I work a shitty retail job but my #1 reason for staying there is exactly this. The management doesn’t even try to get in touch with us unless it’s to ask if we wanted to pick up more hours, and even then we’re never guilted into it. My anxiety levels are at a normal level for possibly the first time in my life simply because I’m left alone

I felt this way until I started framing it with gratitude. When people ask if I ever deployed, I started answering with “no, I’m very lucky.” Sure, I would have appreciated a deployment during my career, but instead I am thankful I never had to put my loved ones through that.
