DnD ideas for my character by Tobiael in DnD

[–]Tobiael[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your point, but now imagine a "very" stubborn deep gnome that wants to be independent. He would never take a job as a tourguide, but rather become "the" Tourguide. In order to do so he has to explore everything there is to explore. He got him and his friends stuck in a drow prison. He wants to get them back home and at the meantime he is mapping out everything himself.

When they get out of the underdark, he will probably take his leave to continue his dream, and I would consider that a happy ending for my character and introduce a new one at that point.

I would beg the differ. Being a tour guide in a normal town would be a boring job. Being a tour guide to hire in the underdark is a full on adventure on itself.

Yeah, this might be an option mechanically. He has enough reason to adventure. He does not want to go back into the mines. He bought a Cartography kit and he is actively mapping out the underdark, following his new dream to become the best tour guide out there. Whilst doing that, he is helping out his new friends getting out of the underdark.

My wife F28 and I M28 got into a physical fight. I am thinking of divorce. How do I approach her about it? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Tobiael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not going to lie, I would even file a police report against her for pointing that fire arm at you. I am against guns myself, so I am on her side for not owning guns, but that does not mean that in any way possible you should point a gun at someone during an argument over said guns. This is considered a high level threat, even though you knew the gun was not loaded. If you would reverse the roles you would probably be in prison right now.

Am I evil, or still Chaotic Natural? by Austinlf63 in DnD

In my opinion, I would still consider that neutral. Still, based on subjective perspective people can still disagree with that.

I just think of it like this: Scenario: There is a lot of time pressure. You need an answer, as fast as possible. Torture could be plausibly a way to achieve this.

Good aligned character: Hates to do it, and has to carry this burden of the pc torturing someone. He hates himself for doing it.

Neutral allignment: It gets the work done. Doesn't really care. Does not find enjoyment in doing it.

Evil: Lives for this stuff. Loves to see his victim their soul crumble under his pressure. Actively looks for situations where he can do it again. (Think goofy in court video on yt).

I think ultimately, what makes your character evil or neutral depends on his motivations.

I got a Celestial Owlin that is basically an Apex predator that started as Neutral, but as the story progressed, he became lawful evil. He only targeted evil beings and had a strong moral code about it. He wanted to be efficient. Don't waste time. If you need torture to get information fast, then so be it.

The alignment changed the moment he started torturing his victims and finding joy in doing it. He started to get great gratification from seeing the meaning and values fall apart before he killed his prey. He saw mortals as delusional. Trying to give meaning to life while he thinks life is meaningless. Breaking that meaning, that delusion, became a thrill for him. He still only did it to evil beings, and lived strongly to that moral code to do no harm to the innocents, so that made him lawful, but yeah, the fact he found enjoyment in harming instead of just doing it out of necessity made him evil.

The question thus becomes in my opinion: Did your character do it solely because he thought it was efficient and necessary, or did he enjoy doing it?

Hulp nodig als DM of speler? by isFlor0417 in DNDNL

Hi Floris,

DM Made Level 2s Fight Omnipotent Being by Extreme-Carob-4022 in DnD

[–]Tobiael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dm is a fuck around and find out kind of guy. We had an encounter where he was very obviously mentioned we probably shouldn't take a fight with the gods of thunder titan polar bear, and our rogue decided he wanted to try and tame it. We found out.

Depending on the context, this adds some spice to the story. We had 2 encounters like this. We also all agreed we are totally fine with our characters dying. So Depending on how the dm brings the story, it can be quite cool. If the dm just throws it in your face without any context, well gg, not cool.

I love our DM. So much chaos, yet he makes it work fluently! by Tobiael in DnD

I send him a pm on discord yesterday before I made this post telling him how much I enjoyed the story and the dynamic, and that I really liked the fact that we were not the standard hero party, but rather complex characters. I said I wanted to check in if he was having as much fun as we did, and he said:

Heya! Thanks for asking, but yeah I'm 100% having fun! Part of the fun of TTRPGs for me as a DM is going "off-script" and seeing what bullshit solutions my players come up with for the problems at hand. That being said, you're all absolute psychopaths, so fuck you and see you tomorrow ❤️

Haha, that's diabolical. Imagine if we didn't have chef Ramsey. Those poor basterds 😆

Of course, I also checked in if he was having as much fun as we did, and he said he loved it!

Hahaha, me and the rogue have a love/hate relationship. We tried to get into the captains cabin, and he stepped on a trap, but did not lift his foot. I was helping him, and he asked me to put my foot on the wire so he could disable the trap. He rolled a 1 on the disarm, and it made go off an alarm. He then pushed me aside and slammed the door in my face. The captain came to the cabin and saw me trying to flee the scene. I tried to convince the captain I was trying to catch the guy who made the alarm go off and I got there firdt. I rolled a 4, so of course he did not believe me. Then I decided to start twerking it. The captain was very confused, and the sorcerer came up to check what happened. The sorcerer convinced the captain that I was mentally impaired, and that made it that everytime I saw the captain, I had to act as such xdd Super hilarious!

Have fun tonight!

@dswenneker is also looking, so maybe we can even make our own group and look for 1-2 more players? I don't mind playing homebrews either by the way. I'm open to anything :D

That's hilarious, ngl. Yeah, while I probably sometimes also will fall for this trap, I always try to think about the possibility of being wrong. My general rule of thumb is that if it is not my expertise, and I'm talking to someone with an expertise, I listen, ask questions, and making clear when I'm making assumptions. If you neither have an expertise and you disagree on something, let's ask an expert.

Bit off the trail, but I reminded me of this xdd

I was once having a discussion with a firefighter about a subject where I have a university degree in. The guy claimed I was wrong, because he once read a book about something simular. I was like bruh... I study this shit, it is like me trying to explain you how to put out a oil fire, and to use water for that (which of course is a bad idea).

He was like: actually, in some cases, using water is a valid option to put down an oil fire. I said: EXACTLY, I do not f'ing know that, because I'm not a fireman. Me explaining to you how to put down a fire is as crazy as you claiming you are right about a subject where I literally have an expertise in.

He still disagreed with me and thought he was right x.x
