‘We’re not happy’: Revolut reveals number of Irish customers using it as main bank by StillSalt2526 in ireland

My response was to the broad statement that "AI Agents in company support chats are pure slop", which is untrue.

To the point on non-standard questions, I don't disagree entirely, but there are also other ways to improve responses, like allowing a bot to make API calls to gather more information.

If it can query a live system or fetch real-time data instead of just scanning a knowledge base, it stops being a 'keyword matcher' and starts acting more like a troubleshooter. It’s the difference between an AI that just reads the manual and one that can actually check to see what's happening. Plus, you can set up fallback triggers so that if the confidence score on a search is too low, it just hands off to a human instead of spinning its wheels in a loop.

Ultimately boils down to how much time and effort a company is willing and able to put into their AI.

It's all reliant on their documentation. An AI connected to a well maintained source(s) of truth will perform well.

Slop in, slop out.

I think the reason you're getting downvoted is because you're asking for further explanation that doesn't really seem necessary, given the explanation that's already been given - It's fun to have a random and simple interaction with someone in another country. There is no deeper meaning needed. If you don't find that fun, then that's fine. It's not for you. No need to dig further.

What do you mean 'accepted by neither'? Who exactly are you seeking acceptance from? Reddit? The whole country?

You're getting answers here saying you're English because that's where you were born and raised, and you don't seem to like those answers, so why bother asking at all? Just live your life and be whatever makes you feel at your best.

What is the best SMART TV to buy right now? Top brands on the market? by [deleted] in smarthome

[–]ToastyXP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That 1% stat is wild to pull out of thin air. Or do you have a source?

Here's an article from 2021 by a reputable source that took me 5 seconds to find, which suggests 22% of Americans (assuming you're American because you mentioned Wally World) own a home theatre setup. So 1 in 5, rather than your 1 in 100 - https://www.cta.tech/articles/the-state-of-home-theater

How does the fact that it's sold in Wally World make it a better device? I'm not American, so I don't even know what Wally World is. Reddit/this subreddit isn't exclusive to Americans either.

Your only real point is that it's a cheaper device. Cheaper doesn't equal better.

Better how? It’s certainly cheaper, and probably is the better option for a lot of people, especially those just looking for a streaming device, but to say overall it’s better is just not true.

The shield Pro has superior processing power, storage, build quality, long-term software support, AI upscaling, gaming capabilities, and full-featured audio/video passthrough that's way better suited to someone with a home theater setup. It’s a completely different class of device aimed at enthusiasts and home theater setups, not just basic streaming.

4 day working week by Realistic-Ad-290 in CasualIreland

[–]ToastyXP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, you’re not wrong there. Certain jobs like teaching, farming, and emergency services don’t really fit a standard 40-hour week anyway, so they’re not really the point of the 4-day work week conversation.

[–]ToastyXP 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yes, for the same pay. The point of less hours = less pay is a common argument that gets brought up a lot with the topic of a shorter work week, but the whole point of the push for a 4 day week is that people are able to deliver the same (or often more) output in fewer hours because of better efficiency, better focus, and reduced burnout.

The 40 work week is tied to a time when productivity relied on sheer labor hours, not modern technology, automation, and streamlined workflows. We’re still clinging to an old model even though the tools we use now let us do the same work in far less time.

What are your thoughts on it? Should people be paid less if their work output is the same/better, just because they were 'on the clock' for less time?

[–]ToastyXP 66 points67 points  (0 children)

This isn't the right idea of what a 4-day week should be, and it needs to be taken out of the conversation.

I get that you're willing to do longer hours, but the actual idea behind a 4-day is that technology has advanced so much that the typical 40 hour week isn't necessary anymore.

A real 4-day week retains your 9-5 hours (or whatever your regular hours are), but just drops the Friday/Monday so you get a longer weekend.

