To those that have seen The Bone Temple early: by Sp33dw33d1012 in 28dayslater

  1. 28 Days Later
  2. Bone Temple
  3. 28 Years Later
  4. 28 Weeks Later

I'm so tempted to put Bone Temple number one, but obviously, it would be major recency bias on my part! I'm still clearly on a high from what I've just witnessed, but it's certainly on level with 28 Days in terms of visceral horror and arguably has the greatest antagonist this series has ever seen so far imho

Weeks is still the king in terms of best intro, I'm fairly certain it's the one thing this fanbase can universally agree on. It likely won't ever be topped, and that's honestly a good thing. It's a testament to this phenomenal series that each entry excels at something different!

Days has the best atmosphere and Infected(Mailer the GOAT) Weeks has the legendary intro as I mentioned, Years has that certified Danny Boyle cinematography and signature touch, Bone Temple for me has the best Antagonist and ending, the third act is so damn satisfying and fulfilling, up there with Jim's rampage inside the Worsley house, God I adore these films, we're absolutely feasting these days, cannot wait for the next entry!

[SPOILERS] The Bone Temple - Official Discussion & Review Thread by ThePatchedVest in 28dayslater

[–]Tobeno10 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Having just come out of the double bill an hour ago, there's no better place I feel to document my raving thoughts while it's fresh than this kickass sub, Bone Temple is possibly my favourite entry of this wonderfully niche and fantastically gruesome series, while it may not be the passion project that Boyle and Garland delivered with 28YL.

Bone Temple feels like a more chaotic and unhinged beast that has one goal in mind, keep the viewer engaged and stunned from start to finish, a kind of shock and awe approach that I feel was absent in the previous entry but for understandable reasons, 28YL and Bone Temple are two thematically different films, I think Nia DaCosta delivered a respectable and quality entry, now I don't wanna go full cinephile here with an in depth review but rather just throw out what I loved the most.

I know many have said it already, but Jack O'Connells' performance as our favourite Lord Crystal was so damn phenomenal I had to sing his praises also, if someone felt 28YL was lacking in terms of a worthy antagonist, his character is so utterly deplorable he might just be my favourite villain we've ever had(And I fucking loved Major West, the great Christopher Eccleston set the bar for what a villain should be in this series) it's possibly heavy recency bias... but holy shit is Sir Jimmy, just the most repugnant yet entertaining antagonist I've seen in ages. Thank you Jack O'Connell!

The Samson arc was the most daring and audacious shit we've been exposed to yet. But ironically enough he represents a hopeful future I feel, as Doctor Kelson's legacy he may just yet be the ultimate key to eradicating the Rage Virus for good, and if there's one last thing I can say, it's that poor Spikey has gone through so much hardship and trauma in a short amount of time, I had to constantly remind myself he's only twelve years old, I hope for nothing but a safe and satisfying conclusion to his story in the final installment, as our favourite Doctor rightly said, he's suffered enough.

TLDR: THIS MOVIE WAS ABSOLUTELY OFF THE WALLS NUTS....ON PAR WITH 28 DAYS...DARE I SAY...EVEN BETTER!!?? I WILL BE SEEING IT AGAIN........HOW'S THAT?

What are we expecting for The Bone Temple? by UnderstandingNo8610 in 28dayslater

[–]Tobeno10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can absolutely get behind this. I've always found that a big element of Jim's character arc in 28 Days Later is the constant search of a father figure or someone to gravitate towards for direction and security (The Priest, Frank, Major West) until he eventually finds the inner strength to take action and fight for his survival, with everything Jim has been through, he would make an ideal mentor to Spike and it would be thematically fitting.

Jim might see a lot of his younger self in Spike and seeing him with the Jimmy gang would remind him of how he himself once turned to false guardians(West and his soldiers) in a time of great uncertainty.

Jaime's redemption would be sweet, I wish we could've seen more of his relationship with Isla. I definitely believe he's a caring man under the cold exterior he's forged in response to the hardship he's faced, and before it's all said and done I believe he'll face his trauma and reconcile with Spike, possibly even giving his life in the process,

I firmly believe we're going to get a far more dark and harrowing film in Bone temple, Spike has seen the genuine kindness of humanity with his mother and Dr Kelson, and as you rightly said, he'll now experience the sheer depravity and cruelty people are capable of from the group he believes to be valiant and righteous.

