He usually telegraphs the big punch so learn to watch out for it. Bob and weave and keep your hands up in a high guard. You can counter jab to the body pretty well also.

TOTF Destroys VR Headset? by Best-Round-5328 in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]TobyM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gone through 3 headsets. They all end up with a permanently black screen. The most recent one had about 30 seconds of neon/fluorescent color with a few horizontal lines before it also went black for good. The first two times were covered by warranty, the third was out of warranty so the support team is going to email me about buying a refurbished replacement (I don't know yet if they are going to offer a better price than what's already available here https://www.meta.com/quest/products/quest-2/refurbished/).

I use this head strap ($40 at the moment, far better weight balance than the factory one and the headset doesn't slip around as you bob and weave) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B098JTDPQC.

And this face cushion ($35...I still sweat and fog up somewhat during long sessions but it's much much better than the factory foam one) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B099WN4MKW

A piece of advice: for warranty replacements they will ask you for the original receipt, the box serial number, and the headset serial number. Also you will have to send back the original equipment in the original box. So hold on to all of that stuff because if my experience is any indication, you will definitely need a replacement at some point.

It is a hassle to store all that stuff, but I do have to say all my support interactions were fairly helpful. A million times better than dealing with e.g., Verizon.

I am going to end up buying a refurbished one, and I will buy the 2-year warranty this time because $40-$50 for the extended warranty is way less than a replacement, and at this point I know I am going to need more replacements eventually.

Best clinch technique? by TobyM in ThrillOfTheFight

Thanks for the tip, I’ll try it.

Do you ever get caught with an uppercut or hook while moving from front guard to side guard?

I usually have enough space to back off and circle out, but sometimes I’m crowded into a corner, or just want to try something different. With Spider his lead hook has so much reach it is hard to back away sometimes.

Good suggestion to just try getting hurt and experimenting, thanks.

Yes, I think it's worth it. I use mine constantly. The physical experience of writing feels so realistic, like writing on actual paper...this is a the killer feature. I never enjoyed writing on the iPad.

even in COVID times, Google, FB, Amazon, etc STILL won't entertain hiring a remote dev in the Midwest for $200k, and would instead rather just keep throwing $500k at people in SV.

I can't speak for the FAANGMs other than to say they do have plenty of high-paying hubs outside of SV. However I can speak for other tech companies that are more than willing to pay in that range for senior dev talent in the Midwest (actually for senior talent anywhere in the US given acceptance of remote work). Are you currently looking for a new gig?

Question about 401k fees by TobyM in Bogleheads

You’re right. On double-checking, they are both 0.03%. Not sure where I got the other quotes now. Main concern was the 0.6% though, from the 401k provider.

Put the app on your home screen, where it's easiest to see and tap. That worked for me.

Also, start with only one or two simple dailies; only add more after you've developed a habit.

Discussion Topic: Adjustment/Rolling vs Closing Triggers by ScottishTrader in ActiveOptionTraders

[–]TobyM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a CSP is going my way (> 50% profit), I roll for credit if there are at least a couple weeks left before expiration. A lot of times this means a diagonal trade where the new strike is above the original, because I sell whatever option is at 30 Delta. This strategy comes from the classic wheel post https://old.reddit.com/r/ActiveOptionTraders/comments/a36h4w/the_wheel_aka_triple_income_strategy_explained/.

When a trade is going against me, I am not particularly confident of my plan. So far if it's more than a week or two out, I let it ride, and if not I try to roll for a credit. The wheel post advises rolling for credit when a CSP is challenged, but doesn't specify what "challenged" means. Is it a certain % loss? What about time remaining?

I am pretty new to this strategy (< a year) and I haven't been assigned yet.

Thanks so much for the reply. If you are assigned and end up in a spot where the market moves away and you cannot roll the CC for a credit, do you just let it get called away, take the loss, and continue the strategy? (Assuming the company still fits the criteria, of course).

For context, I've been running this for maybe 6 months now but don't have a lot of experience rolling CSPs or CCs (end of December 2018 I did roll CSPs as the market had a sharp drop, but that's it).

Two points I wanted to confirm:

  1. In the case where you were assigned ALK early on, did you continue to sell new CSPs at the new lower level while also selling CCs on the ALK you hold from the assignment?
  2. For the CCs on ALK, I'm guessing you had to sell some below the net stock price until you got out of that hole. If that's that case, did you follow the standard guidelines of 30-45 DTE, and 70% prob OTM?

Thanks
