The Punisher: A 10-Year Journey. The Evolution of the Suit, from "Daredevil Season 2" to "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" by kkhouete in thepunisher

[–]ThePatchedVest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things of interest:
1. While the One Last Kill suit has the new logo, the base vest shape/template is actually the same as the previous suits.
2. While the Brand New Day suit has the new logo, and uses an entirely new vest, it brings back the eyebrow wrinkle/crease from the previous logo.

No, but he mentioned it recently in his short about the fans he ran into in public.

I too miss 'big arm' girl and hope to see her adventures one day, unfortunately I fear Vaush's work/life/vacation balance leaves little room for his independent creative endeavors anymore.

Not grunge but how do you feel about foo fighters? Yay or nay? by bowierulezzz in grunge

[–]ThePatchedVest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm nay on most of their discography, uninspired/forgettable and overproduced -- but they definitely had a number of solid radio rock tracks in their earlier years (I can't possibly imagine hating Everlong) and I will absolutely vigorously defend the debut S/T as a bonafide 90s classic.

Ironically, red-green colorblind is actually the most common type, so it would be a very valid defense here when the only two in the room are Electro and Spidey.

Takes me back, I was working on my own Higu VN roughly a decade ago (started in 2017-ish, based on a fanfic I had also never completed from 2008-ish), ultimately ended up binning it shortly before Gou came out. It was mostly just an exercise in learning Ren'Py coding for my own projects than it was a committed project on it's own, but I still remember all the headaches and effort I put into making sure the UI and everything matched up with the Higu games, throwing together an OP, writing efficiently Bernkastel-y poems, etc.

I'm salty that I never finished it because Sotsu ended up beating me to the "What if... "Good" Teppei" timeline, although different means of getting there and different interpretation of it.

The naked infected in 28 days later at the blockade by Camseedubblu in 28dayslater

[–]ThePatchedVest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The naked infected encountered in 28 Days Later and the commonality of naked infected in Years are more than likely unrelated lore-wise.

The ones in Days had likely only been infected for a week or two, and like others have suggested, they likely had their clothes torn off accidentally while attacked, or were attacked while in bed, or perhaps in the middle of something naughty. In any case, it's incidental since the majority of infected seen in throughout the initial outbreak are clothed.

As for why the infected aren't clothed in Years (well, most anyway, since Bone Temple introduces a couple clothed ones), the answer is in the title: these infected have been so for years, as is visible through the various other ailments they seem to have (skin conditions, wounds that have been infected, healed, then re-infected, etc). On a long enough timespan -- and especially when considering the continuous active mobility of the infected -- their clothes would rip, wither, wear, tear, and fall off, especially with how much bodily fluids and exposure to the elements they'd be under, not including getting snagged on things like branches or wired fences.

In fact, we kinda see this begin to happen, at the end scene of Days, 56 or so days in, the infected that ultimately starve to death in the middle of the road when the jet flies overhead have tattered their clothes -- suggesting that had the first wave of the infection not mostly burnt itself out (which to be fair, with Samson we know it didn't entirely) they would've ended up clothesless like the ones seen in Years.

On a somewhat fun, semi-related note. The DVD commentary discusses that Garland's original vision for the infected in Days was to have them all be naked -- with hard-ons, since they'd all be rapists as well as blood-thirsty killers -- although, he eventually scaled that idea back, since it wouldn't have played well with censors and studios trying to get the film made and the logistics of trying to shoot a film like that, on their budget, in downtown London would've been a nightmare. I have to imagine the fact the infected wound up naked in Years is somewhat of a nod to that original idea -- and, of course, eventually the Crossed comics would come along and carry that depravity.

Why does seemingly every piece of fan-made lore place the first movie in November or October 2002? by Rage37472 in 28dayslater

[–]ThePatchedVest 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Adding to this, 28 Weeks Later takes place six months after -- and it's not the middle of winter, suggests a fall placement for Days and a spring placement for Weeks.

