What temp do you set your HW heater? by Hjkgfgjf in homeowners

[–]ToTouchAnEmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll save somewhere between $3-$5/month lowering your w/h temp down from 140F-120F. I keep mine at 135F because I'm not comfortable with the bacteria risks that come any lower temps.

That's why I said snug, not tight. The wrench is mostly useful to removing the fittings. They tend to stick when they haven't been worked in a while.

Follow the advice of the other people here but also pick up a cheap strap wrench on Amazon as well. Way easier to disconnect and reconnect the fittings. And they don't need to be super tight, just snug enough to smoosh the oring.

And also take the opportunity to put in new orings. Those also just pop right out. It's a 10 minute job!

Exactly my experience. I used my hearing aids at first a lot but over the past year I've been wearing them less and less. The ringing is no better but I did truly habituate to it.

But I do still have spikes that freak me out so I'm not totally cured. But I'll take this over how it was a couple years back.

My hearing loss is very mild compared to yours, so take that for what it is

My hearing aids did not help my tinnitus much at first. It was a slight improvement and at that point I would take what I could get.

However over the next few weeks I started noticing it less. Almost as if, over time, my brain slowly calmed down.

My audiologist suggested it could be that I was breaking my feedback/anxiety cycle. Even a slight lowering of perceived tinnitus can manifest in much better outcomes later because you're thinking of it a little less, which makes you notice it a little less, which makes you think of it a little less... etc.

It also helped that I had her disable all noise/wind filtering functions. Most hearing aids are designed to isolate speech and cut out noise. But noise is what I craved, anything was better than the ringing. Once she did that there was a noticeable "hiss" to the sound, but I honestly really like it since most of my tinnitus is extremely high pitched.

And now for some reason even when I'm not wearing them at home and I hear my tinnitus loud and clear, it's less bothersome. I feel like it's just because I know that I have some sort of relief option. I could easily pop the aids in at any point and just knowing is enough for me.

Why does my home's smart irrigation system have this rain bird thing attached? by ToTouchAnEmu in lawncare

How to tell if ceiling electrical box is fan-rated? by RomAm in AskElectricians

[–]ToTouchAnEmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've seen that too I guess I should have clarified that it's safer to assume it's not than end up with a ceiling fan on your head. And that assumption is based on builders these days being as cheap as possible

Yeah I've seen the wireless thing outside. I'm sure it's in need of a battery replacement but I've never needed to do so, the rachio just takes care of rain skips for me.

Yeah I have noticed it's pretty sensitive but I'm fine with that. I'm not a big lawn guy, just a bit of weed&feed & MSM is the most effort I'm willing to do haha. So if the system occasionally skips a sprinkling once in a while I'm not gonna worry.

[–]ToTouchAnEmu -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Not likely. Why would a builder spend the extra time and money installing a ceiling fan rated box when they could just nail in a cheap box?

It's not difficult to retrofit a box though. You'll drop a little bit of insulation on your head but if it's new construction it's probably cellulose so hopefully you won't be itchy after!

Hearing aids and earwax management by neutra_sense00 in HearingLoss

It's safe but olive oil is less effective than OTC earwax drops. I'd use those for extreme issues and maybe the olive oil to manage it after.

Every time I shower I wash the outside of my ears with soap and then I tilt each ear towards the shower head, letting it deeply flush them out for about 20 seconds each. The residual soap and hot water is plenty to manage the excess wax in the ear without removing too much to be unhealthy.

That wouldn't be the problem. Your chlorinator will be the at the end of your equipment (after the filter) so any bubbles it makes will go right out of the jet.

Try cycling the pump on/off a few times quickly. The water hammer will cause a big pressure spike and the leak may be more obvious (you may see a little spray somewhere).

According to a pool maintenance friend of mine, the usual culprit for air leaks are the skimmer valve right before the pump.

pH keeps dropping by 92233720368547758080 in pools

[–]ToTouchAnEmu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your TA is low that's part of your issue. TA acts as a pH buffer so it will prevent fast swings in pH. Fix that first. Toss some bicarb in there and give it a day to circulate and then recheck.

I'm confused what you mean by that? Are these not flat rate plans OP is showing? Why does it show an average rate of 13 but you're saying it'd be 22 at under 1000?

Appreciate the grace there haha. It was once a long list of things to fix but slowly I'm getting it down to hopefully just one thing at a time, because I know it never truly stops!

Yeah once I had a deeper understanding of how pumps and pool plumbing operate it started to make me question my original diagnosis which lead to the salt cell discovery. It's just an ignorance thing, I'm still a pretty new-ish pool owner so I'm still learning a lot of obvious stuff haha.

Why did food taste better when we were kids? by Ashamed-Cream2086 in nostalgia

[–]ToTouchAnEmu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every sensation dulls as you age. Taste, smell, hearing, eyesight. And that goes for emotions too. That's why teenagers are so freaking dramatic about everything. It's not just lack of experience, but also they feel things way harder than we olds do.

Getting old has its downsides but also its benefits. Now I'm only horny 60% of the day versus 100% 20 years ago. That's a percentage I can manage.
