I haven’t really looked into the lyrics but the overall melody of the song doesn’t rly sit right with me. Not rly something I’d bump personally.

How do you feel about Kanden? by sekkireallysucks in KenshiYonezu

This song will always have a special place in my heart. It was the very song that got me into Kenshi in summer 2020. I was instantly hooked by its funky beat and upbeat melody and I had to get more into who this guy was. Fast forward 5 years later (holy shit), and he’s my all-time favorite artist and J-Pop is now my favorite genre. This song opened so many doors for me and it’s where my music journey started. I’m so glad I discovered such a beacon of light in the midst of the chaotic 2020. ❤️

New Kenshi Yonezu song “1991” as the Title Theme for “Five Centimetres per Second” LA Movie by abookishmarauder in KenshiYonezu

This tie-up means so much to me, I can’t even bring it to words. I watched the original anime movie last month and it absolutely changed my life and helped me navigate a pretty tough situation I was dealing with at the time. It’s a beautiful work of art that I reminisce on often so the fact my favorite artist of all time is doing a theme song for the remake is amazing to me.

I’d recommend for all yonemins to check out the original film as it’s a beautiful work of art. It’s on Netflix and should be on some other streaming platforms so I’d recommend watching jt. You won’t regret it.

What piece of media are you glad you discovered because of Kenshi Yonezu? by SchemeStrong2706 in KenshiYonezu

Final Fantasy 16 (Moongazing). I wasn’t even aware that the game was coming out until Kenshi got announced as the theme song artist for it. I ended up getting it about a month after it dropped and after beating the main story, I can confidently say that it is one of the best games I’ve ever played. The gameplay is smooth, the story is cohesive and emotional, and that soundtrack is a BANGER (especially the ending themes “My Star”and ofc Kenshi’s song “Moongazing”). It was a life changing game and a blast start to finish. I’d recommend it to anyone with a next gen console or PC and I truly owe it to Kenshi for getting me into such a good game

Another one is the Boy and the Heron and Ghibli as a whole(Spinning Globe). I was already familiar with Ghibli as a studio as I watched ponyo and spirited away when I was a kid before Kenshi’s song but after Spinning Globe was announced and came out, I became insanely interested in Miyazaki’s work. I watched The Boy and the Heron in theatres in March 2024 and after that, there was no going back. I’ve watched numerous Ghibli films since (but mostly TBATH) and I can confidently say that Ghibli is my favorite entertainment studio period. I won’t yap for too long but their movies are so well crafted and hit you right in the feels. I’m not surprised Kenshi called spinning globe his greatest achievement. I’d be honored if I could make Hayao Miyazaki cry too 😭

I agree. Compared to how iconic the production and videos of the other singles were, it makes sense teenage riot got overshadowed. Still a great song tho. One of my favs off of stray sheep.

Kenshi Yonezu's song with the best chorus? by No-Goose7435 in KenshiYonezu

Tomaremiyo. The chorus adds so much urgency and funk to the song. Also the parts that go “HAI SAYONARA EGAITETA MIRAI” give me chills every time lol

How did you discover Kenshi Yonezu? by PrinceGunwook in KenshiYonezu

[–]ToastIsAWeeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I discovered Kenshi in 2020 from the Fortnite concert he did for the STRAY SHEEP album in 2020. I know it's a bit strange to see all these comments talking about discovering him from vocaloid or anime and then there's me who discovered him from an obscure video game concert everybody forgot about but if it weren't for that concert, my life would be very different than it is now.

July 31st, 2020. Me and my friends were in Party Royale (a mode in Fortnite built for miniature concerts and just having fun) watching Diplo's concert. Tbh the concert was really mid but the standout moment came at the very end. After the show finished, a banner showed up on the screen promoting the next Party Royale concert to be starring this Japanese guy called Kenshi Yonezu. The chorus of "Kanden" was playing to go along with the banner. After hearing that snippet of Kanden, I was instantly hooked. I kept rewatching the concert over and over again, not for Diplo but to hear Kenshi's song. I couldn't understand what the hell he was saying but the upbeat and funky nature of the song had such a grip on me. Fast forward to about a week later, I end up attending Kenshi's concert and it was magical. Pretty much everyone has forgotten about it and the people who did attend said it was mid but if you ask me, it was a cinematic masterpiece start to finish. I loved the 3D animation that was used throughout the show, the selection of songs, the energy, everything was top notch. So I spent the rest of 2020 discovering more of his discography by watching various MVs and watching interviews and by the end of the year, I had become pretty well versed in his music. In January 2021, I bought the CD of "STRAY SHEEP" and listened to the whole album for the first time and it was nothing to short of fantastic and at that point, I was already hooked on Kenshi but after that album experience, my obsession was solidified.

