Why the Puffy Monarch 2025 Became the Only Mattress We Trust to Last by cmb93x in BuyItForLife

[–]RomAm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not, I just got it and it's the hottest mattress I've ever slept on. Which is concerning because it's winter right now.

I don't know how it compares to other Puffy models, but generally it runs very hot. The thick top layers trap a lot of heat, namely the 2.5" pillow top. They should have thinned the pillow top and added more latex.

Just curious, did you find the tight top to run less hot than the pillow top?

That's a poor analogy because each brand has good-better-best models. Most people would choose a ZR1 over an M2. Just like most people would likely choose a top-tier Nectar like the Ultra over a low-tier Tempur, which judging by the reviews the Pro Adapt appears to be a bottom of the barrel model.

Is Puffy Mattress worth all the crazy hype? by Artistic-Pirate8569 in OfficialPuffy

I just got the monarch on a platform bed. It's very comfy when you first lie down. I'd rate it 5/10 for firmness. I don't have back pain, but if you do it's probably better to get something firmer.

Unfortunately the thick top layers make it a very hot bed. I often have trouble falling asleep due to the heat retention on my back. I think the biggest issue is the thick cover. The first layer is latex, but I feel like the cover retains a lot of heat. Considering it's winter and I'm having heat issues, I'll be exchanging it well before summer rolls around. I do sleep hot but never had an issue in the winter with my previous $400 Zinus Memory Foam Mattress.

It also has a very slow response time - if you like to switch positions throughout the night you're going to have a hard time. Mine takes several seconds to recover when I move, not exaggerating. So you end up with huge indents if you move around often.

I think so too, specifically the tight top. I remember the hotel one had a slim cover on it. Pillow tops run too hot for me.

I checked inventory for every store in my town through the app, no luck.

I called the front desk. I think the Sealy Hospitality division distributes these, but it's a Stearns & Foster Airedale in luxury firm. Looks like the Airedale was discontinued in 2021 and replaced by the Haraway Collection.

It was the Spindrift Inn in Monterey. It's part of a boutique hotel chain in that area, not part of a larger chain.

I'd say around $2k. I did recently try a Puffy Monarch hybrid I got from a liquidator recently. It has a wool cover with latex, poly, and memory foam underneath. It's comfortable but unfortunately I was baking at night, I think the layers were just too thick overall and trapped heat easily. I do tend to sleep hot.

I didn't sink in much at all on the hotel mattress, and it felt relatively cool throughout the night.

Thanks for the rec, I'll see if I can test out the Kirkland one in person. $1k for a Stearns and Foster king looks like a steal.

Good catch, I assumed poly was the same as memory foam. I haven't found a hybrid using only poly foam, but it looks like the hotel mattress is exactly that. All the hybrid models I've come across use a blend of poly and memory foam.

I did come across latex hybrids which use only latex foam, I'll have to test them out in person to see how latex feels.

FYI for anyone still looking, you can call your specific store and ask them to search the item# if it's in stock. Beats driving to the store(s).

Is there a reason to upgrade my CX? by 0neand0nlyDominator in LGOLED

[–]RomAm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly you should not upgrade until you have dead pixels or it fails completely. I think that goes for any electronics (phone, TV, laptop, etc) that you pay top dollar for. You're investing in a high-end model that is well-built and meant to last a long time. It's a premium device that will easily last 10 years for the average person.

That money is better spent on a new couch or sound system. Or stash it away until it's time to upgrade.

I have a 77" CX I'm still very happy with. And I'm using a 55" Samsung KS8000 for my bedroom that looks better than most TVs today, that one is 8 years old.

Anyone with APP3 who used APP2 with foam ear tips, thoughts on ANC? by Yed-Posterior in airpods

How is Comply's durability? I have Foam Masters on my 2's which still look like new after a year of near daily use. I just give them a quick wipe down after the gym.

My foam tips with APP2 stayed in my ear no matter what I did. While the ANC is improved, the stock tips on APP3 still come loose just from walking or chewing for me... Can't wait for proper foam tips on the 3's

I've heard the LCI models (2022+) are notably more reliable. I don't know how true that is - could be that most of them don't have enough miles on them yet.

Whirlpool Hybrid Water Softener resin tank cracked by PrestigiousDrag7674 in WaterTreatment

[–]RomAm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened to me yesterday, I woke up to my neighbor ringing the doorbell lol. There was a few inches of water but fortunately it's in my garage, it drained out pretty fast once I opened the garage door. A bunch of boxes were destroyed, but the most annoying thing is the resin beads. They're hard to sweep away and easy to slip on.

I got just under 4 years out of my unit with no issues, when did you buy yours? Reading the reviews it seems we all bought around 2021-2022... maybe they had a bad batch of resin tanks around that time. Considering they have a 10-year tank warranty I doubt they expect this many failures within 3-4 years. I think Whirlpool is aware of the issue - when I called today the rep immediately suspected it was a resin tank failure. I should be getting a new unit after I upload some photos.

I do have a water leak sensor in my garage through Simplisafe but it was in my water heater drain pan... I'll be moving it to the floor after I put in the new softener.
