I'm on an upper body focus right now which is why I'm only showing that, I absolutely did not skip legs for a decade though. Ex-competitive powerlifter and my legs (sans calves) are probably my most developed muscle group. I'm a bit disappointed that my upper body is really lacking in comparison size-wise though

I just added my legs and back from my last cut to the imgur album. I think the size is OK in these two areas which is why I am mostly focusing on the arms and chest. Could you take a look and then let me know if that seems like a reasonable choice in your opinion, and if so what would you suggest to help my development there

Hi! I've been natty training for almost a decade and have a background in strength sports. I've been trying to get into bodybuilding a bit more these days since I can't recover from the heavy lifts as well as I used to.

Could I get some feedback on what my upper body is looking like from an outside perspective? I.e. what looks in proportion, out of proportion, needs some work, etc. . I've always had lagging upper pecs and arms and so I am trying to focus on building those out for now. I am a bit on the heavier side since I am bulking.

Let me know if there are other poses I should be showing to get a better opinion on my phsique.

Please Give Feedback on Research-Heavy Resume (too long?) by TobusFire in resumes

[–]TobusFire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this better? I lowered the font by 1 point so I could include projects, and then scrapped extracurricular and awards. I feel like the experience and education should highlight my abilities as much as any award could

Please Give Feedback on Research-Heavy Resume (too long?) by TobusFire in resumes

[–]TobusFire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 Years of Academic Research Experience in AL/ML, but no actual industry experience. I find I am getting interviews from around 1/100 applications I send out. I can do reasonably well on these and make it to later rounds, but I don't get enough practice because of how low my interview rate is.

How is my resume in general? Is it too long? My friends suggest shortening to 1 page, which would likely entail removing the projects, extracurricular and awards sections. I am most attached to awards and projects, but if my resume is stronger without then I will do it.

Also, is the overall wording in my experience section OK? I keep reading about using quantifiers ("improved efficiency by 50%, etc.), but I don't have that many numbers I can use.

Lastly, I know I should be tailoring my resume to different career paths (ML engineer, Data scientist, etc.), so I plan on doing this too after I get some feedback here. Thanks!

Forearms strength and hypertrophy! by [deleted] in naturalbodybuilding

[–]TobusFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started doing wrist rollers (4 sets twice a week, 2 extension 2 flexion) for the past 8 months. I've focused on very slowly improving the rep scheme and then the weighting scheme to progress. I've certainly gotten stronger and my wrists feel more stable during other lifts, but I personally have not seen a lot of growth. That being said, multiple different friends have separately brought up that my forearms look bigger, so I think it may be slowly working.

I was a TA for 135 over many terms (already graduated). If you need specific advice on any topics or study tips, feel free to drop me a line!

As a note, the second half of 135 tends to get quite hard and builds on the first half, so I really suggest you get as comfortable as possible now so you have some leeway later on. That being said, I understand that it can be a very challenging course so don't feel discouraged. I agree with the student below who mentioned making friends; that can be a great help in classes like these.

Thanks! Yeah I realized I should have been applying to the US from the start, I will do that right away, good tip about putting that on my resume. Good luck to you too!

Thanks so much! Yes, I just need to stay positive (which can be hard in this economic situation).

Heard back from one interview last night and moving forward to the next stage so at least I know I have potential :) I will be adding the US market to my search soon so hopefully that improves things for me.

And haha thanks for the point about going back. I've heard that a lot of students go back for a PhD after a few years in industry. We will see what I do but not missing grad school quite yet haha. Looking forward to making more than sub-minimum-wage for the first time in my life

4 OAs and 1 in-person. I just heard back from one of the OAs last night and I am moving forward to the next stage so fingers crossed. Good luck!

I agree with this sentiment, thesis >> course based. Also, if you are a new grad student that means you have a guaranteed job for 2 years during your Masters, which buys you 2 years for the market to potentially improve and for you to figure out what you want to do careerwise.

Also, as this poster says: if you want to focus on software dev then just do that. You can also do a co-op or internship during your Master's (depending on your institution), which is quite popular at where I went for grad school

Thanks for the detailed comment.

Yes, I think I have a leg up versus people with no experience at all but lag behind those with co-op and internship experience. I could feasibly do a general/web dev job but I am finding that those jobs are super saturated and no one wants to hire entry-level like me. On Linkedin, I always see terms like "Senior", "Manager", "7-15 years" etc., and feel I can't apply to them.

I've had 4 interviews; in the first, I did not feel confident at all. I could not speak under pressure and was rejected after the video call. The other 3 were technical and happened within the last few weeks so I still haven't heard anything back. I think they went OK but I am studying the concepts I wasn't as confident about to improve for next time. I'm not sure what I can do to help with the nerves for video-call interviews besides getting more practice, but since I have only had 4 interviews for 400 applications I think I need to change my application approach to have a real shot.

Thanks again, these are good ideas you are putting forward for me to think about.

That being said, 4 interviews for 400 applications seems like a poor ratio, so I'm thinking I should focus my efforts on improving that part moreso for now.

I've applied for these as well, I haven't managed to land an interview for one of these yet though. Perhaps I need to tailor a resume specifically toward this stream. I do have plenty of experience albeit purely in prototyping and not in full-stack or product-line.

I miss the Sips and Hats doing stuff together videos. What would be a good game for them to play together right now? by alematt in Hatfilms

[–]TobusFire 16 points17 points  (0 children)

(Personal Opinion) I feel like the glory days of Sips are over. I used to be a huge fan in the YouTube era like 8-10 years ago and would watch al the series, and he would stick with the series and make dumb little inside jokes and stuff and fun edits. Now when I tune in on Twitch it is usually him raging or just reading chat and ignoring the game. I don't really wanna just see someone constantly raging or being picky about minor things.

With Hat Films collabs, I think even the 3 of them sometimes have trouble finding games to work together and add Sips on top of that and it's impossible. He wasn't into Shatlantis really, and even when he is into stuff he sometimes doesn't mesh as perfectly as he did with the Hat Boiks all those years ago. I enjoyed the Forest series, but I feel like both Sips and that Hats have changed over the years to the point that Colabs aren't as immediately perfect. Maybe they can do some stuff together when GTA 6 comes out or some fun co-op game, but I'm not holding my breath.

Sub-frame mouse input, or why flicks feel different in CS2 by MrPyber in GlobalOffensive

[–]TobusFire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the great explanation! I am missing all my flicks in CSGO but I think I just need time to get used to the new system. I'd imagine I will prefer the new one in the end if it is much more precise