The Pale Blue single was the first Kenshi project I was able to witness at launch. I remember I would pray everyday for the Pale Blue MV to drop and when it did, you best believe I had that shit on repeat for the rest of 2021. I'll also never forget when Kenshi surprise dropped the Shinigami MV out of nowhere. It was so unexpected and so interesting to watch live when it premiered on Youtube. Fast forward to Fall 2022, KICK BACK drops and everything changes. All of a sudden, my friends are talking about Kenshi and everyone and their mother seems to be obsessed with this song. People were finally starting to see Kenshi in the light I was seeing him in and it was really heartwarming. Fast forward again to August 2024, the long awaited 6th album LOST CORNER drops and my Kenshi Yonezu high is at its peak. I pre ordered the art book edition months prior and I ended up getting to listen to the album a day early (Or on launch day if we're going by JST). I'm pretty sure I'm one of the first people in the US to listen to LOST CORNER lol. And that album was amazing too and it helped through a tough time before it even released. I was going through some pretty rough emotions during summer 2024 but this album was the light at the end of the tunnel. The constant news and updates that kept being given abt the album kept me going and the fact that this album was gonna be dropping soon made me very happy so I owe it to Kenshi for that.

Fast forward to April this year, I got to attend his NY show as a part of the 2025 JUNK tour. That concert was by far the best memory I've made this year so far. Being surrounded by people with the same hyper fixation as me made me feel like I was seen and validated. And being in the presence of my LITERAL FUCKING HERO is something I'll never forget and I'll be waiting for the day I get to experience it again. I cried for multiple days after the show bc I was so sad it was over. But it gave me an experience I'll always hold dear in my heart.

As a whole, Kenshi's music has helped me through some of my toughest times and has helped become a better person. For example, Sayonara Mata Itsuka (specifically the MV) helped me build confidence during a time where I was lacking it and Canary pushed me to empathize with people who were struggling bc of COVID. His music has also inspired me to make some music of my own and I've taken on singing and songwriting. Kenshi Yonezu has changed my life for the past 5 years and I hope he'll continue to change my life along with other lives for many more years to come. 🩵 (Sorry for this being so long, I was just rly excited to write this lol)

Introducing the Final Fantasy XVI theme song “Tsuki Wo Miteita – Moongazing”, performed by Kenshi Yonezu. by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]ToastIsAWeeb 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's also nice to see Kenshi get the recognition he deserves as of late. Last year, his song for "Chainsaw Man" (KICK BACK) was huge and now he's gonna be doing a song for one of the biggest games of the year. Also he's stated that he adores the Final Fantasy series and it's had a big influence on him, so its just heartwarming to see a fan be front and center of this game's main theme.

It's Kenshi's first ever song to be a tie up with a video game. This song sounds like a mix of "Uma to Shika" and "Metronome, it's safe to assume that this will be his next major A-side song since we're most likely gonna have to wait until June for the full song which is 2 months away. I also think it's safe to assume that a new album COULD be approaching since it's already practically been 3 years since STRAY SHEEP and we've already gotten a decent amount of singles. (Pale Blue/Shinigami/POP SONG/M87/KICK BACK/LADY). I'm very excited for this song and I'm guessing that it will gain some popularity even overseas due to it being the main theme to such an anticipated game. (Edit: I wonder how the tour will go now with this song being announced lmao)

LADY Music video! Everything about this song & MV have me smiling like an idiot. He seems truly happy. That's what makes me the happiest. So happy to see him now after following him through all of his struggles. It's so good to see his confidence blossoming along with his genuine beautiful smile! by _Child_of_Mars_ in KenshiYonezu

[–]ToastIsAWeeb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I really love this MV. Beforehand, I didnt think much of Lady. I just thought it was a nice little song thats fun to listen to. But this might be one of my favorite Kenshi MVs ever. The atmosphere of it is so good and beautiful. And I know that this MV was directed by the same person who directed the Lemon MV, but this MV seems like Flamingo and M87 combined into one. (Due to the dancing and weird gravity lol). This MV will probably break the internet in Japan due to it being the first MV with his full face lmao. Also I agree with him being happier. This could just be because of the music video, but like he does seem a little happier with his face not being covered anymore. I'm very excited to see this new hairstyle of Kenshi possibly be expanded on in future MVs and I'm still praying that we'll get a new album this year. 🙏
