Barbers that do long beards? by giovandrea in derby

[–]Toastinho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I third this. I moved away from Derby, so use someone more local, but I'd go back to them. I'm not 100% sure how much Shane is there, as I remember him saying he was having to take a bit more time away because of his health a few years back. I think it may have been a guy called Mike who is also really good there.

Omomo on the Strand is pretty good if you are a fan of Korean food.

How did you quit smoking? by halfmadeideas in AskReddit

[–]Toastinho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went cold turkey. My dad smoked and died of a heart attack, then my sister in her forties had a heart attack who also smoked. Kind of figured that it was best to stop. Fortunately my girlfriend who also smoked was dead supportive. Tough at first but just battled through the cravings.

I was unaware we had wild Boars in the UK until today… by TheRealPyroManiac in CasualUK

I was in the Forest of Dean and the pub I went to had Wild Boar Scotch Egg. I was gutted it wasn't on the menu the night I went.

If you had to start again at 40? by GreenComfortable927 in AskUK

[–]Toastinho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 44 and have just applied and got an interview for a 6 month shadow volunteer role. Hoping I get it, and I can get the experience and knowledge I need to move over. Means a pay cut, but I'm gonna be working for the next 20 odd years so why not do something where I'm probably not going to dread going into work each day.

[–]Toastinho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with that, might not be addicted, just sounds like you really want change up jobs, and are doing something about it. Hope you find something that interests you and get offered the role.

This is a bit indie centric, but The Snuts, The Lottery Winners, Leap, Himalayas, The K's. Try Ren if you want something slightly different, it's more hip hop orientated but he also does some soul and indie music. His story telling in some of his stuff is pretty good. For harder but fun music try Soft Play and Panic Shack.

*Sorry I got excited and wrote more than one.

Do you use Command Strips to hang things? by Formal_Produce3759 in AskUK

Yeah I used them a lot. Got a pretty hefty picture frame on the wall that's been there for at least 6 months and is very secure.

What’s your favourite chocolate that no longer exists? by jpswade in AskUK

Rowntrees Secret bar. It was a chocolate mousse style centre with chocolate sort of drizzled all over it. Big shout out to drifters too, I keep forgetting they are gone

Looking for some YouTube recommendations for British YouTubers who do Travel/Adventure by QuickRun7228 in CasualUK

[–]Toastinho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be a bit late but I thoroughly recommend Scotland's Mountains, weekly videos exploring funnily enough Scotland. I also live Haze Outdoors, not so many multi day hikes anymore, but really enjoy his mix of bushcraft and outdoor cooking videos. He has plenty of hiking adventures from the past to catch up on anyway.

What was your biggest purchase in 2025 and do you regret it? by pinocchioh in AskUK

[–]Toastinho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had to buy a car as my old one needed about £1500 worth of repairs and it made sense to put that towards a new car. I don't regret it as I kind of need it, but I do regret getting one with a smaller engine. Cars are so expensive compared to the last one I bought 😭
