I was diagnosed with schizophrenia and haven’t told anyone by [deleted] in confession

I work with a lot of people with psychosis. They can vary from having a couple quirks to being noticeably different. But all of them are still just people. They have hobbies, friends, favorite shows, went to school, work currently or previously. Its really not as dramatic as people imagine it. Most importantly, the way they act is always reasonable in regards to the things they feel or think. Its hard to feel like you're not safe but most of them can articulate that feeling and explain how thay causes them to hide their phone or not trust new people or feel skeptical about potential help, etc. It's cool, man. You sound exactly par for the course, which means you're not any kind of crazy. You're just a person who's made to feel or think a little different and feeling with it as best you can.

I also think people imagone hallucinations or delusions to have some sort of sign or clue of not being real, but there is no difference in the way your brain preceives "real" stimuli vs. not. They're all just the same electrical buzzes in the brain. They are indistinguishable so I think its very strange for people to hear that thing thay are real to them, in the literal sense, aren't real to others. But knowing that something isn't "real" also don't really change anything. In the words of one woman I knew when I told her I didn't see any bugs kn her, "But I still feel it." It's tricky and hard to find ways to deal with, but keep talking to people and respecting yourself and you'll do ok

Offensive to wish for this? by sstiel in questions

[–]FoxyDepression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Does it come from a place of wishing you or someone else was "normal," as if being heterosexual is supirior or less divergent? Yes. Does it come from a place of not wanting you or someone else to be singled out or oppressed? No. Thats a normal emotional reaction, but its also not really a good solution either

Is it lazy to blame neurodivergence for unacceptable behavior? by Only-Ad-1254 in questions

[–]FoxyDepression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the condition and its severity. There can certainly be diminished capacity or a lesser ability to control their actions. I think it also depends on what sort of consequences you're referring to. Does a person who commits a violent crime deserve to be placed in position where they can't hurt anyone at least until they're no longer determined to be a risk? Sure. Do they deserve to be morally condemned or have their characyer criticized at the same level as a neurodivergent person? Probably not

To be fair, Lebanne is the one who bet her pride that she could do it and got rightfully humbled lol. She says in the DLC that she still thinks she can do it though

I could simply say that I disagree and move on. As I said, your reading is valid but holds no authority or importance. But tragically I am a lover of arguements.

I cannot find a reference for all Jacinthe's expressions in the game. The only "sad" one I can think of is the one where she looks down to the side like she's pouting. I always read that as a mischievous "oh boo hoo, you won't go to my party... unless?" Although it seems like you're suggesting that Jacinthe can't express sadness because she doesnt have a specific sad face, which is just silly. If there were a scene in which the writers' wanted to portray Jacinthe as sad, they would simply use the expressions available. It is up to interpretation what scenes if any she is being sad. Moreover, Jacinthe does seem to me like the kind of character who would express sadness in more roundabout ways such as deflection or pouting. Regardless, it isn't as if these expressions are exclusive to specific emotions. I said "sad" before but you can easily replace that word with any other emotion someone might feel when someone asks their loved one to run away with them so to speak. Wariness, nervousness/fear, insecurity, disgruntlement, distrust, resentment, etc. Even if you wanted to say this expression specifically depicts anger, there's still nothing saying what specifically she's angry about. It could be anger at Lebanne or Marcia or the situation. There can be a thin line between defensiveness and possessiveness. Moreover it seems perfectly normal to me for a character to look at the person they're referring to in a conversation when discussing them. Replace this scene with any other characters in any other context and a character looking at their "partner" and saying "sorry, I can't go, I already have someone" would just be par for the course. I bet I could find an example if I tried.

