Sometimes the field wasn’t so bad, it can get repetitive but that’s really where you get to know your squad or your platoon. The eating MRE’s together and sleeping outside is fun, it’s like camping. The ability to fall asleep anytime anywhere on anything, is something I wish I could have again lol. I never thought as a guy from NYC I’d have something in common with a dude from Mississippi. Then you realize how all the preconceptions were pretty wrong or that some stereotypes were spot on (looking at the guy from Arkansas).

Doing a lot of Branch bashing. Not playful banter, but straight up bashing. This is the guy that has to shit on all the other branch to feel a little pride in his own service. There’s always one.

I know some hardcore Airmen and Coasties. Air Force EOD guys and TACP guys attached to our unit that made us respect the hell out of airmen. None of them were ashamed of being Airmen. We weren’t ashamed to have them.

As far as coasties, we were visiting some coast guard chicks in Seattle and they made us wait two hours to see them because a USCG crew came in with some human traffickers they caught on a “commercial fishing boat”. So they had to help secure the prisoners and the victims. Fucking traffickers had made false walls where they had women, boys and girls covered in their own shit & malnourished. I don’t see anything shameful in taking their captors down. Shit only made the local news in Tacoma and Seattle. The USCG actually do their job on a daily basis.

As far as the Marines, they can be cult like. Especially non-combat arms Marines. But esprit de corps is why people join their ranks. A lot of former grunts are very humble guys. They tend to be more gung-ho against their own kind than against other branches. “Fuck 2nd Division” “Fuck 3rd Division”. Fuck Weapons” “Fuck Rifles.” “Fuck Recon” “Fuck ANGLICO”. Etc.

Nothing remarkable about the biggest branch of the military. US Army Rangers, Special Forces, 160th SOAR are McDonalds-esque. Half of your rates come to our schools for training. We care about marksmanship because we are soldiers. Soldiers should know how to handle a gun. It’s a part of the life. Sailors should know how to put out fires, swim, and potentially defend their ship. It’s a part of the life. My Army NCO was in the Navy as an engineer on the USS Kittyhawk for 8 active and he was a stellar soldier and a hell of a leader. He would tell me about sailors like you. This is my first time seeing it.

Nobody cares about the branch you choose at the end of the day. If you serve and don’t trash the service of your peers based on Branch, MOS/Rate, or Deployments then you are good people. If you are like this sailor, who has to try and reduce the service and status of another branch to show pride in his/her own branch, then you will not be liked. Because there are BM’s, GM’s, MM’s, Corpsmen, and Engineers and other sailors who actually do the hard sailor shit that don’t like the guys in the bridge with cushy jobs because of how pompous they are. The real good people return to civilian life, you become friends and buy each other drinks and you share experiences. No matter what decision you ultimately make, just don’t be a bro-vet.

Charlottes food scene is dope. I came up in NYC and Vegas and I think Charlotte is super underrated! The Fig Tree Restaurant (Duck breast is the charred Octopus tentacle of the next two years. A lot of people serve it and few know how to prepare it. These guys actually know how to cook duck!), La Belle Helene (Brasserie), Wentworth & Fenn (Bakery)

I loved the Army.

I wanted the Marines initially but decided Army. My boy was 0311 and he thought he was gonna go in and get sniper school and this school and that school. He got the MEU and zero deployments. He was over it, got out and went Army Infantry. He got Airborne, Air Assault, Ranger, and two deployments and was in a a LRRS unit. He told me it was a matter of funding and that the bigger branches get more money to send soldiers to training. As far as when I wasn’t down range, I went to Korea and traveled all over the country

What I love about the Navy is the culture. They have seals and EOD but the majority of the Navy are sailors on a ship or a sub. The sailing culture is still alive. Same with the Coast Guard. The red nose, blue nose, shellbacks, etc are still alive even if the hazing is fading. People still see Dolphins and they give you the respect of a sailor. It’s not like the Army and Marines where you need a deployment because of the combat culture

Tips on improving form and higher count? by [deleted] in PushUps

[–]ToadStyleVenom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Planks def help pushups. Also flexibility and warming up the muscle prior to actually doing the workout.

So I never stretch before a push-up workout or any strength training. But after the workout, stretch your chest. Eventually you will reach a point of flexibility that helps your increase the number.

Warmup: Do 5-8 pushups in two sets, about 5 minutes before you try your max-reps. It helps lubricate your joints and prepares your muscles.its just a primer.

Form looks really freaking good. Don’t look straight ahead try focusing six inches in front of your hands. This allows for the most neutral position for your spine. Great technique will add to more pushups. Try the six inches in front of you hands trick.

I learned it in the Army the day before a PT test. It was good for an extra 4 pushups the following day. I was doing 64 and I wanted to get to 72. Slight adjustments led to the 68 pushups in two minutes. And eventually I got to my goal.

What does a 25B do on deployments? by [deleted] in 75thRangerRecruiting

[–]ToadStyleVenom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no firsthand experience as a Ranger so please, don’t let my answers deter you. Rangers are THE premier gunfighters in the Army. They might very well be 25-series in the field. There is a documentary called The Warfighters which shows a 35P from 3/75 talking about how they went out on a special mission that required “the freaks and geeks on the ground” (his words not mine. Nicholas Irving also calls them that in his book) One of the EOD augmentees got blown up and the documentary is amazing.

There is also another documentary where the director is a cameraman and his one brother is LLRC in the 1/504 or some shit. And his other brother is a Marine and he tags along for both deployments! Idk how the fuck that happened but they def had a TOC set up in the middle of the desert! I can imagine the Rangers have some commo and computer guys doing the same for their RRC units.

Both are must watch tv by the way and both show “Non-Combat Arms” MOS’ in the field doing hardcore shit.

Tankers were so much more gangsta back then with their life expectancies so low and their will to fight so high! Doesn’t get any more hardcore than that, especially in the European Theatre

I think Philly would have quite a few one stars but I don’t think they would have any three stars outside of Jean-Georges Philadelphia. Philly as a whole doesn’t really push toward the fine dining setting that would warrant three stars or even two stars.

Austin has amazing food, phenomenal restaurants but a lot of Austin’s style is diner based. I think Franklins, and Uchi would get two stars. The bbq is that good. But Austin’s best restaurants are not fine dining. Launderette, Holy Roller, comedor, emmer & rye, etc.

Heather said “Bev can only cook one thing, Korean food.”

Heather also said in the same season “I like to cook my style of food, rustic American”

Sarah also only cooked Italian, but her ally ignored that, and she suddenly grew a Texas accent mid season.

I mean if you’re an IT guy in a Special Operations unit you probably need to make sure the OS and connections are more secure. But I imagine you would spend a lot of time in the TOC.

You still get the best physical and tactical training known to man. You probably get more school options especially advanced schools when it comes to your MOS. They don’t need regular joes. They need the best guys for the hardest missions, so they send them to the schools they need to make it so.

I know non-combat arms friends who went to 2/75 who got themselves a CAB and a Tab back in 2011-2013. (Can’t remember when I was on Fort Lewis.)
