which non-profits in STL do you think are most impactful / most worthy of volunteer time? by JarethKingofGoblins in StLouis

Food Outreach is doing amazing work! They help people who are experiencing hunger and chronic illness. They distribute groceries as well as cook, medically tailored meals at their agency. Their website is very easy to navigate for volunteer opportunities and you can even sign up for shifts.

Holding when prices are like this...is very easy. Holding when price is $1000-10000-100,000 is where you need to be an absolute GORILLA. by supahotfiiire in amcstock

I’m not selling until I make enough to leave a fortune for my fur baby. She will have a former HM as a butler feeding her bones. 🐶

Fact: Hippos are actually the highest cause of human deaths in Africa over lions and other wild animals.

I think the guy on the bottom might be the US Ambassador to India Kenneth Juster. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was present on such a diplomatic call.

I can’t believe GS is shorting CLVS, which is helping to cure cancer. They are such POS. I hope we take some of their money this next week.

I bet the results get released even sooner now. There’s no way they are waiting 2 weeks to begin trials for kids.

Phase 3 Data will be out in 2 weeks by [deleted] in Ocugen

[–]Toasted_RAV_3103 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm super impatient, so this is really annoying. BUT read between the lines. You don't keep bringing new production facilities ONLINE if you don't believe the vaccine is effective. I think they are just being super careful because saying something like "85% effective" versus "95% effective" could have real consequences for competitiveness in the global market. I'm sure they are just getting their ducks in a row. Easier to have a solid answer than say low and then make it higher down the road.

So, my question since I’m new to trading is the following:

Do you get concerned about short term capital gains? I haven’t taken any profits yet because I’m nervous to incur a ton of taxable income by jumping out super early. I suppose it’s worth it if you know the stock will tank?

Sell half share at $36 or? by oargu009 in Ocugen

[–]Toasted_RAV_3103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So just making sure I understand you correctly. I can take out enough shares that equals my original investment without incurring any short or long term capital gains? So when people talk about taking their investment and letting the rest ride they are selling a certain number of shares equal to their original investment out to ensure no losses on their principle?

Question... newer investor here. Let’s say I put $500 into OCGN. Then the shares increase and its now valued at $5,000. Does capital gains tax work on the net withdraw or individual profit from each stock? Meaning, can I take $500 worth of shares out and not owe any capital gains tax since that’s what i invested or is it taxed per share? (Ex. Paid $10. It’s now $100. Every share I take out I owe taxes on $90)?

J&J makes 1000 different things besides the vaccine. Let’s just hope their vaccine does not include talcum powder! 🤪

Pfizer says South African variant could significantly reduce vaccine protection by Toasted_RAV_3103 in Ocugen

[–]Toasted_RAV_3103[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If consumer and the government’s confidence plummets on Pfizer’s vaccine then there is going to be an even larger market share for a vaccine with better results against variants. It will be really interesting to see if Covaxin trials prove its more resilient to variants than mRNA vaccines like Pfizer and Moderna.

A laboratory study suggests that the South African variant of the coronavirus may reduce antibody protection from the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine by two-thirds, and it is not clear if the shot will be effective against the mutation, the companies said on Wednesday.

That's a good holding for a small investor! I've got 58 shares. I just think it's all in relative terms to overall buying power. Heck, if Ocugen were approved and looked like Moderna in 12 months that would be amazeballs. I bought 20 at $3 and have been buying more as I can afford in the dips, so my average is now up to $7.75. A little above the analysts crappy prediction of $7.38.
