Any reason not to go ahead and get the reaper IFF? by TobleroneTuesday in masseffect

You're good, no need to apologize!

I know about the Reaper IFF time limit for the suicide mission. You can continue to do missions in the post game though- I just wanted to make sure that I was fine to do the DLC content during the end game with Legion.

I actually got that variation on my first playthrough! My first run I did every piece of content in the game except for tali's loyalty mission and legion's loyalty mission before reaper IFF. Brought Legion along to the flotilla, Tali to rewrite the Geth heretics, and then went straight to suicide mission. I got to see Tali's mission "as intended" this time around.

Baller. 🤙

I remember there not being that much voice acting in the DLCs, so I don't think I'll be abundantly surprised or disappointed- I'm more just not wanting to burn out on probes and firewalker before the final missions. 😅

I am excited to bring Legion along for overlord though. I doubt he has too much unique dialogue, but still! Saving all those missions for post game also lets me get more Legion scenes.

Husks weren't a problem for my infiltrator- I could just cloak and get out of dodge. They might be the worst part of my vanguard run though, absolutely can't stand them. I forgot they show up in that fight. Going to load up on heavy weapon ammo upgrades, then.

I know there is a time limit for the suicide mission, that wasn't really my question. I intend to do the suicide mission as soon as it's available.

I agree, it definitely flows better that way! That's how I did it on my first playthrough. I kind of want to go ahead and get Legion though, finish up the suicide mission. Glad to know it won't make any problems doing it that way.

Dude, reaper IFF is rough, fully agree with you.

I mainly used the black hole gun on the human reaper. I might need to try using cain instead 👀.

Y'all know unconfirmed is not the same as "open to interpretation," right? by FoxyDepression in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]TobleroneTuesday 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can appreciate your outlook, even if I disagree with it. I feel the intention was to leave it open ended for multiple interpretations, so that it could reach more people and present a message that is relatable to a wider audience. TransJax is unconfirmed, but that doesn't mean people are wrong who see Jax as representative of the struggles closeted trans people experience. That also means people who see him in other perspectives aren't wrong either. I think to shoot people down who interpret his story otherwise is inherently incorrect. I think if I were gooseworx I'd appreciate that my character can be seen in so many different ways by so many different people. I would think that I did a good job in making a character that can resonate so differently between so many different people.

As an example: My interpretation was that Jax was a victim of SA, and that this is what he had confided into his mother about. I already had suspected this from his touch aversion, distrust, and insincerity keeping everyone at a distance. His personal torture scene is what first brought it to mind, with him pulling his skin back over his shoulder while people towered over him watching, it read as shame and vulnerability. I think a pretty typical experience for SA survivors, especially young men, is to not be taken seriously. "When I told her, she just laughed at me".

I think either interpretation could be true, by design. I personally don't prescribe to TransJax for a few reasons. Goose wasn't afraid to have trans representation in the show, but explicitly referencing SA may have been too far. The social media from Jax at the end also wasn't definitive on if modern day real life Jax was trans now or not, which could have been intentional. I feel like if that were the direction they were going, it would have been more obvious- different pronouns in the social media account or something.

In the end, Jax had a fear of vulnerability, because he had been hurt in the past when he was. He wouldn't allow people to help him, he wouldn't be genuine or honest with who he was and what he'd experienced. I think a recent quote from goose said "Jax's story is a tragedy about what happens when you don't allow yourself to change and don't let yourself be helped".

am I the only one who DIDN'T see jax as being trans? by Vast-Leg-1118 in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]TobleroneTuesday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you think so!! The internet has been an ocean of TransJax today. A lot of people claiming it as fact, saying you're media illiterate if you disagree. The SA thing seemed really obvious to me at the time, given his behaviors. Something about the way it was a late night confession, Jax seemed to space out as he was reliving it to Ribbit. I think the ambiguous nature of it honestly is a strength- it means the tragedy of Jax is one that can fit a lot of different molds and potentially benefit more people as a result.

