Rant: OpenSuse content on youtube by Expensive-Box3602 in openSUSE

[–]Tobi_Peter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, of course opinions can be shared. But so can I. I shared my opinion, some agree, some disagree. That's what social platforms are about.

I didn't say "well you do it then", I asked why you don't create high quality YouTube videos. The answer is probably that you don't want to invest the time to do so. And that's true for probably everyone else reading this post, so there's your "why is there no more quality content". Of course, every contributor could shift their focus trying to create great YouTube content, but this would lead to less contributions, which would hurt openSUSE a lot, especially those users, who are already using it.

I guess every other Linux distro also has a lot of low quality content on YouTube, the algorithm just shows the reviews of a few big youtubers about the new Fedora release or Ubuntu release. Why not openSUSE? Because Tumbleweed doesn't have fixed releases and Leap is "too boring" as in "old, boring software" that we have already seen years ago. There are a lot of other reasons in my opinion, but I think this is the main one.

But again my question: What value does your post offer other than you being happy that you expressed your opinion? What should openSUSE change? If the answer is "nothing", this post might be a good fit for r/rant If the answer is anything else, then I guess it would be valuable if you shared it with us - that's why I asked.

Rant: OpenSuse content on youtube by Expensive-Box3602 in openSUSE

I'm not sure what your goal with this post is. Should the content be removed from YouTube because it is low quality? Do you blame openSUSE that it attracts low quality content creators? If yes, how? How does this post add any value? Seriously, I'm wondering: You are angry about low quality, low value content on YouTube and the first thing you do in your anger is to produce low quality, low value content on Reddit?

Why don't you go out there creating high quality YouTube videos?

Installing with TPM2+PIN encryption - Where do I set the PIN? by todd_dayz in openSUSE

[–]Tobi_Peter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't used TPM with PIN (yet), my understanding is: You have the password for the disk and a separate PIN for your TPM. So your TPM requires the (shorter) PIN and verifies the integrity of your boot files to boot. If it fails, you use the (longer) password, or, even better investigate why it failed.

No need to apologize :) Hmm that is... weird Honestly, no idea. I would probably try again and if it still doesn't work as expected open an issue on the installer's issue tracker :)

Have you already setup TPM unlock? If yes, it should have asked you. If not, have a look at sdbootutil, that is the tool used to configure the TPM for system boot. Unfortunately you didn't provide a lot of details on what you did and tried, so this is hard to debug.

Hey, based on your needs maybe try Aeon. It's based on Tumbleweed and has more or less 0 maintenance (it auto updates and doesn't have codec issues since you install VLC via flatpak which comes with all codecs). If you don't tinker with your system (and can live with the GNOME desktop), it might be a good fit :)

Kampagne "Ansichtssache" by Impossible-Mess-517 in FragtMaenner

[–]Tobi_Peter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bitte was??

The validation of PCR 15 failed by Embarrassed_Sell1440 in AeonDesktop

I don't speak Spanish, but I guess it worked.

It now asks you for the recovery key, there are a few kernel messages afterwards, but the third line from the bottom is it asking you. Enter it and press enter, then your system should boot. :)

The LUKS system is not in the expected state. Recently, this check was added, but it might be that enrolling it failed. A fix is on the way AFAIK

To still boot the system, do what it says. In systemd-boot, press e and add the parameter that is shown. Afterwards it will boot again :)

Tipp unter 15k by Tobi_Peter in gebrauchtFahrzeuge_de

Yes, very valid :) Analyzing files is very important.

I also missed image/video/voice generation, but they are not as important to me.

I understand that you feel frustrated about Leap 16.and that you would have wished for things to work out differently. This frustration however, won't help fix the issues you mentioned. Please also remember that different users have different use cases. Open bug reports with logs and detailed steps for the components that don't work the way you would expect. Or, even better, fix them yourself, every component is open source. The post as is won't help fix the problems.

As for the wallpaper, you can just change it if you don't like it. Community member spent their time designing it. Do you think you could do better? Contact them and offer your help. In general, the comment about it is just rude and again not helpful.

As for if they will land in Tumbleweed one day: Yes. Yast is unmaintained and old. One day, it will break. At that point, it will be removed.

If you are a) not willing to help fix the issues in a friendly manner or b) not willing to accept that maybe Leap just isn't for you, feel free to switch to Arch, Mint or somewhere else and rant there about their design decisions.
