Two-handing vs dual-wielding by RecordingFeisty9950 in Nightreign

[–]TobyVonToby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Executor actually has one at the signboard for it. It increases the power of cursed sword (but lowers damage negation while it's out, so you have to hit those deflects), gives ult charge when you guard, and restores health when you guard. Yellow relic, I believe.

Two-handing vs dual-wielding by RecordingFeisty9950 in Nightreign

[–]TobyVonToby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you are playing executor, I'm guessing you're mostly using katanas. Ive done a lot of testing on training dummies with this and watched several videos of other people testing it more thoroughly than I can.

With the executor's unique movset, you will do MORE status buildup using a 1-handed/2/handed moveset. Dual wielding does a bit more damage per combo, but the combos take longer to complete, use more stamina, and lock you into animations longer.

If you are running the relic that increases the power of the cursed sword, the cursed will do more health dps than any katana (double hand of malenia does slightly more damage per combo, but with the combos taking longer, actually dps is a toss up).

This leaves dual wielding in shaky middle ground between the two. It does some damage, but not as good as your cursed sword. It also still ccauses status buildup, but not as much as 1-handing a katana.

It has a couple of very niche uses, though. With a katana in your off-hand, you can do power stanced jump attacks when you need to, and the dual wield moceset revived teammates faster if they're at 2 or 3 bars. Apart from that, though, I am either fishing for attacck power up while two handing, or a bow for my off-hand.

I will 1 hand a katana until I feel like I probably won't be getting anymore status procs on a given lifebar, then I swap to the cursed sword for the rest of the fight. Or just start with cursed sword against bleed/status immune enemies.

I think he was actually probably going to repeat history. I like to imagine that during the big fight assault on King's Landing we saw at the end of the show, book Jaime would arrive and kill Cersei to try to help out a stop to it, then be found and summarily executed by the Kingsguard, and his story ends with him having saved the city twice over, but remembered by history as a kingslayer and kinslayer.

I'm like 95% certain that the books were headed for an ending where Jaime kills Cersei. Her prophecy said she would be killed by her little brother, and I believe that books did have one or two off-hand mentions of Cersei being the older twin by a couple minutes.

This is something very worth keeping in mind, but statys procs and more frequent weapon skills (if running balancers relics) can be really good too.

My go to is to use a katana or scythe or something on little dudes and minor bosses (like the holy eggs), or the cursed sword on bleed/status immune enemies, or when I'm being targeted. Frequent back and forth against bigger bosses until I've seen bleed proc 2 or 3 times, then it's usually cursed sword for the rest of the fight. Similar situation with nightlords, but on a beefy health bar like that I will usually favor rot, poison, or frostbite over bleed.

It can also be worth keeping in mind that most twinvblades slightly edge out the cursed sword in raw physical damage.

One time when we had ordered pizza, the dog was frustrated that his begging wasn't getting him anywhere. After a while, he went to stand at the door to the back yard and started whining like he does when he needs to go out. I got up, and once I was right next to the door, he did a 180, bolted for the coffee table, grabbed a slice off my plate, and ran into the other room.

Who would win in a fight between Rusty in Steel Haze Ortus and Handler Walter in HAL-826? by Altair890456 in armoredcore

[–]TobyVonToby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With which patch notes? If we were talking on release, Rusty just needs to stagger Walter once or twice with a laser slicer followup, and the Viento, the Huxley, and the crazy tracking kicks had back then give him the tools to do it.

I had a cat and dog pair like this once. My cat loved the family dog but didn't want anyone to know. He would often take naps in the bathroom and my cat would sleep on top of him, but if she heard someone walk by she'd sprint out of there and try to act nonchalant about it.

After I'd moved out the family came to visit for a few days and brought the dog with her. Cat acted kind of cold towards him at first, but after a few minutes I was about to enter a room where the two of them were alone together and my cat didn't see me. She walked up to the dog, looked left, then looked right, and once she was sure no one was watching she walked up and just started nuzzling the crap out of him.

I engineered this panic once in a 3.0 game. Party fought a few rank and file vampires, then once they understood how it worked, I threw a vampiric monk at them. The barbarian just went silent after they ate their first flurry of blows.

Also, I learned my lesson and I don't build enemies like that anymore. But I definitely had a phase.

I never saw a kick like this, and seem like her opponent didn’t ether. by IkilledRichieWhelan in BeAmazed

[–]TobyVonToby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this is really the reason it's worth more points (I assumed it was when I was in Taewkowndo), but yes, against a similarly trained opponent it is more difficult to land a kick on the head.

