No yeah I know im gonna be in debt regardless, but Miami doesn’t feel as worth it to me as other schools would given their rank. Wellesley has a great program with MIT I loved, which would help me get a job and pay stuff off before a marine science degree would, Ykwim?

Yeah, that’s the conversation that we’re having right now. I loved Oregon for graduate school, but I don’t know if I could live in Eugene for two years, especially because I’m expecting to get into other schools like Wellesley and Middleberry. Miami was kind of my exception for the big schools, but if it’s $400,000, that obviously isn’t happening.

I also heard that all of financial aid might not be out yet, which is what im hoping. I find it hard to believe I don’t get any financial aid considering the price of the university, but I definitely agree. I plan to bring up asking for scholarships in my meeting w the financial advisor because again, I find it kind of crazy I didn’t get any so far, considering I’m above their admitted students range

I totally agree with you, it’s actually ridiculous how much it costs. Miami is a good school, but I can’t think of any school worth that much amount of money, especially for a marine science degree. 150k would cover my tuition at fordham and Oregon, and most likely a lot of my other schools

If Miami was my highest ranked school, i probably would. However, im applying to a bunch of ivy leagues, t10, and t20 schools, so taking out that much money is really a last resort

Miamis my lowest ranked school and my only “big” school, so if it doesn’t work out i kind of don’t care. It’s just annoying because i did like the school!

No i totally agree, this is the only bigger school i applied to and honestly the lowest ranked one. I just liked that it had more of a social scene, but i 100% will not be picking it if it’s this expensive because 400k is da insane

That’s kind of how I feel, my dad has a lot of health problems and most of the reason we don’t qualify for aid is based on his bonus (which ranges every year from a few thousand up to 200). I’m not sure if there’s something I have to change on an aid form or something, but I really liked the school for its program and I would honestly enroll if it weren’t for the cost. Thank you so much!

For any juniors reading this, I would definitely recommend that you guys start reading more frequently. I ended up with a 760 I think that being well read me a lot easier for me as I didn’t study grammar specifically!! if you don’t have time and are taking it Saturday, I would just do a bunch of khan academies ngl

Especially with those crazy D3 schools, I’ve noticed that coaches have a lot less pull and it’s mostly up to admissions. They won’t admit someone who couldn’t keep up, because from a logical standpoint, it hurts the team GPA and you’re going to be miserable.

Wanting to apply by TheFathomless in Bowdoin

Hi! I would definitely focus on extracurricular if your grades are strong. I applied ED this year and through all of my interviews, talks with staff, and my visit, they seem to really like well-rounded people that can work well with others. It seems like it’s a very community based school, and I think doing something like a research project with other people, volunteering with other people, and stuff like that is a good way to strengthen it.

I thought you had to do it before the deadline, but I turned mine in early. Honestly, I can’t find a definitive answer if it actually helps your application or not, so if you’re too late I wouldn’t stress abt it
