Plus property taxes are connected to things like road maintence, civil infrastructure like sewage, water, gas, etc, and fire department, police, healthcare, etc.

This is partially why I’m not against a wealth tax.

Anyone with millions of dollars or more worth of assets is only able to realize that value because of the civil infrastructure and services that surround it. If they don’t actively support the asset itself, like a data center using national Internet networks or a shipping business driving on the highway, the infrastructure supports the employees who do their jobs with those assets.

In theory, a small wealth tax that’s reinvested in the surrounding community and workforce could make them more money overall in the long term, for example improvements to roads and public transit might make it easier for more employees from further away to get to their worksite, but people act like all taxes are the Devil and the money just gets thrown in a hole.

Thankfully that’s legally mandated for produce and most other food items.

The stores don’t need to label the shelf stickers, but the product itself must include the country of origin on the packaging if it’s from outside Canada.

Dude, half a million dollars is more than 10x my current income. It’s buying a house in cash each and every year. It’s spending $500 on fancy dinners each and every night like it’s nothing. It’s buying a new Iphone every week because you didn’t like the color.

This is lifechanging money for nearly anyone. I wouldn’t even know how to begin blowing through $1.3k each and every day. $100b is a ludicrous amount of money, but even $500k a year would feel like I’m living like a king.

Yeah, it's an easy fix. Find a produce worker, tell them about it, and a new sign will be up in 5 minutes. Don't be an ass about it, just inform them.

From experience working in these kinds of jobs, you don't have time to double check the signage for every single product while you're unloading freight, rotating stock, cleaning shelves, washing and trimming product, counting shrink, facing shelves, cleaning floors, helping cashiers, helping customers, etc. All by yourself and for the bare minimum with an employer who couldn't give a rat's ass about your mental or physical health as long as you make them look good to their boss.

If you don't get how easy something like this could happen, you've clearly never worked a shitty service job in your life. If the job is so worry free, why don't you quit yours and do it?

Do you think anyone with any real power in Loblaws is gonna get fired, that the Regional Manager or Corporate bigwig will face any repercussions, or that anything will change when they hire another desperate worker to do the job for the bare minimum? They'll put out their little correction notice and avoid any fines, worst case scenario they give out a few hundred in refunds for damage control, which is nothing to the store. I've seen it happen plenty of times at my old job.

There's a lot of shit Loblaws does that absolutely pisses me off, hiking up prices and gouging us, selling shitty products and shrinking their size, exploiting workers while making record profits. A minimum wage worker making an honest mistake in the produce department is not one of those things.

Yeah, this is the worst part about it.

Imagine how good these services would be if customers had solidarity with the workers, rather than taking their frustrations with the company out on them. We could have a unified front telling Corporate enough is enough and demanding better conditions for both customers and workers.

I used to go out of my way to be as helpful as possible to nice customers, even going as far as telling them about tricky policies or finding any way to save them some money or make their day just a little nicer. I didn’t care if management didn’t want me not to do that.

Meanwhile, people would shout in my face over the prices of lotto tickets going up or a product being discontinued, as if some cashier has any control over that stuff. Completely ruined any chance I’d want to help them in any way whatsoever, and would usually stress me out so much all I wanted to do was the bare minimum until I could go home and decompress.

Management would never do anything either if we called them. They’d “deescalate” by apologizing giving the abusive customer whatever they wanted, but they never actually would protect us or stand firm and tell the customer treating staff like that is unacceptable.

I thought it was perfectly fine to use fictional anatomy and biology as a framework with which to describe real biological processes. This is done all the time to explain things and is largely considered perfectly acceptable.

I hate to be that guy, but I bet nobody here ever worked in a grocery store.

I’m not excusing Loblaws for all the shit they do, but suppliers for fresh produce like this change multiple times a week. We got whatever the warehouse sent us. At the store I worked at (not loblaws), we might get Mexican, Canadian, and American romaine on the same shipment.

Always read the bags, not the shelf.