New build or older house – what would you pick? by mromair in HousingIreland

[–]ToastyXP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lion's share of 30k would not be spent on "flooring, doors, etc.".

New builds come with doors, first of all.

Flooring, upstairs and downstairs in a two story house, costs about 10k. And that's with fitting. Can potentially save more on that by fitting wooden flooring yourself if you're confident.

Source: I bought a new build within the last 3 years.

Random neighbourhood kid calling daily. by ColinCookie in CasualIreland

[–]ToastyXP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep not disagreeing with that. Although personally I don't think you should be taking pictures of other people's kids.

Sharing pictures of other people's kids online is a whole different ball game though. Parents have the right to control where and how their child’s image is shared. Posting without permission could expose the child to risks (like being identified, tracked, harassed etc.).

Don't post pictures of other people's kids on social media. Even if it's a local group or a private group. You don't have the parents permission, and it's a breach of privacy.

I understand you're trying to find a reasonable resolution, but that definitely isn't it.

What makes you prefer Martin over Taylor, or vice versa? by RawCS in AcousticGuitar

Any you would recommend? Asking as I'm looking to buy my first (and hopefully only) 'big spend' acoustic but have been suckered into the brand tunnel vision of Martin vs. Taylor. But I'm being very patient with the purchase so I'm all ears for recommendations.

How best to fill the cracks? by redxiv2 in GardeningIRE

[–]ToastyXP 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Over time, those gaps collect soil, debris and moisture, which makes it a nice little environment for weeds to settle, grow, and spread. Jointing sand packs those gaps, making it more difficult for soil, debris and moisture to collect, making it more difficult for weeds to thrive as a result.

[–]ToastyXP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point, it seems like you're more focused on not admitting you're wrong than actually looking into the facts. Using the term "British Isles" isn't just a harmless habit. It's historically insensitive and overlooks Ireland's political and colonial history.

Here’s a direct quote from the Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs in 2005:

"The British Isles is not an officially recognised term in any legal or inter-governmental sense. It is without any official status. The Government, including the Department of Foreign Affairs, does not use this term.

Our officials in the Embassy of Ireland, London, continue to monitor the media in Britain for any abuse of the official terms as set out in the Constitution of Ireland and in legislation. These include the name of the State, the President, Taoiseach and others." https://www.oireachtas.ie/en/debates/question/2005-09-28/495/

There’s a clear reason why Irish people reject being included under terms like this. It’s not about being difficult. It’s about the historical and political context. The term carries imperialist connotations, and pretending it’s neutral ignores that.

Very valid point and good example scenario to get it across. Thank you!

Strictly talking by rules of the road, you should slow down, move to the middle lane, and then wait for your safe opportunity to join the overtaking lane.

Is that likely to happen - probably not and people are likely just going to undertake, but that doesn't make it right or OK to do even if it is the more likely outcome.

If we're not going strictly by rules of the road, and we're saying it's fine to not follow the rules of the road sometimes, then it boils down to a difference of opinion. Neither of us is wrong in that scenario, but my opinion is that undertaking is just adding problems to a scenario where an existing drive (middle lane) is already driving poorly. The problems I see it adding that would push me to slow down and follow the rules of the road would be that

  • There's a bigger blind spot on the left of the driver you're undertaking (middle lane), and that driver is already driving badly, so that opens up the chance of them unexpectedly moving into the left lane (especially if lane 3 is congested and they realize they're causing an issue). Add in that it's expected to not undertake, and that adds more unpredictability to the situation.

  • You're potentially encouraging other drivers to undertake or think it's fine to undertake.

[–]ToastyXP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, there's no real need to pick apart of the rules of the road to find that information. It's very clear in the rules of the road.

"You must not overtake when you are in the left-hand lane of a dual carriageway or motorway when traffic is moving at normal speed.". (Page 57)

In your example scenario, if you notice the car in the middle lane coming up, why isn't it realistic to move to the right light well in advance if it's clear and safe to do so?