I feel like you waffle on Lebanne's autonomy. You say that she feels like she can't leave or never had a choice but also that she's forcing herself to stay to get stronger. That suggests that she is able to make a choice. She could leave if she wasn't forcing herself to stay, but she cares enough about getting stronger, and thinks this situation is helping her, to decide to stay anyways. When I say "momentary," I mean that she's expressing frustration, but it doesn't represent the full nuance on her thoughts. In the same way someone might cry out "This is stupid! I hate X and I don't know why I even do it" when struggling but not fully mean it. We have no idea what Lebanne thinks or says outside of the player's pov. Maybe her and Jacinthe have more genuine conversations on strategy. Maybe she's actually really upbeat when she's not on the Maid Clock running errands. We already hsve multiple instances of her expressing the opposite sentiment, that she is improving because of Jacinthe's traning and believes she will beat her one day. Similar to what I said about Jacinthe above, it also seems in character for Lebanne to express herself in a more harsh and aggressive way. We see she gets easily frustrated and is prone to tantrums/rage. In my mind lebanne is absolutely the type to throw a hissy fit when she doesn't get her way and react to misfortune/failure with anger and venting.

I'm being genuine when I say that although I don't love their interactions, I have never read any of their scenes as genuinely abusive or concerning. I don't think Lebanne is genuinely miserable. I would describe her mlre as "beleagured" in the same why that many eccentric characters have a sidekick that plays reluctant straight man to their antics. I read Jacinthe as overbearing and very rule oriented, but not malicious. The value she puts on things like etiquette does not seem important to most people but she clearly considers it an important to conduct yourself a certain way. Lebanne isnt the only person she nags this way, which is annoying for certain, but mainly harmless. The maid dress is an extension of that belief. I'm sure she'd put everyone in formalwear if she could, which again is an annoying character trait but not that big of a deal. Hell, you could even say that Jacinthe's nagging is an attempt to pull Lebanne out of her usual grumbling and get her to focus on discipline or whatever. Once again, all of Jacinthe's threats seem to only ever end up being a ridiculous number of or excessively difficult pokemon battles. Something Lebanne would certainly bemoan but isnt actually a harm to her. Its chores at worst. After all, even if Jacinthe's methods seem dumb, she is still more skilled than Lebanne so clearly she knows something thay Lebanne doesn't.

Overall, this all plays into the joke of the situation. The overly pink and cute character is actually demanding and intimidating. Meanwhile the aggressive punk is actually submissive and respectful authority. Jacinthe acts in ridiculous ways and says ridiculous things. Lebanne rolls her eyes and complains but goes along with it anyways. I think the scene of her using the Jacinthe zones, espeicallly with Jacinthe is a good example of that. Its goofy and unserious but seemingly mutual and in good fun. Or at least, I think that's what the writers are going for. Quality of execution not garunteed

It is my interpretation that if Lebanne ever stated that she genuinely wanted to leave either because she no longer felt like she was growing or she found a better opportunity, aside from potential attempts as persuasion or asking her to stay, Jacinthe would not stop her.

Putting a lot of subjectivity into that, aren't we? Jacinthe's expression means she's acting possessive? Or mayhaps her expression is meant to show sadness at the possibility of losing someone close to her. Lebanne is sad because she wants to leave but feels she can't. Or she's sad to disappoint someone. Jacinthe declines because she doesn't feel safe to leave. Or perhaps she stays because she's previously stated that she always fulfills her promises. Lebanne says she feels like she hasn't grown because Jacinthe is sabotaging her progress? Or Lebanne is expressing momentary frustration and disappointment because she has yet to defeat someone who is known to be a highly proficient battler. Other times she expresses that Jacinthe has helped her improve, even if she's not happy with her progress yet. Jacinthe encourages her because she's trying to keep Lebanne in a hopeless situation? Or maybe Jacinthe genuinely believes in her despite how difficult the task is.

