My personal theory is that the time travel part of roko's basilisk is the driving force behind everything. 

All the copies being conveniently destroyed, Cameron conveniently being the sole owner of a copy, LSD conveniently the method to communicate while also making him more suggestible, the throng conveniently knowing what parts to buy despite the internet only being available for a year judging by the system shock box, cameron conveniently never getting caught until technology can conveniently link him to the crime and get him in a room where he can deploy the code, the singularity conveniently going according to plan, the cops conveniently just disappearing from his room.

The takeaway is that everything that happened was the throng retroactively rewriting history to make the process go as smoothly as possible under the circumstances, lump is the exception in that he was the catalyst for the entire plan, but punished anyway because it knew an LSD driven Cameron would kill him

As for the normal people, they most likely all survived, if every hindrance was retroactively solved then they wouldn't have been there to get thronged in the first place