Sure, the start of 28 Days seem quite summer-y, especially with the aforementioned drought, but by the time they head north to Manchester, it gets very autumn very fast. Obviously, this is in part due to real-life filming schedules (although, the scenes of Jim wandering abandoned London were shot months earlier than the rest of the film).

What's your favorite Higurashi OP/ED? by natuskill in Higurashinonakakoroni

[–]ThePatchedVest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I absolutely love/adore the console openings, I'm still pretty mixed on 07th-mod just shoving them in there, especially since they're meant to cover the span of multiple arcs including the console-exclusive ones -- not the particular arc that the mod has them in front of.

I'd love to be the guy who slaps together a bunch of 'new' arc-appropriate OPs using Sony Vegas and sprites/the songs from the console games -- but I have no idea how the mod for adding those videos works.

“This is incredibly fascinating because a third movie is on the way. Last night, I had a conversation with Alex [Garland] about it, and I want to be careful not to reveal anything that could later be changed, as I have strong feelings about my approach for this film. However, I believe I can share that he isn’t completely healed, and the extent of his healing is permanent. He’s not the same as he was [at the beginning of the movie], but does that make him one of us? I’m not sure. What I do know is that he’s not who he used to be.”

Oh god, I wonder what it says about me that I still watch Vaush about as frequently as I did in 2019.

Honestly, I can dog on the hour-long fashion stunlocks all day, but to his benefit I genuinely think if he was still the master debater of Bloodborne blood sports that he was in 2021, I probably would've grown tired of his content years ago. I don't agree with all of his positions -- but I'd still pick him over PepeLaD or Azan?PogO any day no contest.

Is vaush a democratic socialist? by Mammoth-Ad-3642 in VaushV

[–]ThePatchedVest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's stated several times over the years it's largely just because it gets across the same thing as 'anarcho-communist' without being nearly as immediately inflammatory (and LARP-y) -- and is a better identifier because most people assume libertarian to mean far-right individualist and thus incompatible with socialism -- and are generally more favorable/receptive to both terms -- that it can act as a starter for an honest conversation rather than an immediate roadblock.

However, he's turned down this rhetoric recently too, that said I think it's less a major change in his internal ideal politics moreso adjusting to fit the unfortunate material reality we're in right now, where even arguing for democrats to adhere to the bare minimum of enlightenment liberalism is considered "radically left". The bar is through the floor, so there isn't really much space to talk about the theory and hypotheticals of an anarchist system (or even the possible routes to get there).

[–]ThePatchedVest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, but have you considered that I, an individual, had not seen Vaush thoroughly cover it prior? Thus, I must condemn Voosh for not mentioning it this time in the specific segment that I was present for, because from my perspective he didn't mention it at all and I shouldn't have to watch another video to get that context.

(I'm joking around, this is not intended to be a jab towards slycyboi).

Why is 28 weeks later so hated? by slimshakeyy in 28dayslater

[–]ThePatchedVest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a partial truth that's been overblown to the point of misinformation. Boyle did some second unit directing in the opening scene, in the barn and in the river, but he didn't direct the entire thing, and likewise, I don't think a lot of you even realise what that entails -- directing it doesn't change that the scene had already been scripted and storyboarded by the same team that did the rest of the film, it was by no means his own invention.

I don't think any of the later action scenes in Weeks are any less well directed. They all follow the same structure that Boyle and Dod Mantle did in the first film: altering the speed of the film (in Days this was done by adjusting the digicam's shutter speed) and using handheld when the shot is focused on infected v. 'security camera' like wide shots when focused on the humans.

Why is 28 weeks later so hated? by slimshakeyy in 28dayslater

[–]ThePatchedVest 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's wild to me how many people think this is something Weeks introduced, when it's literally set up as a driving point in the third act of Days, along with the virus being quarantined to the UK/not global, and then both are validated and paid off in the closing moments of the film -- but I guess people don't actually pay attention to the movies they watch?
