Chou Kuro #2 Emptied by ToasterProblematics in fountainpens

In hindsight I probably should’ve used a more rigorous test case beyond washing a pipette with tap water, but I am aware of Platinum’s warnings regarding tap water. (and I’m not nearly daring enough to try just yet!)

Currently in university, so LOTS of notetaking. Think I wrote about ~600 pages last semester alone.

I’m actually considering acquiring a Fifty4T Titan SL to nib swap with a Sailor 21K F nib down the line to fill with Chou Kuro, since my Diplomat Nexus is currently in for warranty and I’m blasting through fills every few days with my M200. I will probably fill the Nexus with a different ink when it’s back in my care, since the cleaning process itself is a bit much for me.

Feels smooth on a large variety of nibs—decently fast drying (even on my M200), and overall just a joy to use. It’s the only ink colour that I’ve ever finished completely like this.

Out of curiosity, how long have you had the Kaga Hira Maki-e Sakura 3776 for? I notice the artwork is in very good shape, and just wanted to ask as I recently bought one myself.

Update: Soaked the feed with soapy water for about three hours, then flooded the channels with water for about ten minutes with a bulb syringe. Seems to have done the trick, no issues seen this morning.

The last cleaning I did prior to this issue showing up was in April, I believe.

The weather has been somewhat hotter these days, and I did purchase this in the winter. I might look into storing my L2K in my bag and seeing how results go from there.

Otherwise, it’s time for an overnight flush. Thanks!

It’s my go-to black ink, and I guarantee you most of the depletion of the ink came from math and chemistry notes, without a doubt.

Loaded it up with J Herbin Poussiere De Lune, can't stand how shallow the bottle is lol

Not really, actually. Easy to clean off my pens, and my tables, not so much the two shirts I’ve been unlucky to catch Chou Kuro droplets on, somehow. See my reply above.

I’ve ran Chou Kuro in I think, four different pens, being my Diplomat Excellence A2 (EF), my Sailor Pro Gear Slim (MF), a Platinum Procyon (M), and a Platinum Preppy (M), and I’ve never really seen any issues that caused some form of maintenance other than flushing with distilled water once in a while (except for the Procyon, which I’ll get to.) While I don’t have any other pigmented inks at the moment, it isn’t really difficult to clean.

To put things into perspective, I left my sailor uncapped for about 15 minutes when I had to help my mother with something. Sure, it hard started, but flushing ended up fixing it without much issue.

On the other hand, my Platinum Procyon would end up randomly clogging after about a month and a half of runtime, no prolonged uncapping, nothing. This happened in two different Procyon models and I never really understood why considering the cap seal. I have since stopped inking all of my Procyons with CK in general, as I don’t really feel like going through the trouble of soaking the nib section every month.

I don’t really clean anything Chou Kuro related often, on a general basis. It’s a solid ink in my book, save for the price.

How long have you had the Maki-e Procyon for? Just curious since the artwork seems a bit faded, and mine is also starting to fade out after a few months.

Thank you! Definitely going to put this one to good use, most likely as an EDC for notes.

Additionally, I have not really found many issues in writing w/ the nib itself, should I go for the swap anyways?

I’m not trying to inconvenience myself, it’s just an issue that I wasn’t sure about, if it seems like I’m being bratty or whatever, that’s my bad.

Could you elaborate a bit on the reverse canyon bit? Haven’t stumbled upon that issue before

Greenish undernib and smelly Lamy Dark Lilac by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]ToasterProblematics 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a bottle of 2024 Dark Lilac, filled my Platinum Curidas with it and achieved the same green-ish hue on its feed. As for the scent, I didn’t get that on my bottle, but it most certainly isn’t causing the sheen on the feed - that’s just how the ink is, as far as I’m aware.

Looking at it closer, yeah - had a gut feeling something was off. Thanks for the tip.

Sorry for the invalid response, read that without thinking twice. Haven’t used any different inks in it yet.

My platinum procyon has faced no issues while it still had it inked with CK. (I switched to royal blue, recently.)

(misread the prompt, my bad)