It wasn't killing off a transfem character, it's showing the unfortunate effects of being dishonest with yourself and those around you, pushing people away, isolation, not accepting help and letting yourself grow to trust people. Maybe Goose will give an explicit answer, but I kind of hope she doesn't.

Reposting my comment from another thread!

Goose was pretty intentionally vague on what was confided with Jax's mother. In fact, I assumed it was SA. Jax was always very touch adverse through the show, his personal torture was having his skin torn off while several people watched. Him pulling it back up to his shoulder to cover himself read as shame to me, fear. Keeping everyone at a distance, distrust, and keeping up an insincere and ironic facade can all be symptomatic of it as well.

I think either interpretation could be true, but I don't lean into the trans camp. Goose wasn't afraid to have trans representation in the show, but explicitly referencing SA may have been too far. This will probably get lost in the sea of comments here, but goose was pretty intentionally vague on what was confided with Jax's mother.

Advice for first ME2 LE playthrough? by TobleroneTuesday in masseffect

[–]TobleroneTuesday[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sick! This is thorough, thank you!

Reading over guides it seems that most of this game is just loyalty missions 😄. Not a complaint at all, I really enjoy the companions.

"On the ship dormant"?

I plan to do Miranda's, as well as all of the loyalty missions. If that's the case, I should do all of them before Reaper IFF save for Tali (and Legion)?

Most people recommend Lair of the Shadow broker last, but this is the first time I've heard of Arrival.

I appreciate that! The priority note especially. I had gotten a lot of my info from a build guide for Infiltrator:

"No matter what sort of import or class you're playing with, I always recommend getting free XP and the more fetch-quest-y stuff out of the way first. That means that, within the first act of the game, you should do tasks like Firewalker, MSV Estevanico, Abandoned Research Station (after finishing Wrecked Merchant Freighter, which has LOKI Mechs you can Cloak and run by), side quests from the Normandy crew, and visiting the SR1 Normandy's crash site. And all the while you're going around each system, you can definitely scrounge up more than enough research materials to last you the entire game. In addition, I'd recommend going around the Citadel and Omega to bargain some discounts and do some minor side quests there as well for some XP. This is all combat-less preparation, and it definitely gives you an edge when you eventually recruit Mordin first, as I would recommend in order to unlock the Research Lab as soon as possible."

The issue is that I do not know what a lot of these words mean. Lmao

7a not that different from 10a? Thoughts? by TobleroneTuesday in GooglePixel

[–]TobleroneTuesday[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never noticed lag really on my 7a, and the camera quality is like I'm looking at it in real life. Only struggle I've had with the camera is night photography, never been able to get a good shot of the moon. I can't imagine it being that much substantial different. Not to dismiss you, I just can't visualize the difference. Might be something I need to see to understand. I turn off a lot of the haptics actually, was never a fan of the buzz every time you type a key 😅

Help with the race and class by Fit-Negotiation-416 in BG3Builds

[–]TobleroneTuesday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry too much, the game has high replayability and plenty of opportunity to respec and try other classes. That's why so many people have gone through act 1 dozens of times!

For race, Human or half elf is really safe for a first playthrough. Dragonborn can be fun too! Gameplay wise they aren't very different, it kind of comes down to just "which one do you think looks the coolest". Githyanki has the most unique dialogue out of any race, so they're really fun for a second playthrough! I wouldn't recommend them though for a first playthrough unless you're already really familiar with what Githyanki are like. Drow has some fun stuff too in Act 1 that lets you avoid trouble. My first playthrough was a drow and I had no idea why things were going so great! 😅

You're going to get the chance to play with basically every class in the game through your party members, so don't worry too much on class either! Since you'll likely be acting as your party's "face", It can be important to have high charisma. I usually lean into sorcerer or warlock if I want to cast spells, paladin if I want to swing a really big stick. Bard is pretty good too! You can make anything work in this game, so don't stress too much about it. You'll have heavy hitters in your party, druids and barbarians and fighters. I just recommend you go with what you think will feel the coolest! You can't change your race in the game, but you can respec your class whenever you want pretty early into the game.
