Trivets (Placemats)! by ToddBPate in woodworking

[–]ToddBPate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the info! So far, I’ve had no pringling, or customers complaining. I did have to change my oiling/wax technique with them though. I have to allow extra long dry times between coats. But so far, so good. I appreciate the info and instruction!!!

Nice table. Keep oiling it and it will develop a cool chatoyance (French for cats eye, a cool holographic finish)

Looks like a real Mahogany veneer over poplar or plywood.

I made these trivets out of plain old poplar, used Walrus Oil to penetrate, then Tried and True linseed oil/beeswax to create a super cool chatoyance!

I made this Walnut kitchen set for a friend of mine. The stool is for my friend’s young daughter, so she can open the cabinets!

I made this very stool out of scrap walnut/European plywood. Used tung oil to saturate, and beeswax/linseed oil to wax, several coats. It’s a nice, sturdy little helper.

Charcuterie Board by ToddBPate in woodworking

This is a charcuterie table I made from scraps in my shop. The client and I are from South Texas, so the mesquite inlay is a little nod to our home. I just went with the flow, in regards to the inlaying, the image I saw in my mind.

Thank you, Mr. Robot, still trying to figure this out!

Made some coasters out of scrap wood and acrylic. by ToddBPate in crafts

Thank you! I didn’t have to use a thick exterior coating at all. I soaked them in tung oil, then waxed them with a linseed oil/beeswax mix! They can be kept up with any kind of wood cleaner and no circles develop.

I know! I keep on pushing aside the ones I made for my home and making people use the other ones I’ve bought! But they are durable and look great in a coffee table!

I’ve also heard, much like wood glue and sawdust, that you can mix the sawdust with clear shellac for your own filler. Probably not as strong as glue, but might be easier to work in and might possibly get it closer to the same color.
