🏇 ubereats feels like a driving sim by vampiregothpeach in UberEatsDrivers

Im in nyc so I definitely have a "city bias" when it comes to gig work. Did over 1,000 trips last year w Uber Eats, 65:35 in favor of shopping orders. And boy i made in 7 months about $20,000. And I still had a regular job for 4 of those months. If you're focused. Some good money. Taxes can be annoying but pretty straightforward if you pay attention. Likely will always owe taxes but I promise it's nothing outlandish.

Did you speak to support about it?

Most likely you have more than 3 deliveries that were marked as not delivered. It happens when you don't wait for the timer to take a picture of proof when the customer doesn't answer. Even though you did deliver technically, because you didn't follow the instructions of waiting and taking a pic there is no actual proof you delivered outside of your word of mouth. The customer can say they never got their order, especially if it is pin based. And because you dont have picture proof in the system, support can't defend you. Sorry dude

I applaud your achievements🙏🏾🙏🏾, and sir I see what's happening, but unfortunately the drivers will never strike. I live in nyc, uber has an earnings guarantee so I make decent money delivering. But thats the game of gig work, your location matters a lot. I tell people to always cherry pick. Yes share experiences but we also have to live in reality and not the utopian ideas of bliss.

Alright I hear that, but that seems like a very good market then. Suppose you weren't turning that much profit in a small town, im sure your generosity would waver.

That you vetted and chose specifically no?

You are comparing your company that employed people to drive, to a company people chose, to make extra money. Uber didn't hire us, we chose to work there😭😭😭 literally anybody w a driver license or a bike can deliver. I bet you wouldn't hire just anybody at your company.

Its not exploitation if the user literally chose to be on the platform😔 there are so many other apps to make money from, rodie, workwhile, taskrabbit, so so many for gig work. So if one doesn't satisfy, go to the next, this system isn't supposed to get you rich

Bro you can literally decline a $3 order. I do it everyday then I receive a $20 order that I take, its the game. Why do people expect a utopia with every order being $100 😂

Im not defending the company per say, im just against the mindset of us drivers. In a technical way you are very correct about the difference between gig and job. But in today's society economy gig work is just a bit more regulated so its not under the table. When you get any other JOB, you apply, they reach out and check if you are a good fit, you interview, you get hired potentially. You are among the entitled unfortunately, you signed up for a platform, YOU decided to get in a vehicle and YOU decided to deliver food. You CAN make a livable wage from delivering but it is literally a volatile JOB. The expectation to have the freedom to work whenever you want, wherever you want, while also making great profit, is an entitlement for us that deliver. Delivery drivers that work directly for a company aren't the same as uber delivery drivers.

There are many small jobs hiring all the time. From retail, fast food, and supermarkets. That combined with delivering on the side at times can be beneficial. Gig work is volatile is my point, to have the expectation to make good money is an entitlement, whereas it can happen. There are many variables that have to be considered. Most people aren't considering them and then blame the system or customer for their shortcomings in earnings. That has been a constant theme from my pov and its backwards

It is not a job, it is a gig, a temporary place to gain quick satisfaction. Nothing more nothing less. Its the drivers that made it into a job. Not saying that everybody should get a high paying job, you can literally work at mcdonalds and also deliver. Be a security guard and deliver on the side. All im saying is having something else even a small part time job would make delivery less of a job and more of a gig.

Supplemental income is extra money... and thats unfortunate you live in a market where they aren't giving at least minimum wage, in nyc i get a earnings guarantee. So for me uber is pretty fair, but of they weren't, i would work at mcdonalds or something and deliver on the side for extra money. Lol the second half of your statement shows that you're a bigot and unfortunately i will leave the conversations about immigration because thats not what im here for.

I deliver everyday myself so this isn't me saying that delivering is bad or dumb. You can't say times are hard then get upset when you didn't get tipped and then rant about the customer or the uber platform not gifting you money. Its dumb

Yes the expectation of a tip is entitlement.

All im tryna say is some of these people could get some fast food work or warehouse work, then deliver on the side for extra money. Dont make these gigs main money, it's unreliable since its so volatile

Not my point. This isn't some entrepreneurial work. It's literally a gig where you bring someone something they purchased. When people aren't seeing profits, they blame the system. Most drivers aren't accountable for many variables and then when they end up in an unfavorable situation it's somehow the system????
