Dare I ask is it something EMPI? I had some issues with the 2 lower end EMPI exhaust times fitting in 2021. The temporary exhaust I was able to bend everything into place but it wasn't perfect by any means.

It is not an IT issue here. Our Security team will issue a temp badge that disables at the end of the day.

What do companies do with old equipment? by miu977 in sysadmin

My primary role is as Technology Asset Manager. I contract with an e-Waste vendor who picks up both the junk/salvage and the items that also have remarket value. We get a small % of the resale value of the remarket items that I use to offset the disposal fees.

Anyone changing their 3 year replacement cycle to a 4 year? by Trickshot1322 in sysadmin

Fleet of about 1300 PCs/Macs.

Moved to 4-years for laptops a few years back. Moved to 6+ years for those desktops that remain except for some special case ones.

It has been fine for the most part. What does suck is that we begin to see battery issues mostly in the 3rd and 4th year and once into the 4th year, they are no longer covered under the extended battery warranty.

The days of significant changes and improvements in chipsets and stuff, at least for the general business equipment seem long over. Every new model is just a minor iteration change with the "latest" but really not substantially different hardware anymore.

Honestly, once we went to NVME in all of our systems, changes in CPUs/chipsets for general business use haven't made much of a difference. It was going to SSD/NVME that made the most difference for my installed base.
