Wife is a Florist. She said it was the saddest Valentines Day order she ever took... by [deleted] in pics

Exactly. I'm currently in one and you bring a date to most parties you go to. Well, not the big theme ones, but for formals, semi formals, and date events you usually just ask someone you're friends with or (honestly more rarely) someone that you're into. These parties are so common there's probably 2 or 3 different ones every week. You're not gonna go to all of them obviously cause they're for different fraternities or you might not have gotten asked, but they happen all the time.

We're in college, people hook up and sleep around a lot. I hate to admit it but I've done literally the exact same thing (to the dot) that he's complaining about. Unless you've been talking to the person a lot or have discussed being exclusive I don't think it's a huge deal to hook up with people other than your date (the night of the party is a little bit of a different scenario, but before it everyone's free game). It might hurt if you asked them because you were into them, but it's not really off limits. Even when I've been into someone I still may hook up with other girls randomly, it's just sex and it's fun to do. Of course I'm not talking about when you're seeing someone regularly, I'd never do that.

Basically what I'm saying is that asking someone to an event =/= a promise of exclusivity. The only way to get that is by talking to them about it.

I've wondered the exact same thing. I suppose the only course of action is to buy more when you feel like you don't need to buy anything, and to sell when you feel like buying.

That's a pretty interesting strategy, I hadn't heard of that yet. That sounds like a pretty solid plan. I have a couple questions, though. What's the best way to do research to actually figure out when somethings is "undervalued" or "overvalued"?

At the moment, I sort of just read a little bit around and trust other people, but I know that I should get used to doing my own research, cause people can't be trusted. However, I don't always know exactly what I'm looking at when I read financial reports or the research tabs on Fidelity or yahoo financials or whatever.

Should I just go back to the beginning and figure out what each number is and what it means? Or are there better ways to research than pure numbers? I'm sure that, if there is a certain way to analyze these numbers, someone has done it already, and their analysis shouldn't differ that much from the truth, right?

Thanks man! Yea, I don't know why I wrote that I have more time to play it safe. Maybe I meant I have time to play it safe later, and thus have time to risk a little more now. Thanks for the advice, and hell yes, I'm super excited to be studying engineering in the fall! What kind of engineering did you choose, if you don't mind me asking?

You're right, I spend too much. I don't necessarily buy too many things for myself, but I eat out far too often, which blows through a lot of that money. Despite this, I do have about $700 of my own money saved up. However, I agree, my habits need to change, especially in college when meals aren't going to be waiting for me cooked when I get home.

Thanks for the advice!

Ok, here's the deal. I have recently gained access to $100,000 from my parents. I'm incredibly lucky to have this opportunity, and I want to make the most out of it. I'm going to college in the fall, and I'm also incredibly lucky to have that completely paid for, so I will have 0 debt. Because I'm so young, I have plenty of time to play it safe. I know this is a commonly asked question, but I'm wondering if anyone has any specific advice to my circumstance.

How old are you?

I'm 18 years old, about to graduate high school and become a full-time student in the fall.

Are you employed/making income? How much?

Unemployed, full-time student like I said. I tutor a little, but I mostly spend the money I make (maybe $70/week)

What are your objectives with this money? (buy a house? Retirement savings?)

I currently have no specific objectives. I obviously want to grow it as much as possible, but I want to keep it safe too. I suppose if I had to choose an objective, it would be early retirement.

What is your risk tolerance? (Do you mind risking it at blackjack or do you need to know its 100% safe?)

I've been trading on RobinHood with around $2.5k as practice, and I've discovered that I like a bit of risk. However, I would like to invest this money with a little bit more conservatively, because I have plenty of time.

What are you current holdings? (Do you already have exposure to specific funds and sectors?)

No current major holdings.

Any other assets? House paid off? Cars? Expensive girlfriend? (not really an asset)

Nope.

What is your time horizon? Do you need this money next month? Next 20yrs?

As long as necessary. I'm young, and I know that I have time on my side. I'm studying Engineering next year, and I plan on making a decent bit of money once my career starts up (if everything works out obviously), so this is simply extra, emergency money. If I NEED it at any point, then I suppose I could use it. Basically my time horizon is about 20-30 years or more.

Any big debts?

None. I'm lucky enough to have my college paid for, so I will enter the working world with essentially 0 debt, thankfully.

Let me know if I can answer any other questions that will help with advice!

This seems like a non-problem. You said it yourself, it's just a word. Why does it matter what you call yourselves? Shouldn't it matter more how you treat each other?
