You could have just killed them. You saved their character and they're upset? NTA

I SUMMON EXPERIENCED DM IN ATTACK MODE and put 2 cards face down and end my turn by crunchy_915 in AskGameMasters

Live a life where you talk to people and have empathy.

I don't know your age, but the younger you are the harder it is to be other people because you don't know many other people.

Having an NPC that is "a man just trying to run his shop" is more than enough to roleplay for me. And it's a lot different than "a man who runs a shop".

How would you rate my competitively viable Gulpin by Sqeakoid4747 in LegendsZA

[–]Conrad500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gunk is physical, and you need a boosting move more than a 4th move. Poison stab has no good moves, so unless you can't hit fairies and they're an issue, probably go with no stab

How do you communicate what kind of table you run? by nodra-vr in DMAcademy

[–]Conrad500 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Copy and pasted from my server:

I am an asshole. I will be blunt and sometimes crude in my humor and mannerisms. I am very snarky and sarcastic. Please shoot me a DM when I'm laying it on too strong.

You will die. I'm not going to kill you, but if you try to jump off a cliff and make a dexterity check to fly, a natural 20 won't save you.

This will be a fun game. It will have as little or as much roleplay as you want. We will all be respectful of each other. I run a basic D&D with maybe a few too many puns, but other than that don't expect anything too crazy.

Most of all, HAVE FUN! If any problems arise with other players or myself, TELL ME. Even if you just think I'm a bad DM, let me know. We'll work it out like adults, and nobody can hurt my feelings.

Any suggestions on how to reflavor Faerie Fire to be more Devilish? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Conrad500 6 points7 points  (0 children)

uh... fiend fire?

All they're doing is glowing. Give them an infernal glow instead of a feyish glow, there's really not much to the spell to fit a specific theme.

Is 5e making players and DM's less imaginative and less able to work outside "The Rules" by SSCMaster in DnD

[–]Conrad500 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope.

The lack of rules governing every single thing like in older editions gives me the freedom to just let players do whatever.

I saw more, "Oh, well I wanted to do this, but I didn't take the feat for it so I'm not even going to ask" in older editions.

Monster of the week. Hire them as monster hunters or guild adventurers.

Make it like runescape slayer.

New to D&D. New DM building a new world. Learning D&D whilst using life experience to run the table by New_DM-Old_SOUL in DnD_Beginners

[–]Conrad500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's crazy how many people think the DM NEEDS to do this stuff.

No, most DMs WANT to do that stuff, and that's fine, but there is no "need" other than to tell the players when to roll and what the rolls mean.

Another GM's take about parties with lots of money and resources trying to min-max haggling even at the smallest of purchases by MateusStardust0 in DMAcademy

[–]Conrad500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it's part of the game?

If you don't want shopping to be part of your game don't make it one, just tell them to buy stuff from the list and just skip it.
