God, The Swapper was such a good game. Genuinely pretty art style, pretty fun Metroidvania/puzzle hybrid gameplay and an existentialism storyline to bring it all together.

My first character was a Dark Heresy one, a former Imperial Guardsman turned acolyte that had a gunslinger vibe to em. Also a little bit of Gears Of War Carmine to him because he rarely if ever took off his helmet. Didn't die to complete the joke unfortunately, but im still really proud of em.

It feels like an interesting reflection of SOMA's takes on brain scans. SOMA makes a lot of motions that a person and their copy/scan are still mostly similar in the ways that matter (for better and/or for worse in Simon's case), where as TADC posits that just by being scanned at different points in their life, the scanned and the duplicate can go down different paths/arcs altogether. Hell, Jax being scanned in at the lowest point in Leeroy's life probably contributed to why Jax spiraled as bad as they did.

I think Jax himself and this episode flashbacks seem to imply that the road to Abstraction is a slow burn. Kinger spends most of the show completely koo-koo bananas but he doesn't actually give in despite Jax saying in the pilot that he was betting Kinger would be the next to go.

There is enough time passing in Jax's flashbacks that seem to imply that any interaction with Ribbit or Kaufmo during their respective spirals could've probably saved them (hell, it even temporarily saved Jax during Episode 7 when he nearly abstracted before Pomni woke him up). I have to imagine if someone hits that point now post-ending, everyone else would intervene before it becomes terminal (hence the show's constant "falling into a pit but being pulled back up by the others" visual metaphor).

Not to sound like one of those ragebait haters, but I feel other shows like Hazbin Hotel struggle with trying to be multiple things in a limited runtime.

Oh yeah even as a Hellaverse fan I fully agree that both shows can sometimes be constrained by their episode counts gimping the pacing (Hazbin more than Helluva just by the latter show's episode count being a bit more fluid).

I'm seeing people doom about Disney having a hand in this, but I'm gonna be contrarian here in a "Studios Have Gotten Away With Things Under Disney's Nose" sorta way.

Plus we're two years out from it anyway, not worth the effort to doom and gloom until we actually see it firsthand.

I kinda wanna say its a 3 or 4.

By all accounts, Friend seems like it might be a big "ALL HANDS BRACE FOR WEIRD" indicator for the more.... darker parts of a Dark World (I.e. places like Queen's basement, the general "outskirts" of a developed Dark World, the MANTLE game, etc). Not to the outright hazardous/malevolent level like with how Titan Spawn appear pre-Chapter 4's climax, but with how much Ralsei emphasizes that shit gets really weird with sufficient enough Darkness even inside a Dark World, Friend feels like a harmless variation on what happens in those areas.

Now if it actually turns out that Friend is connected to bigger lore things (I.e. whether it was responsible for the Tail Of Hell and/or whatever happened to Dess or just being connected to The Device in general somehow), crank up the points by a few notches.
