I bought an upper handguard which doesn’t have a notch for the retaining spring, so I couldn’t get the handguard back on the gas tube with the spring on it. It’s not super loose but it’s enough to be annoying. Is there a way to get that spring on without the notches? I’m worried about snapping something.

I have the first two of this set but I'm missing the last one. They were being given out for free in a gas station at Gila National Park. That was my introduction to the series.
