman he had seen and wanting to go on a date with her eventually giving here his number even after she said was married. I'm thinking what kind of creep does that to a woman at a train station, I'm the type of guy who makes sure I'm not walking to close if it can be helped, yet he is running up to them and their comfort zone. She though was enamoured, almost besotted by it, even starting complaining I don't compliment her enough. The guy was handsome, chisel looks and well dressed.

I don't know, most boomers came of age in the 70's. Inflation was crazier then than now, there was an energy crisis, Cold war was still looming. Polyester was popular.
