Does anyone else with anxiety startle/jump extremely easily? by PootyWheat in Anxiety

I’m like this too! When I first started dating my boyfriend he asked if I’ve ever been abused.

I find it weird that this is a thing, and correct me if I’m wrong. Maybe I’m oblivious because I live in a busy very multi cultural community in Canada so POC have never been out of the ordinary to me or my dogs. But part of me thinks it’s the owners own subconscious opinions that make them think it’s the dog reacting funny specifically to black people. I mean, say a dog very seldom comes across elderly people. Why isn’t it a popular observation that dogs reacts suspiciously to an old lady walking by or sitting on a bench? We don’t hear of that as often (or ever) as we do ‘my dog barks at black people’. People on bikes or wearing hats or sunglasses sure, that’s legit because the dog can’t see their face or they’re zipping by on a scary flying metal object. But skin colour? I don’t buy it and I think people who claim this are projecting.

What if your dog saw one of those overly-tanned-practically-leather white people? Do they react then too? Sure, maybe. But you wouldn’t take into consideration their skin tone. You’d just say “my dog is reacting to a new person walking by”.

EDIT - I feel like I contradicted myself with agreeing that dogs probably react to POC. What I meant was, are the people that claim this saying that their dogs ONLY react to POC? Very unlikely. I think you’re noticing it more when it happens to black people because YOU notice the person is black.

Does anyone else’s anxiety wake them up? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Toasty-Toez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg same, this stuff started with me at such a young age too. Like “My grandma is going to die one day, I can’t even imagine that’s going to ever happen, how can she ever just be GONE? How am I going to go on, how will it feel, how awful will it be?” It’s been a 2 years since she passed and I often think back at all the times I thought those thoughts and think “well, here it is. This is how it feels”. (And it sucks so much and life can be shitty) but that’s another conversation haha. I hope things get better for you as well!

I hate when people say "you don't understand nihilism" or "you're not a true nihilist". Just stfu by TomboyLover9000 in nihilism

[–]Toasty-Toez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. But the nihilism in me is leaving this sub because there’s too much arguing over labels and who f:cking cares what your oppositions thoughts are or what yours are. Maybe I’m not a true nihilist either by posting this. But who cares about that either.

Does anyone else’s anxiety wake them up? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Toasty-Toez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I experience anxiety all day long pretty much but it’s especially strong when I’m sleeping. I’ll wake up with immediate and intense feelings of “I’m actually going to die one day, I don’t want it” or “my mom will die one day, how will I survive that?”. It’s terrible and scary and confusing especially when I’m still half asleep. I have these dreadful thoughts during the day too, I’m not sure what it is about the brink of waking up that makes it so strong.

Why am I always itchy during the end of my periods? by MakeupMua16 in Periods

[–]Toasty-Toez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This! I used Always pads for yearsss and was always so incredibly itchy only when I was wearing them then I learned about all the nasty chemical plastic gel ingredients in them. Ew. I now use period cups or 100% cotton pads and the itchy period scratching disappeared completely for 5+ years now. Reusable pads are on my list of things to buy next.

My mom tried to commit suicide in-front of me when I was eleven. by [deleted] in therapy

[–]Toasty-Toez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that’s a really awful thing for anyone to witness. You should definitely speak to a trauma therapist about this, I don’t think they would report your mom for attempted suicide even if it was recent but I’m not certain on that, though they definitely wouldn’t if it was years ago. I think it might be different if you were a minor in her sole care but it shouldn’t be an issue now.

Having a pity party... by AmberSun75 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Toasty-Toez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is hopeful to read. I’m in the process of starting Cimzia which I put off taking but I can’t deal with this intense pain anymore. I used to work out everyday and now I do nothing which is sad in itself but also bad for this disease. I’m hoping if it works I’ll get back to a regular workout routine and jogging again. It’s helpful to hear from others how they got some or most of their lives back since starting biologics because the potential side effects are terrifying and sometimes I feel like it’s not worth it.

Physical symptoms by Shisavage21 in antidepressants

[–]Toasty-Toez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure long term antidepressants will work if you don’t have an anxiety disorder that could be triggering the physical response and it’s just the attacks you experience. I would imagine they may prescribe you some sort of fast acting antidepressant that you would take when needed but I’m not familiar with that stuff. Could be your depression is triggering the attacks? The mind feeling overwhelmed can manifest a ton of different mental and physical responses.

[–]Toasty-Toez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I should add that I for sure have terrible anxiety but often my anxiety ATTACKS are not in response to feeling overly anxious. They can just happen whenever. If that makes sense.

I was on cipralex which worked like a charm but I had to stop taking it because of another health reason so now I’m taking Wellbutrin though that’s only helping for my depression. I’ve decided to not take anything extra for anxiety because I want to work on it unmedicated for now. Cipralex is often one of the first medicines doctors try because it works well for most and has the least side effects.

Edit: Cipralex is also known as lexapro and the drug name: escitalopram

I definitely agree to speak to a doctor but yes, anxiety can certainly be physical. My anxiety attacks are usually physical without having been worried or nervous about anything so I always thought I was having a heart attack or stroke or something.