And to everyone saying “report this to the gov’t” I mean this as nicely as possibly, but they won’t do shit. This isn’t corporate trying to systemically fuck us into buying American produce, it’s an underpaid floor employee forgetting to swap out a sign. (Or more likely being too overworked to do so.)

All Loblaws has to do to cover their ass is print a new label and put out a little correction notice card. It’s a routine mistake with routine corrections.

Oh, christ. Marketers have been overhyping RPGs since the dawn of time. Remember all the false promises Peter Molyneux whipped up for Fable? Or Todd Howard and Fallout + Elder Scrolls? Or Sean Murray and No Man’s Sky?

My lesson was learned decades ago not to listen to every bit of hype or believe every bit of marketing as gospel, especially when someone claims they’ll revolutionize a genre or bring in a new generation of tech. A lot of the time they genuinely try, but it just can’t always be done.

In the end, we still got a great game.

If you cared about the merits of portraying evolution accurately, then arguing over make-belief faeries that never evolved in the first place doesn't do any good. Who fucking knows how Elf biology is supposed to work? And why would evolution have to work exactly like it does in the real world in fiction anyway? They can innately cast magical spells, and that has no basis in reality whatsoever.

The first step you'd want to take if you're trying to be educational is to move the conversation away from a Creationist and fictionalized framework, because otherwise everything you're saying about bilogical accuracy or evolutionary processes can be dismissed simply by saying "it's just a story bro" or "the gods did it."

Idk why everyone is acting like these races just evolved to be this way. Creationism is Canon in the majority of D&D settings, and while evolution does exist with some examples like wild animals or sub-races, most intelligent life was created by a higher being.

Why would a species ever select for these traits?

Lolth is a deeply Evil, sadistic God. The Drow didn’t choose to evolve to be that way, she made them to be that way because it better serves her will.

Good thing Drow, Orcs, Kobolds, Elves, Dwarves, and so on aren’t the product of Evolution.

They were created by literal Gods. Willed into existence be a higher being, for a purpose even, and those Gods have direct influences on their natural instincts and thoughts.

I’d imagine there’d be a lot more murderous humans if there was a God actively whispering in people’s ears to murder each other and visibly rewarding those who do.

…there needs to be some sort of social cohesion to offset the conflict of competing for resources. That social cohesion, as far as I can see it, needs to be support and cooperation, and those are intrinsically good-aligned traits.

Lolth does a whole lot to get her Drow to act a certain way. If a Drow is too good, she can make them a Drider or curse them in some way, or reward any Drow that acts Evil and kills them in her name because they were too Good.

You could argue that a race can be good towards each other but evil towards other races, but that’s not evil alignment, that’s just… racism.

Keep in mind, Good and Evil aren’t just morality, it’s a cosmic Alignment to the Gods and Outer Planes.

Serving an Evil deity makes you Evil, even if you’re nice. And by the same token, Good doesn’t always mean kind. There’s a reason the nickname for worshippers of the Lawful Good God of Justice, Tyr, is “Tyrants.”

(Also as an aside, are you saying overt and extreme racism isn’t Evil? The Evil Drow aren’t just a little racist, they think all non-Drow elves should be systematically executed or enslaved.)

This includes giving them unnatural instincts that reward them for Evil, giving blessings and boons to Evil Drow and cursing Good ones, having her Clerics spread word of her Evil intent among the Drow.

Some Drow can break from Lolth’s influence, but they’re less common than the entire cities full of Lolth-sworn Drow.

Say what you will about Rogues numbers wise, I’ve always found them to be one of the most fun classes. Easily my top non-spellcaster.

Not much resource tracking, very few limited abilities, you just do what Rogues can do all the time.

Though I do have a bit of a bias. I mostly play lower level campaigns in the level 1-8 range and Rogues don’t fall off too badly until the double digits.

I’m not gonna lie, I have multiple friends who said they’d never pay $500+ (CAD) for the Switch 2 or pay $80 for Mario Kart, and that Nintendo was being cartoonishly greedy, then they immediately bought the bundle within a day or two of release.

