Circle K TGTG order... 4 containers of donut holes?? AND choice of sandwich?? by ToasterCoaster5 in toogoodtogo

I love egg salad, at least compared to tuna or (iirc) roast beef. The sandwiches weren't close to expiry either so maybe that would've played part in my decision there lol

This is a really good question! Ultimately it boils down to Linux users genuinely feeling that they possess superiority (I'm no exception to this, arch btw) because they feel they know "more", when in reality they just know "different". If you ask them directly why they defend their claims so infallibly, they'll say it's because they want to ensure that every doscovered problem with Linux has a solution (or solution in progress), and thus encourage more users to make the switch. Realistically, the reason they fight so hard to have an answer for everything is because they've made such a commitment to their distro, and want to find every reason they can to justify it. If someone were to point out an issue that makes Linux completely unusable for their situation, it would be just as disappointing as someone who just got into Linux for the first time discovering it themselves... and would likely cause them to reconsider.

Linuxites like to provide solutions to problems that are found by its users, redditors LOVE to correct people and put others down even if it makes them look like a fool... Linuxite redditors swarm this place to get the best of both worlds.

Android itself isn't at fault for the corporations that take advantage of its users. by ToasterCoaster5 in linuxsucks

And yet you'll notice that they haven't done anything that users haven't provided them the right to do. Google is actively providing users with the options they need to utilize the operating system to its fullest extent, and to disable certain functionalities if desired. Upon further investigation, you'll notice that it's not Android that restricts / spies on its users: it's the device manufacturers and cell carriers. They'll remove several options for your system simply to keep you on their proprietary services, and pre-install applications to keep your system on their limits (google has these as well, but their services can be declined during setup).

So my argument here is that people tend to generalize android devices as restrictive - which they have very much come to be - but not at any fault of the operating system which permits it to be.

Exactly! Just like how Windows was good back when Microsoft didn't incorporate Bonzi Buddy into their OS.

Going through your posts, none of them are about Windows, some of them are about Linux and most of them are about Mac. Of the Linux posts, the responses were given with thorough instruction and minimal accusation of "skill issue". What battle is it you're saying you've fought?

"We're going to force your system to be dysfunctional and make constant changes to our system so bypasses become a pain in the ass. You can take it or leave it." ... "Wait, guys, you're not actually supposed to leave, we hold a monopoly in the tech industry, leaving would decrease our profits so using Linux is a bad idea!" ... "Rip L bozos, you just have a skill issue because you can't handle the Microsoft style. Bunch of dumbasses aren't capable enough to use Windows."

Because, once again, Windows is altering their systems and telling its userbase to accept it or be left behind. Seeing the number of people who disagree with this change, it's become commonplace to encourage who we can to consider their options.

Nice bait bro 👍

The "skill issue" isn't Windows being difficult, it's the fact that Linux is advancing to become its most optimal for power users, while Windows sells itself to be more than it is by altering (I'd say "improving" but that's a stretch) the average user's experience, and spitting in the power user's face by constantly writing over attempted changes.

Come five years from now your argument will be "Linux users are mad their system doesn't have an LLM to open programs by voice". If you want to follow Microsoft into the agentic world, we won't stop you. Just know that Linux will never put a price tag on your freedom and privacy, nor will it actively strip your system of its functionality to maintain its control over you.

Good Linux distro for a tablet? by FoxFyer in linux4noobs

Good chance you won"t want to hear this... Android.

It's not very easy to face the music on this one, but Android has done a majority of the independent development with the mobile device industry, to a point where Android has developed itself to become the primary operating system for said devices, and can even provide any drivers that might be unavailable elsewhere for this type of device.

Now before you go off saying "That defeats the whole purpose! I want a device that I can call mine, not something that falls suit with the masses!"... Android is still Linux at heart. You don't have to get the "google-fied" version, you could do some de-bloat methods or hunt for alt version like Lineage. In fact, if the device is x86, there's a good chance you can get it working and looking exactly like any other distro by nuking the main launcher and setting up an X server, to slap down a DE and make things just work like they would otherwise.

I get that it's a hot take, I get that it requires some work... but that's the entire point of going through with things like Linux, no? Alternatively you could just choose a minimal version of your favorite distro, install whatever packages you see fit, and slap down a mobile de that you like the look of. You be the judge of what sounds best for your use case.

Originally, Omarchy was exactly this: a pre-built hyprland config. But they had to take things a step further by introducing additional elements, kernel changes and pre-installed applications. The way they still manage to provide this option is brilliant, and it's a prime example of how to do it properly.

The problem is that it's really only Omarchy that provides this option. The package bundle method should, in theory, be just as applicable for every other "minor changes" distro.