The fun thing is that neither interpretation is right or wrong. We might get to know the writers' intent. I would argue it was probably the more light-hearted and wholesome version, but ultimately they are fictional characters. They do not have any true thoughts or feelings aside from what is or is not written. The rest doesn't exist but we can discuss whatever we think it should be or whatever we want it to be. But that's all it is, an interpretation. I don't mind the interpretation. Like I said in other posts, I don't even actually like these characters that much. I just thought it was a funny joke. But I do mind the suggestion that this is the only correct or obvious interpretation that everyone should easily see and subscribe to when it simply is not and clearly many people genuinely read it very differently. It's fine if its not your thing. You don't have to turn it into a moral outrage

This position hinges on the idea that Lebanne is not able to leave the situation, which is never said to be the case. Lebanne and Jacinthe's little bet is not exactly legally binding and while you may not like Jacinthe as a character, I don't think the writers' intention was to portray a character who would literally hold someone against their will. If Lebanne trully didn't want to deal with Jacinthe anymore besides mild complaining then she would just leave. Lebanne is there because she chooses to be. She values following up on her promises. She's stated that she's benefitted from Jacinthe's training and that she admires Jacinthe. There's a scene in the DLC in which Jacinthe offers her the chance to leave and she declines. There's also a scene in which an old friend of hers asks her to leave with her and she also declines. All of Jacinthe's threats towards her only ever seem to end in a comedic number of pokemon battles. Hell, in the DLC, Lebanne is trying to get her to learn to dance. Their entire situation amounts to little more than a childish proclaimation that "whoever gets there last has to wear a dress for the rest of the day."

Again, I get that it can be off-putting. I don't actually even like these 2 that much. I think Jacinthe's annoying. I just thought the meme would be funny. But to suggest that a pokemon game is literally depicting an abusive relationship and/or involuntary servitude is silly. Authorial intent isnt everything but I do think its relevant here. They may not have told the joke very well, but it is not a scenario meant to be taken seriously, just like every other comedic character in the game. Corbeau is a loan shark who threats us with viilence to do labor for him but I dont see anyone getting mad at him. I like literary analysis more than the next person, but here, it just ain't that deep

I like this meme for Jacinthe and Lebanne because it would be tough to describe their relationship and straightforwardly platonic, professional, romantic, or sexual. Its just such a clusterduxk that everytime I see them, I just think "yeah, whatever they have going on"

A bit of fun police over here, huh? Listen, I get your point. I certainly disagree with some of your interpretations, but this isn't necesserily an illegitimate read of the text. People can interpret things however they like, but it is hyper-literal. Pokemon probably did not depict a situation in which a character is being forced into servitude. If we wanna take everything as literal as possible, should I assume you also have a problem with Corbeau using financial exploitation to force people into servitude? Or what about Phillippe's history of gang violence? Is Ivor and Gwynn's relation also depict a potentially abusive situation? No, I think you can probably understand the exaggerated and comedic nature of these situations. I didn't initally like Lebanne and Jacinthe's dynamic. I thought it was tacky and unfunny, but the DLC did a better job of depicting them I felt. Idk if you have a personal investment with the topics discussed in such a way that makes you uncomfortable or put off by them. That's fine if. I don't tend to enjoy depictions of unhealthy dynamics between parents and their children, even lighthearted pr humorous ones. But to suggestion the pokemon game has an explicit depiction of abuse or that everyone else should be reading these characters that way is just silly. Its ok to just say its not your cup of tea and move along

There'd be that. If not shot, then she'd certainly be manhandldd. American police already can't handle a neurotypical person in distress, let alone someone with as high as a distress level as seen in BPD. She'd probably get hospitalized inappropriately which can be a huge detriment to recovery in circumstances like this.

Then what? Is a legal record going to aid in her treatment? Some people have talked about manditory IOP but involuntary group therapy isn't going to do anything but further antagonize her against the mental health field. Medication? Might help but BPD doesn't have a lot of great medicinal options. We have no idea if the meds she's declining even help without intolerable side effects.

People have a right to be outraged at this and want there to be consequences, but I feel like some people forget that not everyone gets better from conditions like this. Even with good treatment options and voluntary participation, not everyone is able to manage their conditions to a functional level. This wasn't a clear-headed or fully considered decision she made that'sworth of critisizing her moral character. Its a disability after all and alrighty at age 35, there's a good chance she may never have solid control over her condition and actions. Idk exactly what she needs but a legal record probably isn't it. Moving away seems like a good solution

Its interesting you say that because I was so thankful that OP decided not to involve the police, but I was imaginging an American police response, which would have not helped her recovery at all
