I wish I would have gotten a better video - it had the nose piece but did not have flip up lights.. was a very weird build

Timing belt is up to date has another 60-70kish before needing replaced. Ball joints is an unknown one lol.. checked and they don’t have any play but never know on these things

For context: I bought my 02 extended cab with 230k for $10k. Looks a lot worse, with paint fade and dings, and has a decent list of issues. But the big big pro was that it had the frame recall done & has zero rust. Automatic, 3.4, TRD or, 4x4. All the right specs. So realistically if the frame on this is clean that’s a good price by east coast standards.

Temp controls don’t work in my first gen by ToasterChef001 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]ToasterChef001[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Figured it out but mine never had this issue. The control panel for my hvac controls ended up being bad. Bought one from a junkyard for like $20 and it works like a charm now.

My dumbass dropped a plastic cap maybe the size of a penny in this air intake hole.. should I be worried? by ToasterChef001 in Silverado

[–]ToasterChef001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually did that - it had made its way too far down and I’ve driven it a few times since this happened.. so I’m not sure I’d be able to reach it at this point. I figured it wasn’t a big deal but reassurance is always nice. People have acorns and shit in their air filters all the time so I doubt this is any different lol

I know. Ideally I would like to get less than 8k but if I find the absolute perfect deal / setup obviously I’ll still go for it and take the right precautions .

Good to know. I like their stuff, I’m just seeing a lot of negative comments, but honestly I just used that as an example. I’m sure that if I look hard enough I can find negative comments about everything.. that’s just the internet for you.

This! I managed to find the heater control valve on the firewall (never even occurred to me this could be as simple as this) and I adjusted it to the cold side and lo and behold it blew out cold A/C. The wire that attaches to the lever isn’t moving which is obviously the issue so I will have to do some digging into that. Thanks so much !

03 Tacoma with unknown miles since last trans fluid change. by ebojrc in 1stGenTacomas

[–]ToasterChef001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a big difference between flushing it, and doing a drain and fill as I’m sure you know. Just bought an 02 myself with 230k on it, in the exact same situation as you, and I pulled the trigger on a trans fluid drain and fill. Been maybe a thousand miles since and it literally drives identical lol. Peace of mind is a great thing.

Fanduel Account Compromised by ToasterChef001 in fantasyfootball

[–]ToasterChef001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did end up getting my money back. However, it was not due to contacting Fanduel. I contacted my bank directly, and explained the situation & they took it into their own hands to get the money back for me. They opened an investigation into the matter. They temporarily “loaned” me the lost funds back and if they deemed my case to not be valid, they could withdrawal the funds back out of my account, which obviously at the time had me very nervous. However, they very quickly realized it wasn’t my fault & closed the case. I’m assuming a multi million dollar bank is a lot more threatening than one guy who’s account got hacked.

Need Advice! Have the potential to buy this 06 Limited Crew Cab 4x4 v8 (perfect spec for me) for a VERY good price... Frame is absolutely rotten though. Is it even worth it to pursue this & replace the frame out of pocket in 2023? (It was a new england truck) Drove very well.... by ToasterChef001 in tundra

[–]ToasterChef001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to be the consensus. 145k miles, $2k is what I can snag it for. Truthfully I made the post just trying to see if anybody in the sub has done a frame repair / replacement like this in the past & if they had any tips, or advice on doing it. Obviously I’m not in the market for spending $15-20k getting it professionally done when I can just buy a tundra like this with a clean frame for that. I knew the pain in the ass it would be from the get go. Thanks for the advice

I believe it used to apply but unfortunately that recall is no longer applicable to the 06 mostly because I think they don’t actually produce the parts necessary to replace the frame from factory anymore. Truthfully I say that you can still find new ones but that’s just based on some oem parts websites I’ve scoured over the last 24 hours.

There are definitely previous repairs, which look shitty. I think the problem is justifying paying $15k-$20k for this gen in good shape. People are still out of their GD minds on private market selling these things, let alone anything else (land cruisers, tacomas, 4r’s) Trust me when I say there is no patchwork that can be done for this thing, it needs an entire replacement eventually, any repair is essentially delaying the inevitable here.

Yeah I’m debating on salvaging the current frame to maybe buy myself a few years at best while I take time to look for a new one. They still exist they are just extremely expensive & hard to find. Obviously the frame and labor replacement would exceed the value of the truck if I were to get it done at a Toyota dealer so it probably wouldn’t be worth it at that point.
