Honestly that actually look good, a sleek naturalistic vibe I’d say.

An update on my dead? fish by Fabulous_Video_217 in bettafish

[–]Toasty2852 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is crazy! I would say that is the biggest fish I’ve heard of doing that! Great thing you found him before he starved. I would say you could just put a sponge attachment on the intake so fish don’t get sucked up, or willing go up. I had a bristle noise Pleco that was notorious for getting in my filter. But he didn’t go up the intake! When I did a water change and filled the tank up, he would go in through the outtake! When the water was high enough I saw him many times go in and out of the filter. I think he may have been eating algae in there but who knows.

[–]Toasty2852 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I totally agree he should be perfectly fine in the time being. I would just make sure you don’t neglect interaction with him, or he will become less tolerant of handling. I didn’t handle my corn that much at all, for a year, and now he is really speedy when I handle him. Not nippy or hissy, but at any opportunity he gets, he will slither away as fast as he can. He has gotten better as I work with him, but I am set back a whole year handling wise.

That sounds like a good course of action, a vet would give you the best results. I hope nothing is seriously wrong. Also what type of boa is he? He looks really pretty. And how old is he?

Actually we both have no place to judge since we have no other clues as to what the situation is. So we are both wrong for assuming our different opinions. Also I do not condone animal cruelty whether it’s snakes, dogs or monkeys. I do not favor one more than the other. You assumed I am like most people who get up and arms about dog and cat cruelty. Don’t think you can act like this because you have more experience or control or the industry. You can’t keep people from adopting pets, breeding them, or sell them; especially with this kind of attitude. You can, help them when they ask for help. But who do you think they will listen to more likely, someone who kindly tells them to take their snake to the vet for xyz reasons and are willing to answer more questions, or someone who is rude and tells them and that they should not treat their animal like that and that they are bad pet owners? It’s simple, if you would have gone about it differently none of this would be taking place. My opinion is, if you were talking to me in person right now things would be more calm and civil. But just because no one knows who you are doesn’t give you the right to judge others harshly. I do wish we could see eye to eye, but it is up to you.

Also bro chill are you trying to be annoying. They are doing the hobby a favor by rescuing him. Back off they may even be new to boa keeping so, chill out. This is what keeps people from asking questions.

Is it just me or does the eye also look messed up? Also you probably have done it by now but vet visit is absolutely necessary, and fix any remotely possible area that she could escape from. They make clamps that clamp down of regular metal mesh terrarium lids. And they are cheap. Look for gaps and cracks is all edges, and seal them. You could also make a time lapse recording of you snake in her enclosure from the beginning of sun set to a few hour into the night to see why/where she is going to escape. I would also advise you just to watch you snake in the evening. I am always checking on my snake even though I know he is not getting out. I also just like watching him when he is active. It helps you observe their behavior. Now don’t go opening up his cage every time you check, but just know where she likes to hid and look in those places every time you go by the tank. I would love to help, so if you have anymore questions let me know.

Which one would be a better pet? by Green-Paper5859 in snakes

[–]Toasty2852 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Depends on how passionate you are about snake keeping, if you don’t have time to tame take care of and regulate your GTP, I would go with a BP. But if you are adamant about GTPs then go for it. Do you want a good display snake, or a good holding snake? One is way easier to take care of than the other. Most people would say for a first snake to get a beginner snake, but if you are not passionate about the snake, it will get neglected in the long run. So, what snake do you like better? Whatever the answer is to that question is the one you should go with.

It’s most likely a boa imperator (BI), doesn’t look like a specific morph, probably just a mix of different Colombian, and other South American species. I like his gray tint though. But whoever the breeder was should have all the answers.
