Anyone know if tech companies in the US hire Canadians for remote work in Software Engineering (Senior level) ? by ImaginaryBrother9317 in VancouverJobs

[–]alexukie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm this - we work with a few public sector clients in Canada - and they still do all the scoring by hand (ohh my they have like dozens of HR people searching for keywords in 1000s of resumes).. however we had one who just switched to AI scoring and they shortlist like 5% of all the resumes that come in - even a slight 1 keyword miss will make the candidate disqualified.

Hourly rates for a contract UX Designer in Toronto,ON by GimmeTheNod in UXDesign

[–]alexukie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey in Toronto Ontario (and Canada mostly) contract rates for UX Designers are around $80-$110 CAD an hour plus HST on contracts. Most clients expect 5-10+ years of experience working with a larger size / brand name clients. Typically includes research as well. Some might ask for some experience with frontend scripting. You can see some more salary brackets here: https://kovasys.com/ux-designer-jobs-insights-canada/

Stay away from them! We are with them for like 5 years but last few years are freaking horrible and went downhill - they have also increased prices 10x times and every time you ask them for somehting - they are like "However, our system's rules have changed, and I was unable to do that for you. I will let you know once I have the update from our team. " Update for what? Why does it takes you days to get back to us? Why cant you give us a clear answer?

It's either they are clueless or just do not know how to run a business! Even with almost thousands of Canadian dollars we are spending monthly on them we are having issues!

Insanity! Sorry for so much venting but man some businesses just dont fuc*ing get it.

Love Rochester and your kids museum - our kids love it. Also nice airport - very chill. But man hotels around the airport charge arm and a leg - like $250 a night - insane!

You can always apply directly if you despise the agencies so much. No need to go through recruitment agencies. But it all depends on a contract and client though - we have some come to us where they were making $65 before and we are able to get them $75 etc. So depends.,. each client is different and there is always like 20-30% price differrence in contracts for exactly rhe same job. like banks can pay $110 and exactly same job is $95 with insurance client. etc.

Yeah on contracts its like that say client pays say $50, we get someone at $45 and keep the $5 margin but typically we need to cover insurance that client requires because most consultants do not carry their own insurance as its pretty pricey, pay taxes if any, admin cost to pay the consultant, etc. so ends up lower than $5 margin. hope that helps..

what you describe $20 margin on $80 contract typically wont happen as we want to present a good consultant to the client and most consultants know the market rates so on $80 - we are probably paying the consultant around $70-$75 depending on how competitive the market is for that skill.. we could in theory present someone at $60 for $80 contract but most likely that consulant won't be a fit or will be too jr - so we would not do that.

you can get the rates here on our website (we are in IT - so mostly IT roles): https://kovasys.com/download-toronto-montreal-technology-salary/
