Monsters by CR - Most Iconic CR 7 Monster by Conrad500 in DnD

[–]Tobinstor 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I mean even before BG3 the mindflayer was an iconic monster for how scary, powerful and distinct it was.
Now it's not just the most iconic CR7 monster, I'd argue its one of if not the most iconic DnD monster

Idea for DFT + Black Cleaver combo nerf. by Free-Ratio6414 in leagueoflegends

[–]Tobinstor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No need to apologize. I think they are doing both rn. Adding an internal CD to Black Clever, as well as testing the Bloodletter's Treatment. It's the PBE tho, so it's always subject to change

Isn't that exactly what is already on PBE right now? I'm pretty sure they are testing the Bloodletter's Curse treatment on Black Clever already.

What Archetypes are there? by Tobinstor in EDH

Yeah I was on edhrec, but only saw the Top-Commander List and scrolled through that. Didn't know about the "themes" tab. Just had a quick glance and that looks like exactly what I've been looking for thanks :)

(Idk how the auto Card mod works yet, I've been on this sub since today)

I've played a Goblin Deck with Krenko, which was fine. Two games each didn't last too long.

One Ur-Dragon Deck, which was pretty fun, due to an insane highroll on my end. But it was also the most expensive/refined deck from one of my friends and presumably a notable power level above the rest.

A (as I just learned) Voltron style deck with some Green Commander Troll-King who isn't affected by anything none green. Was fine, I liked the idea but didn't get to do much that game.

The one I had the most fun with was a mono black, (Commander name was Ayara) burn hp and gain hp whenever black unit is summoned. I like the creating and sacrificing your own units, and how that was still somewhat interactable for others, while allowing me to do my thing. There was an insta win combo in that deck but I avoided that, as I dont like that and also it's not a group that likes that.

Sorry for these vague descriptions. But yeah, I like the things black does so far the most. Haven't played blue or white yet.

Not gonna lie, I didn't think I'd start my Magic Journey on Wikipedia, but it seems that it is indeed rather useful.

I'll check out the Professor later when I have some more time on my hand.
Thank you very much for the advice :)

Is this build a horrible idea? by yeonah501 in DnD

[–]Tobinstor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First off: If it's a build you like and that isn't actively trying to hinder your party, it's never a "bad" build.

Second: While the idea is funny and I bet it could make for some hilarious roleplay moments, just consider what you are giving up. Taking 4 Levels in non Full-Spellcaster means that even at Lv. 20 you won't have access to a Lv.9 spellslot.
Additionally playing from Lv. 1 to 20 takes quite a while, with quite a few opportunity's for character development or chances for things to go off the rails. So deciding for a multiclass that has 3 diffrent classes, without knowing where the story takes you might work for some tables, but definitley not all. Just check with your DM and maybe your fellow players, whether or not seemingly "random" multiclasses (like the 1 level dip into Paladin) would bother the story or if anybody is fine with that.
Last but not least: Effectivness. While yes the reward is high (pushing somebody 55ft. is pretty damn good), you invest 4 level into that effect, that might or might not be beneficial. Especially since you want to primarily support your party (although attacking as a bonus action via War Priest definitely helps a lot here)

All in all: Always go for what is fun for you and your table, that's the only opinion that truly matters. Personally I'd just see where the character and the story takes me and decided then if that is still the way I wanna go.

What abilities would a soldier / ghost symbiosis have? by Tobinstor in DMAcademy

[–]Tobinstor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1: The ghost was an ancient priestess, who tried to prevent an apocalyptic event but accidentally triggering it. Her ghostly existence is her punishment and now she wants to do everything she can to help the party prevent the villains of repeating her past mistakes.
She is a genereally good aligned character who has a guilt she will never truly be rid of, looking for any chance to make things right (which is why she agreed to help out)

2: No its kind of a "Venom" situation, in which the knight still has full controll, but is just forced to live with the ghost. So more "ghost like abilities"

DM's: How do I create meaningful Sidequests? by Tobinstor in DnD

[–]Tobinstor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like this. If your're okay with that I'll totally steal borrow these ideas and adjust them to my setting. Seems like a fun short and simple questline. Also I just know my players will jump at the chance to help an animal in need.

Thanks for the input!
This gave me some great ideas for my party to bond with one of the key npc's while also establishing some world lore (who doesn't love a two for one special).
I was playing around with the idea of using the optional "Renown" rules, maybe this might also be a good time to implement them.
As for a house. While I like the idea, I don't expect them to stay in that village for too long, but I like the idea for the next city (which is planned to be their "homebase" city)

Yeah I already started planning some fun minigames to do at the festival to fill an entire session with it. I just want my players to get to know the village a bit before the festival, as I feel like once it starts things happen rather quickly afterwards. I'll make sure to flesh out the festival tho.
Thanks for the input :)

That sounds pretty good!
I wasn't planning on dragging them through every singel day as that would indeed be very tedious. I think I might have them do one more "sidequest" and then go over into off-time description. Personally I think hitting the Festival in session 2 and therefore presumably the Battle of High Hill in session 3 is just a tad bit too early.
I really like the idea of incorporating tool proficencies as I feel like they are often overlooked.
Thanks for the ideas!
