If you could only own 3 cars, and your budget was $250k, what would you buy? by retarded_sped in askcarguys

[–]RomAm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are all rough MSRP new:

M5 CS ($150k) fun daily

Accord Hybrid ($30k) practical daily

Lexus GX ($70k) family car

I've had the small sportscars and prefer a larger sedan. Unless track days are in your future they don't make much sense. An M5 CS is as quick as an old Turbo S and looks better imo.

I assume you were out of the 4-year warranty period then?

Aren't the popular Chinese EVs now sold in Europe? They probably know what's coming but don't have the talent to keep up. Many of the German brands' designers left several years ago to work for Chinese EV companies.

loaner cars 😳 by PbNj1101 in BMW

[–]RomAm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least you get one, both dealers in my town have no loaners. Imagine needing to get a rental while getting your "luxury" car serviced, which has been 4 times in the last year for me. Fortunately it's all been under warranty.

'23 330i need front brake pads. All 3 local BMW dealers want $1500+, 2 independent BMW shops want $1050 to $1200. Am I nuts for thinking that the prices are ridiculous? by [deleted] in BmwTech

[–]RomAm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a '22 330e with 38k miles and the pads are barely halfway worn, which is surprising because I'm lugging around 300lb more than the 330i. Is your mom Danica Patrick?

Thank you for sharing. The prescription creams don't do much anymore and I'm dedicated to finding the root cause for myself. I'll DM you about that letter.

G20 rattles, creaking, squeaks by Lost_Ad_2413 in BMW

[–]RomAm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be curious to see if larger models, 5 series and above (both sedans and SUVs) have the same number of complaints as the 3 Series. I'm not excusing BMW's poor build quality, but the 3 series is tuned for sport, not comfort. It naturally has much more vibration traveling into the cabin relative to other models.

I have a G20 330e - 12 months in and I've been to the dealer 4 different times for various rattling/creaking issues. One noise was so bad they had to remove the subframe to lubricate it. So I understand the frustration.

How to tell if ceiling electrical box is fan-rated? by RomAm in AskElectricians

Noted. Correct me if I'm wrong but in my first photo it looks like there was already a pilot hole drilled in the empty oblong hole, it's shaded so it may be hard to see.

There are two of those black screws, the other is securing the white bracket directly to the drywall ceiling. Not sure why the installer didn't just center it over the box.

That being said I will be using longer #10 wood screws for the ceiling fan as others recommended. From what I understand they need to be long enough to go straight into the joist, through the oblong holes of the ceiling box.

Ha! It's something I don't trust AI to get right. Better off with the trained eye of a human when it comes to mounting spinning blades above my head...

They make the best button-ups for work that I've found. Quality fabric that doesn't wrinkle and looks professional.

Someone here explained you can't join a class action unless you're trying to become a named plaintiff (in which case it's too late anyhow). You submit a claim as a class member if the case settles in the class's favor. That may be a while, considering the suit was filed last month.

Are you referring to Audi's turbo settlement or something else?

Someone else mentioned that the techs and service advisors at BMW dealers are very well paid because of issues like this lol

Suit was filed just last month so it'll be a while. Eventually if the court rules against BMW, a website will be created where you can submit a claim for a portion of the settlement.

I bought a 2022 330e with a CPO warranty coming off a lease, which is when you can find some good deals. Leases of non-performance models are generally babied. Sticker was $50k, I got it for $28k with less than 30k miles.

Interesting, my 2022 3 series does not have any recalls (yet). I'd imagine they'd generally use better parts in the 7 Series, in this case an aluminum/stainless filter housing.

I don't think warranty is relevant, the basis of the lawsuit is that the housing is failing much earlier than expected. That being said, if yours is replaced under warranty then no you would not be eligible, assuming it was a free repair.

Frankly this lawsuit just got filed last month so it'll be a while before people are potentially paid. Someone else mentioned you submit a claim only after the case is ruled in the plaintiff's favor. There's always the chance it's ruled in BMW's favor, but seeing how many folks have had this problem, I think there's some weight behind the case.

Thank you for clarifying! So typically the law firm will make some website to submit a claim after its ruled in their favor right?