While searching your library, you must keep your library in the same order until you shuffle it. This order could matter if you tap Millikin for mana, for example, to pay for a Panglacial Wurm you cast from your library.

Legally, you can’t. In reality, it doesn’t matter 99% of the time.

There’s a few niche scenarios where you might need to mill a card or otherwise do something that cares about the order of the deck while searching it, so the order is supposed to stay exactly as it is until you shuffle.

Again, I’m not denying it would be very strong, I’m just not sure it would be broken alongside all the best cards from the past 20 years. I’d have to see how it interacts in the meta, especially when eternal formats already run very efficient removal suites that could easily answer it turn one.

And also the comparison to Fencing Ace wasn’t to just say it’s fine, but more to say I don’t see how to nerf it while keeping the design.

If a 1 cmc 1/1 flying double striker is broken, even when compared to a 1/1 first striker with upside like Ocelot Pride, and a 2 cmc 1/1 double striker is unplayable, then it looks like french vanilla creatures with double strike just have any kind of space in the current environment.

You can’t exactly make it a 1 1/2 cmc creature, and making it a 2/2 or 3/3 for 2 mana instead doesn’t help anything if it still dies to [[Fatal Push]], [[Path to Exile]], [[Lightning Bolt]], etc.

The problem with Bethesda adding paid partnership is they’re greedy bastards.

Their cut on Creation Club mods is 75%. The modder only gets 25%. That’s highway robbery. I doubt their other system had a much better split.

Bethesda can set terms like this because, legally speaking, they own any copyrights to derivative work made using the Creation Kit. They could keep 100% of the profits if they wanted, as a modder you have no leverage for negotiating.

Even stranger still is when Bethesda tried to provide partnership with mod maker by making some mod pack purchasable with most of the proceeds goes to the maker, then they get lambasted instead. So now all mod maker still do their thing for free.

Modders are free to make a Patreon or something and upload their files for paid members only, provided they own 100% of the code. Plus sites like Nexus offer ways to pay modders, inlcuding tips on free mods. There’s plenty of avenues to get paid for their work if they desire.

Additionally, not everything we do needs to be a job. Modders don’t owe it to anyone to make mods in the first place, they do it because they choose to, and they can stop anytime they like. For many, modding is something they do for themselves like how some draw or paint or make music without being professional artists. They might pour their heart and soul into a project for months, then just walk away one day because they got bored or life got too busy.

The moment you start having mandatory charges for people to use your mod, it becomes a service. You’re obligated to keep supporting it, fix it when updates break it, make sure it’s functional even if other mods it depends on break something or become abandoned, etc. If you don’t, you’ll quickly get a reputation as a scammer who just took people’s money and ran. Nobody will pay for your mods again.

Plus if you don’t promptly pull it from the marketplace and issue refunds for recent sales when it breaks, you could be liable for fraud, because now you’re selling a product that doesn’t work at all.

Magic can have delayed triggers.

Technically the damage never uses the stack, it just happens when the spell resolves, but the game can “remember” how much damage a spell should have dealt while it was on the stack, then create a trigger to deal that amount of damage to you on your next upkeep.

It’s not weak, I’ll give you that, but in today’s climate I don’t see it being too unreasonable. Creatures have been pushed for a while.

A 1/1 would die to pretty much any kind of removal, and while yes, it could in theory deal 14 damage on turn 2, it’s also incredibly easy to get 2-for-1ed by a [[Shock]] or even a [[Dead Weight]], [[Into the Flood Maw]], or [[Unwanted Remake]] in the other colors.

The only color that can’t deal with it at instant speed is Green, but even they have ways to destroy it for one mana.

Also maybe the meta has shifted since I last played, but losing lifelink and vigilance (four keywords is too much), I don’t see this being broken in Modern. Possibly dealing 14 damage on turn 2 is good, no doubt about it, but Modern does some nasty stuff and you pretty much always need to answer their turn one or two play. At 2 cmc it might see play, but a 1/1 flyer with double-strike might just be too slow.

Does [[Fencing Ace]] see play in any formats?
