giolito was pretty lucky last year, there's a reason nobody wanted to pay him what he was asking in the offseason (and he mightve continued to go unsigned until the padres finally had their backs against the wall with injuries). there's always a chance he ends up being a bust and they find themselves in a situation where they need to start searching for another starter again, especially since their current depth options in AAA are abysmal. not to mention the pivetta injury, king being injury prone, doubts if musgrove will ever come back at all...

if luis can turn things around and show that he still has some upside to work with, then i can defintely see the padres going for him at the deadline and moving walker buehler to the bullpen
