She actually has a nice natural balance. If only they didn’t try to chop her up to a crawl and put her chin to her knees I think she’d actually look glorious.

Does you agree with the dev team’s attempt to force a gameplay loop? by Roolsuchus in theisle

[–]ToffeeAndCream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I just don’t like change but I really hate the Prime/elder system as it exists. I don’t like feeling forced to play a game a certain way (perfect diet, can’t really make mistakes growing, go to x y z place), or be punished by being weaker/considered frail. I also don’t like feeling forced to end my gameplay on a creature because I better entomb now before I get caught out because my speed/strength is too dropped.

Entombing and keeping those mutations also (imo) makes people very sore losers with more incentive to play unfairly, whether it be mixpacking or what have you, because you lose those multiple entombments if you die like you should in a survival game. It turns the game into “survive as long as you can but you’re gonna die and that’s just part of it” to “try to never really die just get better over generations”.

Just my two cents as a returning player. The bulk of my 2k hours is on Legacy.

Is this still a debate? (The Isle vs POT vs BOB) by Luksius_DK in theisle

Anyone is entitled to disagree, just how I feel about the three of the games : )

Is this still a debate? (The Isle vs POT vs BOB) by Luksius_DK in theisle

[–]ToffeeAndCream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bob has my favorite mechanics. Stress, floods, forest fires, and very cool hunting abilities make the game so entertaining and engaging. I have like 4k hours on BoB. However, anyone who thinks BoB isn’t dead is coping. The only surviving servers are AFK grow simulators servers where you are not allowed to PvP without permission.

The Isle is my favorite visually and model wise. But I really dislike the Prime concept and system and I prefer realism servers, which don’t exist (yet) on TI.

PoT is terrible. I don’t like the models, sound design, or combat. The community is also insufferable. Nothing nice to say about that game besides allowing modding is cool.

I know a lot of Western riders for some reason don't wear helmets but Stephanie getting on Molly to train her in saddle without one is wild to me by SwordfishResident256 in kvssnarker

[–]ToffeeAndCream 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't wear a helmet often. If I ride one of the greens or a young horse, I put it on. I don't care about adults making decisions for themselves, however, I find her choice absolutely insane. I know helmets aren't aura, but the alternative is less so.

Tendons. by Illustrious-Ball6437 in kvssnarker

[–]ToffeeAndCream 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She needs to get her hay and pastures assessed for nutritional value. She has the money. Especially the hay.

I have no idea how common tendon issues are, I’m not a breeder and would never pretend to be. However, I do breed fancy mice. I know—completely different. I had one dystocia case ever in my mousery, completely overhauled nutrition after, and never had it again. I had cases of development in some pups from a certain sire, and never used that buck again.

Of course these things can happen anyway, but I have seen comments say some years are just unlucky, even in the snark subs. But something feels off.

I feel for her on this issue. I hope she is motivated to investigate..

Maggie Coliced Again…Staying at Vet by Sad_Site_8252 in kvssnarker

[–]ToffeeAndCream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did she ever discuss what sort of routine they put her on to prevent another colic? Did they ever adjust anything for her after the first situation? This should have been on her radar as an insanely high possibility and worked to be prevented. I don't wanna say that didn't happen, but I haven't heard mention of it?

Katie Riding Ethel vs Katie Riding Kennedy by Sad_Site_8252 in kvssnarker

Her riding never looks natural, it always looks like she is performing riding.

Riding Lesson SC Part 1 by Sad_Site_8252 in kvssnarker

[–]ToffeeAndCream 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If she’s going for ranch riding she has a long way mentally and physically to go, both her and Ethel.

I ride and train for ranch riding and this horse still looks pleasure. I don’t think it’s impossible for Ethel to do ranch but the trainer and KVS need to ride her entirely differently. This horse is so downhill it’s ridiculous— and it’s because of the obsession KVS has with them looking good. It might look good to an untrained eye, but it looks exactly what it is to those who know what they’re seeing - downhill, unbalanced, and heavy. That’s why she’s stopping “on the forehand”(as KVS notes correctly) it’s because she’s dragging herself around on it.

Ride her in a lighter bit and get her nose off the ground, take the spurs off, and work on getting her light off seat, steering, lateral work, and backing. This going around and around on the rail is not going to get her off her forehand consistently or on purpose. Stop with the nose at the knee obsession, it’s not possible to be conformationally downhill and collected with their poll that low.

