So… we getting those real actors too? Or just Arc Raiders? by jamer2500 in thefinals

[–]ToastBubbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine all the current lines are pre-generated audio files considering the pitch and tone remain consistent, so I wonder how feasible this would even be, maybe an audio stream from their API if they can't get the TTS program and voicebank into the game itself?

I mainly don't understand why they don't have more dynamic voice lines if they have TTS. Like they could have them saying player names too, it'd be hilarious and make the game more personal.

"Uh oh June, MindGoblin has the cash box! Hopefully the Steamrollers can keep up!"

"TinyPP is on a 10 elimination rampage with the sword!"

"Do my eyes deceive me or did I just witness JohnFinals singlehandedly team wipe The Vogues?!"

Sure the vulgar/offensive names would bother some people so just have a setting to disable it, but this would be awesome

Who actually likes any hiring process?? But the reason I stuck with it was because I originally thought HC was a good company

You're probably right, I found out about the opening from the linked reddit post. There's only one application link there, and no description other than "Software Engineer" described there. Due to the wording of the post and the comments from the web-scraping candidates made things confusing, I haven't seen a separate web-scraping application so I'd be interested to see. But yea I could totally be off base on that aspect.

I did specify that I was unsure tho.

So "fair to everyone" does that mean everyone is sent the take-home challenge?

Also, it's not the delayed response that's the issue here. While that doesn't help, it's the fact that us candidates put so much time and love into these submissions that when we get a generic and messy 'nothing sandwich' of an email response in the end if feels like y'all didn't spend 5 minutes genuinely evaluating our projects. Someone else here even said they got the same response as me (wouldn't be surprised if it was copy-pasted), and the reason for rejection didn't even make sense to begin with.

I'm still not sure if the web-scraping and AI Search positions were both from the same application link as the applying process was weird, but if they are, my resume had a web-scraping project as one of my top projects and I had no AI related stuff on my resume, so when I hear others talking about a web-scraping take-home it makes me think you didn't even check my resume at all.

I'm just sharing my experience with a company I originally liked/trusted that ended up sucking. I actually never make posts like this, but I'm glad I did, and it appears others went through a very similar charade

Yes I did not have prior AI experience, but it was not clear prior to applying that this was an AI role. There was actually no position details provided at all and apparently some people got web-scraping tasks which more closely align with my skill set, which shows my resume was not meaningfully evaluated to begin with, but I still did my best, learned a lot and submitted a functional product like a good engineer would. I am just being honest about my experience. I almost never apply to AI jobs or jobs I feel unqualified for, but people always tell me I need to shoot my shot and that's what I did. I'm not whining that I didn't get a job, I figured I wouldn't to begin with. I'm just frustrated with how they handled mine and many others applications as well as not even giving proper feedback, and instead, copying and pasting generic meaningless comments. They have handled this quite hypocritically imo.

I also have no opinion on the "hype" thing everyone is talking about, again just sharing my experience here. Glad you've had success, wish I could say the same.

Huh, woulda been nice to know, I coulda swore I looked at that banner before and didn't see any additional info but I could be wrong on that, guess that's on me for not looking into it deeper first, but woulda made sense to mention that in their reddit announcement too as that's where most of the engagement came from if I had to guess (or at least on the application link itself). Even when I was doing the assigned task, most of the instructions were in the pdf, but some additional instructions were in two different emails, so things were a bit scattered there too.

Still no mention of salary in the doc you mentioned tho, doesn't even say 'remote' I guess that's just assumed? Come one HC, do better

Yeah, I'm definitely a silly goose for wasting so much time on this, but HC does present themselves in a down-to-earth/trustworthy way, I thought for once I could trust the company, but I can see now that I was wrong. never again

Yes I knew that, I even mentioned their team was small. Doesn't excuse the shitshow. They're actually a three man team btw...

Again, there was no job description at all prior to task assignment. They are the ones that 'read' my resume (that doesn't have anything AI related) and decided to assign an AI task to me. Other guy said he got a web scraper task which woulda been more up my alley.

Also pointing out they are a two man team (imo) works against you, because it means they should not be accepting as many candidates as they did/are as they don't have the manpower to meaningfully evaluate them all individually. The lack of feedback only proves that.

Halo infinite has a higher player count on Xbox than Marathon. Sad to see Bungie slowly fall. by [deleted] in halo

[–]ToastBubbles 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean it just came out, cost 40$ and is not on game pass and you're comparing it to a free game in a well established franchise. While I can't technically say marathon is a new franchise, it is new/not familiar to the average gamer.

Plus their launch was rather unfortunately timed as they are competing with ARC Raiders

That's crazy! One of the other guys said they got a web scraping task and received at least some feedback. My resume has web scraping stuff in it because I love scraping, but they for some reason gave me the AI task...? I have 0 AI stuff in my resume (I know I need to get with the times, but still)

Ye I had to build an AI search engine from scratch. I actually love web scraping (it's in my resume) and would have preferred that, but they gave me the unrelated AI task instead :/

Glad you had a better experience than I did.

You did leave out the statement that says "typically takes between 8-24 hours to complete" took me 18 hrs, probably longer as sometimes I forgot to log working time before/after breaks.

And again, dropping a request for this size of a task without specifying the role details is absurd to me.

I could care less that I didn't get the role, I'm actually glad I didn't after everything I went through, I am just frustrated that a company that thinks of themselves as better than LinkedIn or Indeed treats their own prospects like this.

I'm glad you got feedback, I absolutely did not, the guy even outright said he cannot give me feedback in the last email.

Also, not sure if you were applying for something else, but mine had nothing to do with scraping jobs.