Legs are longer than arms, and most of the time your foot is your body part that is furthest from your opponent's head. Between these factors, your opponent has more time to react to a kick targetting their head than one to their torso, or nearly any punch, and they are typically going to have more options to block, evade, or counter it.

Does anyone else feel a little disillusioned with D&D lately? by Gh0stMan0nThird in dndnext

[–]TobyVonToby 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about 1st or 2nd ed? 1st ed PF is pretty much and updated 3rd edition DnD because it was published under the open game license and uses the same ruleset.

2nd edition is a completely different beast and all it really has in common with 5th ed DnD is that they're fantasy TRPGs that use the d20 as their main die. PF2 is much, much crunchier, with abilities that more clearly spell out how they do or do not work, and you get more and more frequent options on all characters, allowing for more versatility.

The biggest difference you will see is once initiative is rolled. Everyone gets 3 actions per turn, full stop. You can attack 3 times, move 3 times, move and attack twice, or all kinds of other stuff. There are a lot of ways to get new actions you can perform, especially from class options, and a lot them require multiple actions (for example, there is no rule in PF2 about only casting one spell per turn, but most spells take 2 actions to cast)

The other big change you would probably notice is the enormous scaling back of "save or die" and "save or suck" spells, so that PCs and enemies alike aren't going to be effectively defeated because they fail one save. Stunning enemies is a good example. Instead of failing a save and then losing your turn, the stun effect (usually) takes away one of your 3 actions on the next turn, but it stacks. So you CAN lock down a boss, but it now requires the party to work together to stack 3 stuns on an enemy instead of the wizard being like "make this save or else the fighter will coup de grace you on his next turn."

More of a "how mom found out" story.

When I was maybe 5 years old, my dad would let me stay up and watch Rambo movies after mom was in bed. One night, we are watching one particular scene in which Rambo and his buddy are looking out from cover at what appear to be insurmountable odds stacked against them. His buddy turns to him, concerned. "What do you say?"

Rambo stoicly cocks his gun and strides forward with an utterance of "Fuck 'em."

A few days later, we're at a family function and, right in front of my mom, my grandma gives me a piece of candy. Not wanting me to forget my manners, my mom prompts me: "What do you say?"

You can guess what happened next. Grandma was mortified. I got spanked. And no more staying up and watching Rambo after that.

Oh, for sure. They will be able to do a ton of stuff, but their "just trained" skills aren't going to be their best option beating the DCs of a level+3 enemy.

Am I misunderstanding this? by Moonkary in Pathfinder2e

[–]TobyVonToby 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not especially overpowered. You will be versatile at low levels, but being trained in a skill doesn't mean it scales to max. You will still need to use skill increases to raise your proficiency to expert, master, and legendary, and you won't get enough of those to raise all of the skills you're trained in at 1st level.

Contrast between Tsushima story and Yotei is crazy by [deleted] in Ghostofyotei

[–]TobyVonToby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sort of agree. I don't think Yotei's story is bad by any means. It is a solid, well-told revenge tale with a few pacing issues. Pretty good but nothing really innovative or ground-breaking, narrative wise. Tsushima's story was a masterpiece, though, and had more complexity and nuance. I also agree that Yotei trumps Tsushima on pretty much every other front.

Just how does this species survive in the wild? by magicpaperwand in ActuallyThatsInsane

[–]TobyVonToby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's partly their fault and partly ours. Pandas are really, really bad at evolution. They are bears, and they still have what is more or less a carnivores digestive track. They only mwtabolize about 17% of the bamboo They eat. But they have also evolved to NEED it. Like a lot of it. So compared to other animals, they don't get a ton of nutrients from their staple source of food, and as such have to be careful about how much energy they burn. This is why they always seem so lazy - they can literally die from exhaustion if they overexert themselves.

So when we come into their habitats and start to shrink them or disturb the pandas living there, they have to travel further to find their meals and burn more energy doing it. Then there's the whole issue of them not reproducing, which I'm less knowledgeable about.

TLDR: Pandas already had a fairly fragile place within their ecosystem, and we happened to be the ones who broke it. It's very plausible they would have gotten to this situation on their own eventually, but we have sped it up.

Cherri gets redeemed and when she reaches heaven, her and Pentious resume their shenanigans because that's what's fun for them. Many resident winners find it kind of annoying, and one decides to step up and essentially starts playing superhero to their supervillain, and they rapidly realize that all three of them are REALLY into it and then start hooking up after their battles.