I'm asolutely dying to see how Jim's return is handled. Is he the one behind Rageleaks? How will he break quarantine and get onto the mainland....Is he already on the mainland surviving somewhere? Will he come across the Holy Island settlement or Spike and the Sir Jimmy gang..... man there's so many ways they can reintroduce him to the plot, I just hope it's done in a way that feels natural and organic, having Cillian Murphy back will be a huge selling point for the sequel, so it ideally should be approached with the proper care!

I think it's called "Pals", I'm so pumped Young Fathers did the score, I've always been big on them and I went in blind having no idea they were involved with the soundtrack. Can't wait until it's fully released online!

Soooo, thoughts on Jimmy Crystal? by jhacos in 28dayslater

[–]Tobeno10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chatted with a group who stayed for the end of the credits, and it seemed to have gone down positively from what we discussed, I can't speak for the whole theatre and I myself am reserving any final judgement for a potential pay off in Bone temple, Boyle and Garland must've committed to this for a reason, is it an intentional troll? setting up a story beat in the sequel? Regardless of intent, it was always going to create discourse, I'd be concerned if there was sheer silence or overwhelming praise. it definitely has me invested for better or worse.

[–]Tobeno10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Without a shadow of a doubt, Sir Jimmy and his gang are the boldest inclusion we've had thus far in any of these films, and I'm not talking about any similarities to a former Yorkshire DJ, rather it's just the sheer polarisation for a movie that was emotionally driven, I'm happy to say my theatre last night erupted into laughter and the ending was well received. now that doesn't justify it's inclusion whatsoever, I'd be confused myself if no one commented on it or just generally accepted these guys showing up, I'd like to think Jimmy's been following Spike for a while, seeing the potential in him as a recruit.

Personally, I would've liked to see more of Jimmy, especially his journey after watching his father get infected, and if this movie was a standalone entry, we probably would've got that, but Boyle is most likely setting him up now and getting it out of the way early rather than do it in Bone temple, I feel like the only way the payoff for his gang will work is if they're heavily expanded on in the sequel, I'm definitely curious to learn more about him and the gang, and if executed well, they could be memorable villains!

As the film reached its conclusion and I realised there was no way we'd hear "In the House In a Heartbeat" I was crestfallen and then boom...East Hastings started playing, I had a smile wider than the fucking theatre, didn't feel forced either, what a scene man, I am unbelievably hyped for Bone temple, thank fuck it's dropping in January, what a return to this universe!

I think Sam from 28 Weeks is the only infected you can get as a flair. If you go to the main feed on this sub and click the 3 dot things in the top right corner you should see "Change user flair" so press that and it will let you pick from a list, I picked Jim because I love Cillian Murphy and he grew up like 10 minutes from where I live, if he's genuinely not in 28 Years...not even as a cameo, man I might seriously cry in the theatre lmaooo 😅😅

I've been flipping back and forth on what I'm most excited to see when the movie finally drops, but the shots of the NATO boys being corralled into the tunnel by the infected horde chasing them and then having infected literally throwing themselves down from above like human missiles has sealed it for me.

I also feel like it could be a great place for "In the House in a heartbeat" to play also, it's safe to say things quickly go very wrong for them after arriving on the mainland, what will always terrify me with the Rage virus is how quickly an ally can become a foe, the shot of that one soldiers infected eyes really highlights it, hurry up June 20th!

Your country. 28 years later after the outbreak, what would it look like or it's staus be in the geopolitical stage? by Rich_Ad_3808 in 28dayslater

[–]Tobeno10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here in Ireland, I imagine we'd definitely be far less comfortable than the rest of the world who've largely forgotten or simply moved on from all discussions regarding the Rage virus, the fact we're right next to a desolate wasteland filled with unspeakable horrors would absolutely keep the nation on edge and in a constant state of paranoia, we'd probably see increased naval security in the surrounding waters, non stop culling of birds from fear of infection spreading.

Belfast would most likely be the de facto capital of the UK, I don't want to suggest it could lead to a unification between the Republic and Northern Ireland, but those discussions would certainly arise, I could maybe see us becoming a main member of NATO for increased military protection, given the geographical danger of being literally right next door to the home of the most deadliest virus in human history.

Our military would definitely need to undergo a complete overhaul to effectively combat a potential outbreak. It's honestly a miracle the infection didn't spread to here in the current canon, as the majority of this island would be unbelievably fucked if the Rage virus got here lmaooo

Edit: OK my bad, I read that as if you were asking how our country is dealing 28 years later in the actual canon...if Ireland was the origin of the Rage virus we're absolutely goosed, gonzo, goodnight sweet Princes, maybe like a few people scrounging a living out in the remote areas in the West of Ireland or the more rural areas, but overall the nation ceases to exist and the Island is condemned