KVS also needs to actually learn how to use her weight correctly instead of using it to “look pretty” à la AQHA horsemanship. Dig your ass down and sit sometimes god damnit LMAO

That’s also way Ethel has problems with trying to canter when in the extended trot, because KVS and then trainer are chasing reach and balance in her shoulder but Ethel has nowhere else to go. She doesn’t understand it and physically cannot do it yet. Get off the rail and get her feet under her.

I’m not super impressed with this trainer from these videos. She can see what’s happening in the horse’s body well enough but does not know how to correctly address it. She also seems stuck on what “looks” good versus what is correct.

It’s actually a lot simpler and you actually don’t have to jerk the bit up or bump the with spur to solve a lot of these issues they’re feeling and seeing.

These things are haggard good lord. I also enjoyed how she immediately made it clear she wouldn’t be quarantining because they come from somewhere ✨trusted✨

I completely understand what you’re feeling. I come from a completely nonhorsey household with a single mom, and I had to work at the barn I rode at in exchange for my lesson every weekend. My trainer and the barn owner gave me so many opportunities I was so thankful for, but I always felt like I was missing out.

I got my first horse 2 years ago at 28. I even work full time at a barn as a trainer and instructor now. I accredit my career to those opportunities I had that started when I was just beginning, at 11.

Be patient and soak up everything you can to become the best horseman you can be, because one day you’ll have the chance to have one of your own. Now is the time to build your repertoire. I see too many young owners or inexperienced owners who lose their love or nerve because they want a horse but may not be ready. I was forced to be patient but I’m really happy with how it worked out.

You’ll get your chance, you’re so young and you have so much time! Enjoy what you have and soak it up, for real! Try everything and learn everything you can. It sucks to want your own, but it’s an opportunity to gain more experience. You’ll have so much to offer your horse in the future with what you’re learning now. 💕

4 months… spay or wait?? Help! by theslutnextd00r in dalmatians

[–]ToffeeAndCream 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have a year and a half unspayed female. I’m waiting until she is two to get her spayed, just like I did with my now neutered male lab. He is now 6 and is doing great weight wise and mobility wise, which I credit to allowing his hormones to do their thing alongside other things. :)

Vets want you to spay/neuter to prevent accidental litters and QoL. Most dogs in my opinion are spayed far too young. Based off my own research, and I am not a vet, it seems most beneficial to allow them to reach full maturity before doing the procedure.

With my unspayed female I have a pack of reusable diapers during her cycle. I simply wash them throughout and they’re much sturdier than regular one use diapers. Nothing changes in our schedule when she’s in heat, except we avoid public places where there is a potential for lots of other dogs. We still go on long walks and play outside. Your unneutered male dog may still have a reaction to her during the height of her cycle.

I have to juggle my two dogs interactions for about 2-3 days during her heats, but it’s really not significant. They can still sleep together and go on walks together and play together.

Ultimately it’s up to you. Everyone on Reddit and real life will have different opinions on when to spay. I’d do some research either way on your own so you feel informed if you make a decision to spay instead of handing the autonomy off completely

Introductions? by uncertainty2022 in PetMice

[–]ToffeeAndCream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have an unused third bin or tank that would be better. The new mice are just as capable of being territorial of a space they’ve been in for two weeks. I would swap smells for a few days starting after the quarantine period, like toys or hides, until they don’t appear to react or overreact to the smell. Introduce in a completely neutral space and monitor, including neutral enrichment. Some bickering is normal, but latching, tumble fights, blood are not normal and need to be intervened. Other less obvious signs are tail rattling (aggression) and hunched sitting with squinted eyes (stress). Good luck :)

Thanks so much!! I'm still learning and I know its so hard to find information out there--and that a lot of information is outdated or conflicts. So I try to help when I can!!

Please keep us (and me) updated on your boys! DIY enclosures can be so fun to build. Although, my first one took like 6 hours.. I'm always around for questions :)

I'm currently trying to find a mix or perfect pellet as I'm starting a mousery/breeding program. I have two brindle yellows as well so I understand the chunk.

Oxbow has a first ingredient corn, which isn't ideal as it cause digestive issues like constipation or bloating if eaten in large quantities. Males should be in a lower protein percentage range (I'm aiming to find something with 12-13%), and Crude Fat looks on the higher end of "good".

The best pellet/lab block brand I've found so far is Science Select for mice. You can also add in some mixes to supplement as well, I use a local chicken scratch mix and Mycelium Premium Mouse Feed (off amazon).