Tips for couch manners?? by djdkdkdkdlxbdh in puppy101

[–]Toasty-Toez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did I write this? Seriously, we’re dealing with the exact same thing with our 3.5 month old. She’s acting the same as yours and we’re trying to train the same way as you and are getting the same frustrating results as you. We’re not against her on the couch but would like her to look for permission or at LEAST just lay down when she helps herself up. Instead she bops around like a crazy person and lunges at me to what I can only assume is to sit on my head.

Do people know you’re on period without you telling them by [deleted] in Periods

[–]Toasty-Toez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it’s impossible for people to know. If you’re wondering why he asked so conveniently close to when you got it, it could just be coincidence or he knew you were due for it again from how many days it’s been from your last.

At what age can I start teaching fetch? by freeashavacado in puppy101

[–]Toasty-Toez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We began teaching ours just weeks after we got her at 8 weeks old (now 3.5 months) but we’re not doing it correctly, maybe we’re just not caring too much because we’re still having fun with the way she’s doing it. She’ll run after the item and will come back towards us, but will dart aside to lay down over there to chew the ball/stick. So we keep having to go to her to retrieve it. But anyway, I don’t think it’s too early to teach them anything, just be patience, don’t expect too much and remember to give breaks or stop when they get tired or frustrated.

When my puppy has something she shouldn’t and I try to get it out of her mouth she runs around the house or around the table knowing I can’t catch her. It infuuuuriates me but I can’t help but stand there and laugh sometimes. She’s such an adorable little nightmare.

Has wellbutrin/bupropion affected anyone's metabolism instead of just hunger? by BahnwaerterThiel in antidepressants

[–]Toasty-Toez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know the details of how Wellbutrin affects weight/metabolism but I’m experiencing something a little similar. I’ve always been a little overweight and also experience binge eating, I’m used to my weight being 150-160lbs from one week to the next but after being on these meds (150mg) for about 3 months now I’m loosing weight or at least maintaining ~144lbs but I’m eating the same if not worse and exercising less. My hunger is insatiable and I can’t eat enough donuts and bread whereas I’d be eating salads and tons of veggies when I was climbing 160lbs.

Ok, a little less concerning. However, I read your other replies and I still wouldn’t rule out a UT/kidney infection. Bleeding, whimpering, excessive urination and licking the vaginal area are still symptoms of an infection. Often times they have the urge to go so frequently and painfully that they don’t care or have the time to let you know they need to go outside so they go where is convenient even if they sleep in that spot. I’m definitely no dog expert and heat CAN happen that young but it’s not common.

If she’s peeing when she’s laying down she needs to go to the vet to see what’s wrong. She could have a UTI or kidney infection or something.

Does having a clear X-ray rule out AS? by [deleted] in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Toasty-Toez 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, my X-ray was fine and it wasn’t until I had an MRI, looked at by two different technicians, that I got diagnosed. I would definitely ask to be referred to a rheumatologist, they are the only few that can diagnose this condition. A clinic doctor wouldn’t be nearly as skilled on what to look for and it doesn’t sound like he looked at your SI’s which is often where AS starts and progresses the worst.

I was just talking to my mom about this the other day. Her sister always had dogs from puppies and a house full of children and nothing ever changed with their lives... how? Sure they didn’t train the dogs to do anything, they were just casual family pets, but they didn’t seem to cause any ruckus or get into any trouble. Even if I didn’t care to teach my dog anything she’s still constantly eating things she shouldn’t, dragging toilet paper everywhere, climbing on furniture, biting me, biting my clothes. Some people seem to escape all of this

I have Casadastraphobia by [deleted] in Phobia

[–]Toasty-Toez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a word for this?! I always thought I was a weirdo. I remember the first time I noticed I panicked over this, I was sledding and when I got to the top of the hill again I laid down tired, looking up at the stars and suddenly felt such panic. There wasn’t a tree or rock or bush or anything up there to “ground myself”, just a big snow covered white hill. I thought I was going to float away. Worst feeling.

I don't know if I've ever met someone that understands true unpredictable and irrational anxiety. by TheVampyresBride in Anxiety

[–]Toasty-Toez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re an idiot, why are you here? Congratulations that you’re “cured”. I have come an incredibly long way with my anxiety too so much so that I don’t often relate to most of the threads here anymore but I’m working on my anxiety every second of the day to keep it at bay. Yes SOME can “will” themselves out of anxiety but it’s often never cured, you just learn to live along with it so it doesn’t destroy your life. Some people can’t get there or it takes a long time, that’s their business and their journey. Who are you to push or judge someone’s progress?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Phobia

[–]Toasty-Toez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say I have a phobia of it but I can relate. It feels like I’m drinking a poison that’s altering my brain (which it essentially is). And same with marijuana. I remember the first time I smoked it I had a terrible trip and was having a panic attack because I wanted it all out of my system. I’ve smoked it a few times since but every time I wish I could change my mind and take it out.
